Another big step forward.

That kind of relentless pressure from all four lines will be hard for any team to match.

Byram and Drysdale can cause all kinds of trouble if the opposition is too busy collapsing down low.

The PP still needs a bit of work, but there were a few with good movement. Not a lot of great shot selection sometimes - shots directly into players, passing up good shooting opportunities for extra passes.

Canada looked really good for most of that game. Better than any other team has looked to this point, which is a good sign. There are still a few things to fix, the powerplay in particular, but overall things look as good as anyone could have hoped at this point. Credit to Tourigny, of whom I've been a critic, and the players for creating and executing what looks like a viable gameplan.

Canada is bound to be a big favourite against Czech Republic. Hopefully the team can get the win and continue improving. Hopefully Newhook will also be ready after a day of rest.

A little off topic but when they play the advertisement for Hockey Canada Merchandise there is a hard rock song playing in the background the only lyrics are "show me." Anyone know what band/song this is?

Cozens has been the best player for Canada. Love his all around game. He is a two-way force and seems to make a bunch of big plays throughout games.

The Byram/Drysdale pairing is just so good for a world junior team too. Those guys have been studs the entire tournament. Great wave after wave attack tonight from the forwards. The team looks to be finding their rhythm.

I definitely can't remember the exact pairings. I know Pietrangelo didn't have a huge impact but Subban and Ellis both played a pretty substantial role.
Yeah, they did. I remember Ellis keeping the puck inside the zone and Eberle tied the game against Russia with 6 seconds left in the 3rd and I went ape shit. I guess all of Canada went ape shit. Lol.

Were any of these guys paired together, though? I honestly can’t remember what the pairings were.

No they didn't play together for any noteworthy amount of time. Ellis didn't play much at even strength - mainly powerplay and blatant offensive situations, and Pietrangelo was third pairing a lot of the time or lower. Subban was the primary defenceman at even strength.

Canada hasn't really had a dominant pairing that I can recall at this tournament since the 2005-2009 gold medals. Phaneuf Weber is the best pairing I've seen at the tournament.

Yes.

In the minutes before that, I told everyone who would listen that I didn't care if Canada lost because we'd won 4 straight. Then Eberle scores and... well... ape s**t.

Phaneuf and Weber was 2005, right? Best World Juniors team ever!

That line has been deadly. Everyone was clicking and playing the proper way. Cozens is just ridiculous right now, Buffalo is lucky to have him.

Pleased with the effort across the board, relentless forecheck which opened the game for our speed and skill to take over. The lads played right way and the right style of Canadian hockey.

Keep vigilant and focused on getting even better for the next game.

I'd go with the only defenceman to ever win tournament MVP honours.

He was called upon to be the best offensive and defensive player on the squad.

Chabot is up there and no Canadian team ever depended on a defenceman more. I'd take Phaneuf and his two dominant tournaments over Chabot and his two tournaments though.
