The one thing that will bring this team down is it's ineffective PP. That's one area where Dach might've helped a lot. I don't have the stats to back me up, but it seems like last year's with Lafreniere, Addison, and the like was a lot better.

Canada's powerplay was at 41% last year, and that's with a full schedule including the tough games. I also remember at least one goal scored seconds after the powerplay ended but before the other player could enter the zone. This team doesn't move the puck nearly as well and lacks Lafreniere/Hayton/Foote consistently posing a threat from the circles. Addison was also great at the point. This team could really use a PP boost.

Regarding Newhook, if he really is day to day I wouldn't be surprised if he sits out tomorrow and then plays in the semi-finals if Canada wins.

When you have a team as deep as Canada does, I really don’t think we do need to put a guy into the lineup that’s struggling with an injury. I’m not even sure Newhook has been better than Zary in the games so far, so I definitely would give him the day off and let him recover a bit longer longer.

2 on the PP... They really had no puck luck on the PP.

Seems like the PP is about to go off for a goal or two. I’d get Perfetti off the top unit his puck movement and decision making have been slow, it’s hampering the top unit. Maybe add Byfield in his place.

Byfield has been coming along nicely, but I don’t think he’s the one you turn to for quick puck movement and decision making.

True, I’ve actually thought the 2nd unit he has been on has been slightly better and he’s been somewhat decent there, maybe even put Drysdale out there for Perfetti and just run a 3-2 power play rather than the 4-1.

I doubt that happens though, it’s definitely time to shake it up a little bit and give some other guys a look. Every single guy on this team plays on the PP with their club team. The first unit in particular the puck movement has been predictable and stagnant. Not enough movement and not enough crisp passing.

The team played really well just the PP is an area to improve if we’re “getting better everyday”. Keep working and improving on our play, I like the way we’re going and I’m pumped for the game tomorrrow.

Drysdale can play the half wall.. that might be a good change

I agree, the risk is greater than the reward. The Czechs winning would be a very big upset, but the semi-final game should be tough. Unless Newhook is fully cleared with no issue at all then let him sit.

Was the Seige of Suomi in the 1st and 2nd as dominant as it felt like the first time?

Defnintely.. just so many near misses they could have had a 6-0 lead easily with a bit of luck.. The smothered them.. Fin would get a pass on the boards there would be a Canada player on him in no time creating a loose puck, followed by another one to pick it up .. and the cycle in the offensive zone was relentless. They would have beaten any team with that attack yesterday

I don’t know, I’d have to disagree. Zary has barely been noticeable at all to me.

The Perfetti-McMichael-Krebs line hasn't really worked out. Three LHS natural centers just seems like too much of the same thing. Going to be a similar situation with Perfetti-Zary-Krebs too but I'm not sure what I would do about it.

PP1 could use a designated shooter, Byram has just been feeding shots into bodies or high and wide.

Zary is very good without the puck, and plays a strong game. I've been impressed with him in a low key kind of way.

Zary has had his moments, but Newhook has been really valuable. The third line on some of those teams was as good as an average jr.A line, and some guys have feasted on them. Virtually all of Newhooks shifts (regardless of his wingers) has been against the opponent's top 3/6. I think the GAA so far is an indication of how effective and valuable he's been. Hope he's able to dress again.

Perfetti and Krebs started slow but have been improving every game to a point that they looked good against Finland. No need to do anything to the lines unless the opponents start hemming them in or scoring against that line. Zary has been good as well. This line shouldn’t lose Canada any games

I kinda wish that Canada used two dmen on the point on the PP. I would think that someone like Barron would shine in that role...maybe even Guhle. Dmen know how to play up high, and are more used to getting shots through, playing together and doing things like walking the line. Most forwards just aren't as comfortable back there.

I don’t know as much about Guhle as I do Barron. Barron was never given the opportunity to run the PP in Halifax often. Only recently once McIsaac moved on and when he plays healthy. It wouldn’t be fair to put him in that position as an experiment at this point. Plus his skating looks a little off right now. He’s not up to speed yet. Guhle looks quick and good with the puck but still not the right time in the tournament to experiment. This team is more than capable of scoring 5 on 5 and shouldn’t rely on winning games via PP. What Canada needs to be sure of is that they have an adequate PK. That’s how this team can lose

Undersized goalie who excels at the WJC - we've seen this before. Do you think Levi can be more than another Godla (who's approaching 26 years btw), and if yes why?
