Have you seen the guys they left out? Wouldn’t be surprised if they finish below CZ and Germany

There are always good players that get cut. Most have another year to go.

The cut I question the most is Connor Zary. I think this guy is cut out to play in the WJHC. The kind of guy that every team needs.

Whoa! Do you know something that I don’t? Why are you talking about a Connor Zary cut?

Yeah, I immediately went to TSN/Hockey Canada sites when I saw that as well. since I couldn't find anything, I figured it was just that bloggers idea. Graeme Clarke in and Zary out. which would be a colossal mistake imo. even if Clarke takes up the 25th roster spot and sitting in the press-box. too many people in this country make too many excuses for poor roster decisions based coach/player relationship.

So ticked at NHL teams for not releasing eligible players. No Lafreniere. No Hughes. We could have had all the best junior players in the world there.

1995 is the only year when everyone was released, and even then Gratton and Witt were encouraged not to participate (and didn't). If the NHL only holds out three players in Lafreniere, Hughes, and Kakko then its pretty good compared to most years. Seider's situation is a little bit different with him opting not to go on his own apparently.

Hughes was reportedly given permission but opted out, putting him in Seider’s category.

Yes I heard that rumour mentioned once but I'll need to find a source before I update the list of missing players for 2021. Wouldn't surprise me if it's true or if New York did the same with Lafreniere.

Julie Robenhymer reported as far back as November 19th that New Jersey had left it up to Hughes. She again tweeted that it was Jack’s call after the Devils started taking fire for the decision.

As crazy as things are, I can't blame players for saying no - especially if your NHL team will take part of the heat.

You're a (newly) rich young man who is looking forward to spending the holidays with your family. Are you really going to give all that up to quarantine for 14 days and be isolated for another 3 weeks to play in a tournament you've already played in? Most would say no.

Interesting, I'll go back and dig it up.

There are definitely times when an eligible player who is playing in the NHL but not thriving doesn't want to go and the team takes the heat. Off the top of my head I recall rumours surrounding Seguin and Horvat in that situation among others. I can understand that more than I can a player like Hughes who doesn't stand to lose money by going and could probably use a little game experience, particularly as he hasn't won the tournament. People are going to make their own decisions though.

Should give some respect to Dach for making himself eligible should the season not conflict with the tournament.

^^ Agree. ^^

I know fans LOVE the WJR's but I bet many players (especially if they are in the NHL) feel it is more trouble than it is worth - especially if they've played in the WJR's and it has a "been there, done that" feel.

With Covid, the "more trouble than it s worth" feeling will be thru the roof.

Does anyone know when the other countries are flying into the bubble and how the quarantine situation works for them?

I am curious, too. How do they ensure one team does not infect another? Can Covid spread thru a hotel if the floors are cut off?

I would assume each team will have their own floors and they won't be able to travel between floors for an extended period of time anyways.
Makes sense. I was wondering about the hotel ventilation but 6 feet is 6 feet. It worked for the NHL so...

What about the staff? I could see this getting expensive if each floor required their own staff/people. No wonder the NHL doesn't want to bubble, again.

My understanding is once they arrive in the Edmonton hotel bubble each player will have to isolate 4-5 days and test negative each day before they are released from their rooms. That’s why there’s no exhibition games until the 20th, they probably will only be on the ice a few days prior. Idk if there’s a quarantine wing for those that test positive or if it’s just safer they stay in the room until they are clear. Each teams is supposed to isolate between now and the 13th, test negative 3x before departing. I don’t think it’s full quarantine in the hotel isolation, perhaps what Canada was trying to do with mixing in practices but we’ll see. The safer a team is now the better their odds getting their players into the bubble and on the ice.

Apologies for misleading everyone. I was responding to an article that was posted with their predicted Team Canada roster. I should have made reference to it instead of just following along in the thread.
