Yeah, been posting since 2003ish. Before the draft. You didn't have to hit me so low.

I still think you overestimate everyone's understanding of CSS. It's not a knock on anyone. Just that we have people grow interest in the draft and prospects every year. Nothing wrong, in my opinion, with providing clarity.
It honestly never occurred to me why there were two separate lists for Euro and NA skaters. It's so obvious when it's said "out loud" though. It wasn't something I thought too hard about, but I appreciate it being casually mentioned. New information is always good even if it wasn't new for "you".

Please no drafting in the first for grit, I don’t want another Tuebert. Even though he was drafted right around where he was expected to. Grit in the first rounds don’t seem to translate well, Tuebert, Griffen Rienhart, Gubranson, Jessman etc etc

As I remember it, Jessiman was more valued for being a big body with soft hands not purely his grit.

I didn't love the Teubert pick at the time, but there is usually a point in the draft where it goes from blue chips to iffy talents earlier than most of us like to acknowledge. Some skill guys who went before Teubert (Wilson/Boedker/Hodgson) and iafter (Boychuk/Colborne) didn't become perennial top 6 forwards either. It might be unfair to cherry pick Erik Karlsson to compare to Teubert. So it's not like there's a full proof model.

A few teams probably would have liked a mulligan for passing on Robyn Regehr in the 1998 1st round for more hypothetical skill players who didn't pan out.

If folks are into the "Grit" players...Don't the Kings still have Dwight King and Jordan Nolan's phone #'s still. I don't think they are doing too much these days.

I honestly do not understand how knowing you online for nearly 20 years is hitting below the belt. I just don't...

But don't worry, you'll know when and if I do insult you. I'm not a subtle man.

Huh? Other people's interpretation of CSS was not the issue. It's a crap disjointed list. The issue I had was that you felt the need to explain CSS to me as though I was five years old.

Maybe that's my fault because in general I assume we're all on the same page so I don't elaborate.

That's because it was a joke. As in, we're getting old knowing and posting each other for so long. My fault for failure to make it more obvious as a joke.

And I explained that I wasn't necessarily trying to talk to you like you were five. You made a point, and I felt like addressing it in case other people didn't quite get the list or the reasons for it.

I also disagree with the notion it's a crap disjointed list. It's disjointed, and for presentation purposes I prefer a master list. I just disagree it's as bad as you think it is.

Is it too late to stop talking about the 2021 draft?

Sorry, derailed my own thread.

Owen Power is putting up decent points and acting as the No 1 defenseman for Canada at the WC.

I'd be shocked if he falls out of the top-2.

Hopefully this draft is the fitting end to this weird little detour. The thing I am having a hard time reading is whether its a bad draft because the favorite to go first is a Bouwmeester type, or if it is more the certainty of that type of player is safer than the mysterious risk of the rest?

Everybody needs a Power. Everybody wants a Beniers. But are they really the "best" players?

I really think this draft is among the biggest crapshoots. Smaller sample sizes due to COVID, a couple missed tournaments (U18s last year and Hlinka Gretzky this year), OHL season cancelling, reduced travel to Europe, etc.

Myself, I will never call a draft a "bad" draft. You can still get NHL players. And frankly, drafting is only half of the equation and only the beginning. 2003 is considered one of the best drafts, the Kings had 3 first-rounders, and their best pick is the hotly debated Dustin Brown. And they wasted years of Boyle's career trying to turn him into a defenseman.

2005 was the "Crosby" draft, and the Kings came away with Kopitar and Quick.

There is less hype in this draft for certain. In part, the leading first overall pick coming into the season, Aatu Räty, had an underwhelming year.

I am very high on Beniers. He may have a lower ceiling, but a higher floor. I'm honestly of mixed feelings with Power. He's not bad, but he doesn't use his size. I like Hughes and Clarke as well. All bring different skills to the table.

My favorite forward is Chaz Lucius. Not a fast skater, but he has solid effort in both ends of the ice, a good sense for the game, and incredible skill. Unfortunately, his season was shortened due to injury.

I think the independent lists really underline the issue with this draft: there's no consensus. Some may feel that means the class is weak. Players just have their warts.

I really like Lucius as well, but weird to see CSB at #12, below Othmann, Coronato, Sillinger and Lambos. But CSB always has a list that does not align closely to draft publications.
From watching Lucius' clips, he can really put the puck in the net. It's like he's one of those players that 'sees lots of net and holes'...not the goalie and 'I have nowhere to shoot' types and puts pucks in nets. Good release, good hands. I'm sick of low octane offense for years now and want players that put pucks in nets...at a high level. Toffoli was the last sniper and that was good the few years that lasted, until he faded here. Kaliyev promises to be a real 30 goal threat...but would love to add Lucius, if the 3 defensemen are not there, when the Kings pick; Power, Hughes, Clarke. (I'm with you on Edvinsson...size and tools and a project)

""Lucius is a high-octane offensive player with exceptional problem-solving skills. A threat with the puck anywhere in the offensive zone, EPRinkside.com 2021
Lucius combines crafty hands with a quick release on his shot to make for a goal-scoring weapon, EPRinkside.com 2021"'

Lucius is going to U of Minn and can let him develop there 2 years, or so.

My run at the LA Kings using the simulator
draftsim
Los Angeles Kings
(11) Sebastian Cossa, G - Huge goale.
(41) Stanislav Svozil, LD - Best LD available.
(48) Aleksi Heimosalmi, RD - Solid 2-way D.
(73) Colton Dach, LW - Kiirby's little bro. Probably won't be there at 73. A lot like his brother. Just not as good.
(93) Josh Doan, C - Shane's kid. Hard nosed.
(103) Vladislav Lukashevich, LD - Potential two-way D
(137) Liam Dower-Nilsson, C - Potentiial depth C
(169) Francesco Arcuri, C - Depth C.

Probably should have switched to wingers late in the draft.

The simulator needs to be updated, as the Kings by default should pick before Calgary and Vancouver. I added it to OP for easy finding though. Here's my draft with it, changing settings for max randomness and team need weight set to 0 (to accommodate team's varying lists):
10: Chaz Lucius, C - I have him high on my list. Arguably my top forward

41: Aidan Hreschuk, LD - Luke Hughes' defensive partner. Incredible player but no hype

48: Jack Peart, LD - defensive stalwart who reads a lot like Mikey Anderson

73: Colton Dach, LW - as mentioned, Kirby Dach's little brother. Big-bodied skill winger

93: Tristan Lennox, G - goaltender depth

103: Liam Gilmartin, LW - gritty forward on the wing

137: Jack Martier, RD - more size on the blueline, though on the right.

169: Ryan St. Louis, LW - Martin St. Louis' son. Can provide a wealth of skill. Committed to Northeastern, where Tyler Madden played.

There is no chance the Kings pick #11. The simulator is not updated.
