Great to see a guy from the Yukon leading this team.

I've liked Zary a lot this tournament, steady, always know what you're going to get.

Any news on Newhook yet?

Looking at the seeding, should Canada win against Czech Republic the opponent will very likely probably be Sweden or Russia. If either Slovakia or Germany pull off an upset then they will face Canada. Canada can't play USA or Finland in the semi-finals. As always this shouldn't matter, all that remains is to beat whatever team is across from Canada.

Anyone, anywhere, anytime.

Gold Canada Gold!

I think Perfetti needs to be taken off the 1st PP unit myself. Slow decision making is killing a lot of plays before they start.
This is a terrible take. Perfetti is consistently making good decisions with the puck on the PP. I think he could be more aggressive with shooting instead of always looking to set someone up, but he's consistently setting people up and they're failing to convert. That's not his fault.

Byram is killing far more plays on the PP by trying to do everything himself for no reason. I'd replace him with Drysdale, who knows how to pick his spots.

I mean I get you are a Jets fan so probably slightly biased but I just flat out don't agree at all and I am not the only one that thinks he has been an issue on the PP so far.

yeah perfetti really has not been that good. I agree that he was too slow. And its quite clear that byram has settled down and been very effective after being a little too wild the first game or two. You’re still hanging on to an old narrative in a short tournament where things change fast.

Canada's powerplay in general is somewhat concerning. In 2020 and 2018 Canada's powerplay was tremendous and it was a big part of the success that those teams enjoyed. Perfetti holds on to the puck too much but he also isn't the only issue as the passes tend to be off the mark pretty consistently. I'd also take Quinn off the powerplay as it looks like he has the worst hands on the team, though I have liked his hustle and play away from the puck.

Another thing I've noticed that's really surprised me is how physically dominant Byram seems to be at this level. It looks like he has whatever MacKinnon has because players keep bouncing off him every game. I like Drysdale's game better but physically Byram looks like a clear NHLer.

I'm less concerned with the powerplay than most other posters on here. Only the Finnish goaltending kept it at bay yesterday as it got a ton of shots and high quality looks. They also managed to shrink the box and had Finland really backed in. It wasn't as good earlier in the tournament, but we knew all along that it would take time for this team to shake off the rust and gel together, and that has clearly been the case. Not to mention the move from Harley to Drysdale has certainly helped out as well. I can see this team exploding on the PP in their next game.

The power play is hitting at 33%, which is perfectly fine.

I would make a couple tweaks to the personnel of both units, but it’s not a huge deal. Canada doesn’t really have a guy like Gunler to rip a puck top shelf from the half wall, so that hurts a bit. Maybe that will come from McMichael, or Cozens later in the tournament. Wouldn’t mind Tomasino getting some more PP minutes.

Newhook is day to day.

I'm glad that they're using Zary at C on the reimagined line. They tried both him and Krebs at center last game after Newhook went out and I thought it worked better with Zary at C and Krebs on RW.

looks depleted with Newhook out. Next man up I guess. We need to rely more on Quinn and Quinton

The one thing that will bring this team down is it's ineffective PP. That's one area where Dach might've helped a lot. I don't have the stats to back me up, but it seems like last year's with Lafreniere, Addison, and the like was a lot better.

Our PP is awkward but with improved timing, it could take off.
