Good to see levi tested more. looked a little jittery but really settled in. you can tell he models himself after carey price, doesn't over exert himself on any shots, I'm about as confident in him as i was in hofer last year. Not a consistent 60 minutes for the team, but I saw some guys clicking more which was nice. Any team who can score 3 or more on this team should be proud this team canada is maybe the hardest to play against as I've ever seen.

That was far from Canada's best game though it might be good that the team faced some pressure before the empty net goal. Presuming that Canada faces Russia next the team will need to be better. I do think that Canada beats Russia more often than not if each team plays to its best but the team has to go out and play. Establishing the forecheck early and maintaining it throughout is critical. The Canadian defencemen have consistently proven difficult to beat, though two of the pairings are anemic offensively. I guess that as long as they don't make mistakes it's acceptable.

I'm also hoping that Krebs doesn't stay on a line with McMichael and Cozens. Holloway has been fine as the grinder on that line and really the team needs Krebs contributing elsewhere. The Czech game also highlighted the value of Newhook even if he isn't scoring. He's easily one of the best skaters among the forwards and has really good hands. His possession play was missed. It was good to see Tomasino get more minutes as well, he really stands out as more offensively assertive compared to most of the forwards. I have no issue with him getting most of Quinn's minutes.

I know we won but it just feels like something is missing. If Cozens isn't doing it, it just doesn't feel like anything is getting done offensively. Perfetti flubbing the puck alone in front just feels emblematic of this teams offense today. Our defense and Levi seem good but I'm not sure its enough to overcome this against the Russians or Americans

I have to ask, are you Bowen’s publicist?

Man that pairing has been very strong.

I’ve liked our D play across the board for the most part. Harley and Schneider worry me sometimes but even they’ve been steady for the most part and physical on guys around the net. Guhle has been excellent on the second pairing.

Our D play needs to keep getting better and growing as unit, thought our forwards reverted to a bit of the looping flyby stick check again this game like they did against the Slovaks. That’s not how you are demanded to forecheck when you’re wearing the Canadian sweater. Get after the puck carrier with relentless pressure hit them at every single opportunity you have. The speed and skill plays will open up off of that later. Need more of our forecheck like we had during the first two periods against the Finns.

Credit to the Czechs, they played hard and played physical back with us. Glad we got that test, now on to Russia. Need to be relentless and especially get pucks on the forecheck to the Russian D man playing his off side and make them pay when they touch the puck.

Wave after wave in your face physicality for every inch of ice, can’t wait for the next game.

I think Suzuki can give him a run for that ... Let's hope we have a 13th forward meaning Newhook is in

Quinn has looked out of place the whole tournament imo... He has made a couple good defensive plays but his puck management hasn't been good.. and I am not sure if he has won a board battle.

I said after the Germany game that I thought Suzuki had moved up largely off of the work of Mercer and Tomasino. I still feel that way. Today was arguably his worst game but he's generally been ineffective and overplayed IMO.

Either of Quinn or Suzuki works for me both had some awful turnovers at points today.

I think it's a few things. Canada has a lot of very strong complementary forwards but not a lot of line drivers at this level. For example Pelletier has been really good, but he can't be the focal point of a really strong line. Cozens can do it. Dach could have but he's gone. Newhook was the centrepiece of his line but he didn't play last game. Krebs is showing flashes and McMichael always looks dangerous. Byfield isn't showing enough to make it seem like he can drive a line. The rest are guys who make more good plays than bad for the most part but they aren't going to take over a shift.

The defence has been quite sturdy individually but pairing Drysdale and Byram has left the other pairings pretty unthreatening. You'd have hoped that Harley could provide offence but his passing has been off and his shot doesn't get through.

Quinn for 13th Forward please

Quinn hasn't been bad exactly, but it looks like he has the worst hands of all the forwards on the team. He's been fine defensively and his hockey sense seems fine but he struggles to handle the puck.

Well, I think the Byram-Drysdale pairing are the real difference makers on that team aside from maybe Cozens' motor and Levi's calm play between the pipes.

They are both a bit raw but I like their confidence and willingness to make plays even knowing that they could make a mistake or turn the puck over.

There's so much pressure riding on their shoulders but it doesn't cause them to play too cautiously or defer to others. The team relies upon them heavily when the opposition is fortified around the net.

It's also funny how one will occasionally have a rough shift and then the other will pick up the slack - they work well together.

So, my verdict:

It's kind of a TSN tradition.

To be fair, I'm quite confident that the DOUBLE DION followed immediately by Crosby and Perry setting up a Bergeron tap in on Ovechkin/Malkin led Russia was the pinnacle of Pierre's life. It's that or the time he saw Darren Dutchyshen's long stick. I don't think that Ferraro has the same fervor as he has other things going on.
