I don't think a top line of McMichael - Cozens - Quinn is a great idea. Those are likely our 3 best goal-scorers, not sure why they'd all play on the same line.

Perfetti - Byfield - McMichael
Krebs - Cozens - Tomasino
Holloway - Newhook - Pelletier
Mercer - Zary - Quinn

...is what I'd roll with. I think Perfetti - Byfield - McMichael would be dominant.

I'm personally more excited to watch USA VS Russia tonight than Canada VS Germany tomorrow

Glad the world juniors are back. You get some of the most exciting hockey of the year.

Go Canada go.
This was supposed to be Germany’s year. Now they have a mere skeleton crew for two killer matchups and have had almost zero practice time. Man, 2020 came hard for Germany!

I like Mc on the top line, he creates plays, Cozens needs a guy like that IMO.
Maybe something like McMichael - Cozens - Tomasino then. But putting our 3 best goal-scorers on the same line isn't a great move IMO.

McMichael - Cozens - Tomasino
Perfetti - Byfield - Quinn
Holloway - Newhook - Pelletier
Krebs - Zary - Mercer/Suzuki

...is another option to balance out our playmakers/scorers nicely.

With Dach out I think it's a good opportunity to throw all the lines into a blender. Obviously everyone was rusty against Russia but these guys have had a lot of time to practice together and we didn't see much for chemistry. I'd like to see:

Perfetti - McMichael - Pelletier
Zary - Newhook - Tomasino
Holloway - Byfield - Cozens
Quinn - Mercer - Krebs

Line 1: Perfetti/McMichael were the only two to show any chemistry in the first game imo. Give them a buzz saw like Pelletier who can skate and do the dirty work and I think you have a dynamite first line.

Line 2: Thought Newhook's line played well game 1 but I think his talent was a little wasted with Holloway and Pelletier. Give him two high IQ/high skill guys with chemistry and I think you have another great scoring line.

Line 3: Three big boys who can skate and play a heavy game. Has looked like all three were shaking off some rust this camp in the first game (though Byfield was skating and checking well). I think the answer is to simplify things and play a heavy cycle game. I can't see many defensive pairs being able to handle these guys down low and I think they score a lot of dirty goals off the cycle. Could really become a dominant line if things start to click for Byfield/Cozens.

Line 4: Pick your 3 from the remaining guys. Suzuki has impressed me the least so far so he gets the 13th spot but would like to see more from Quinn and Krebs as well.

Disclaimer: I'm fully aware these line combos will never happen (I don't actually expect the Newhook line to get broken up). I also am basing a lot of my analysis on overreactions to one pre-tournament game and some intra-squad action. Nevertheless I still find it fun to propose and discuss.

One change I would make is to put Schneider with Guhle and use them as the shut down pair. Move Barron with Harley. I do not trust Harley defensively and would not hesitate to put Korczak in there. I thought Korczak did well in limited minutes vs Russia.

The top line without Dach is no longer the top line imo .. This squad can improve on Quinn on the LW and there are a number of players that can play RW. I am not a fan of using 3 Right hand shots on one line like we had with Quinn Cozens and Dach.. We have a few Cs playing wing . I would want the option to have a C on his strong side take the draw. Maybe move Suzuki up on that line instead of Dach. I would leave Byfield where he was last game .. I think that line was good .. and brought energy. I think Byfield uses his raw physical tools more than his brain at this point in his development. Not trying to be critical. Last game the energy line style suited him . If we want Cozens as the #1C and "the guy" we need to give him 2 high end players on the wing. I think we do that and we rob from peter to pay paul.

I liked all the lines last game and would keep the changes to a minimum personally.

EDIT: Welp ..I guess they don't listen to me lol

hmmm I like that shutdown line. McMichael line unchanged :thumbu:. I think Byfield will miss Zary.

What is this based on, I didn't think they were on the ice yesterday or today.

Holloway - Newhook - Cozens should be a great line.

Although I don't see why Tomasino is being scratched.

Edit: I was looking at the wrong set of lines, ignore that last line.

Quinn-Byfield-Pelletier could be an interesting line that could dominate.
