Awesome inside beat reporting from Carp this past week.

Truly impressive

I don't even understand what's going on with Carp. It's his only job (that I'm aware of), why the hell isn't he there reporting? I mean maybe he is and his grand idea is to write a big article in the Athletic afterwards?
If he's the feature writer for the Rangers there we need to get more out of him than we're getting

You want to tell me he had a nice well earned vacation? Fine.

But there’s been enough time to write several articles about Hank and Gilbert at the very least.

Forget the development camp. Two of the greatest Rangers in history and not a line written about them.

Let’s do another mailbag shall we? And not even have answers to any of the questions

Yeah I just don't get it. It's one thing when it's a guy like Gettinger or Rueschhoff who has some skill, and who actually use their size effectively. But when it's just a big dude whose only positive attribute is being big, I don't know. Maybe he'll end up making me look stupid.

I guess it’s better to take the oversized guy who might grow into his body over a smaller undertalented guy like Aaltonen who will almost assuredly never have a chance in this league. Not a fan of the Rempe pick but oh well

We were coached by Dave Quinn and these guys questioned him never. The star players were revolting against DQ right before their eyes, they wrote about it never, cept Brooks after several months when someone probably pointed it out to him.

This Vince guy is talented and ambitious, but does he know hockey? Obviously not at all.

Especially if we're now going to have to start paying the Post $60 per annum if we want to read Larry Brooks... until he retires anyway, which may not be so long in the offing. The Rangers are the only NY sports team I follow... so that would be a little rich for my blood.

Kravtsov is on the list. I’m shocked not much love for Morgan Barron outside of Rangers fans, maybe an Andres Lee type of 6th round pick for the Rangers and type of career.

The guys on that list are all high draft picks and/or have had some early success in the NHL. Barron is a good prospect, but he was a 6th round pick who isn't likely to ever be more than a bottom 6 player. His 1 point in 5 games last year doesn't scream breakout, and he isn't likely to get a ton of minutes this year, barring numerous injuries. And that assumes he even makes the team.

Pretty damn embarrassing how these reporters keep asking the prospects, players and coaches about Tom Wilson every chance they get.

When management spends the off-season gearing up for Wilson, it becomes the central story around the team.

barron's offensive skillset is getting overrated real fast.. there's no way he wins a calder and i don't think there's any harm in putting him in a 4C role due to fear of "stifling his offense" if he's ready for it. he should be playing C though if that's where management wants him, so would rather him be in Hartford than as a 4th line winger.

Hot take: Will Cuylle makes the team out of camp and plays at least a handful of games in New York the first couple weeks.

I could see him getting a taste before going back to the OHL as a "reward" for a good camp, but he's competing for a fourth line spot so it'd almost certainly just be for a cup of coffee and not a season long thing

This is how you ruin a prospect. His offensive upside is there. He has a high end shot with decent speed for his size as well as the IQ. What’s the point even in starting him at 4C? Because you already know he doesn’t have offensive upside? Why not just start Rooney there who has been solid and let Barron be Hartford’s 1C so he can work on his offense more? He’s going to be playing with Reaves half the year if he starts 4C. I never liked Howden but it was common sense to start him in the AHL, but instead we may have stifled his offensive game/confidence by playing 4C, and 4C only with scrubs. Exact same thing with Lias. Barron put up PPG as a rookie playing C down there.

I vehemently disagree here. Barron's offensive upside, while not that of someone like Kravtsov or Kaako, is not that of a future 4th liner. We saw a very similar situation with Howden where people said his skills could translate as a 4th liner while he learned the ropes and his play just stagnated. Barron either needs to be playing 11-13 minutes a night or playing BIG minutes in Hartford. Outside of him, the team's center depth is horrendous so they need to make sure this goes well long-term.
