Not sure if this has not been discussed, but its the first I saw it today.
From NHL.com
"The Arizona Coyotes will be part of the drawings but forfeited their first-round pick because of violations of the NHL Combine Testing Policy during the 2019-20 season. The Coyotes also had to forfeit their second-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft.
If Arizona wins either lottery drawing, a redraw will be conducted."
So at best we lose, the 1 or 2 spot with AZ winning for a redraw and a second chance.
At worst, we win the 2nd, AZ wins the first and we redraw....
Am I reading this right?
They draw for #1, then they draw for #2.
Its not like the Lafreniere draw where they put logos on the balls, that was a special thing because the first pick was going to one of the play-in losers who all had equal chance.
The way the draw normally works is they put numbers on balls and draw a series of numbers. Each team is given an amount of combinations equal to their lottery odds.
So if they draw the combination 11-6-9-2 they'll look on the list and see which team was assigned that combination, that team wins the first pick. If its AZ, they'll ignore it and draw again.
Then they'll draw for pick 2, if the combination belongs to the team that won the first pick or AZ, they'll ignore it and draw again.
So there's no worst or best case for us regarding AZ, they just don't matter. There's just a 3% chance that they waste Gary's time on each draw.
The draw is probably happening right now, and they'll do the card flip thing to tell us at 4 PM.
