it sure looks like the coaching staff wanted cozens and mcmichael both playing centre moving them on same line prevents that. also i'm not sure quinn and cozens are any better then perfetti and krebs. why should they break up that line it played good. they should just replace dach with tomasino.

They aren’t going to promote the Perfetti line from 3rd to 2nd after removing McMichael and replacing him with Tomasino

Yeah, I thought Holloway-Newhook-Pelletier did a good job shutting down the top Russian line. Pelletier in particular had a strong game.

They were creating havoc out there. I just re-watched the game, I don’t see that line being demoted from their role as a “shutdown” line against other teams best lines. They had several good scoring chances and hemmed the Podkolzin line in routinely.

Terrible.

what a freak accident. I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen a play like that resulting in a break. Or many wrist fractures.

wish him all the best
Shit Bad Fn Luck. I think Canada has the depth for the tournament.. Could make a difference in a gold medal game if we get there but I just think its terrible for Dach personally .. the decision, the quarantine, the waiting, being named Captain , finally getting in a game to play for his country in the best best on best tournament and a freak injury ends it all

Dach is a personal favourite of mine. I really feel for the guy especially after such a freak injury. High end athletes want to play on the big stage, get well soon.

Well said.

I think you need to remake the lineup a bit. With Dach out I think you have to gamble on Byfield. At least put him on the 3rd line, I don't think Quinn-Cozens is strong enough of a pairing without Dach either. I'm thinking

Perfetti-McMichael-Cozens
Holloway-Newhook-Pelletier
Krebs-Byfield-Quinn
Zary-Mercer-Tomasino/Suzuki
Suzuki/Tomasino

Then I think you roll 4 lines and allocate playing time to whoever is playing the best. Zary and Krebs could also play C but I didn't want a RHS on the left wing. It's a tough break but this team is still very deep.

f*** everything about the Dach injury. Of course it happens to Team Canada. Of course it happens to the best player in the tournament. Of course it happens to the guy who most desperately wanted to play. f*** it all.

Anyhow, I hope we see:

McMichael-Cozens-Quinn
Holloway-Newhook-Pelletier
Perfetti-Byfield-Tomasino
Zary-Krebs-Mercer
Suzuki

Byram-Drysdale
Harley-Schneider
Guhle-Barron
Spence

Wasnt Newhook-Krebs-Cozens dominant at u18? Why not just try that again?
That’s an interesting idea, although Newhook is developing into a two-way beast up the middle and I’m hesitant to touch the potentially fantastic shut-down group of Holloway-Newhook-Pelletier.

Potentially:

Newhook-Krebs-Cozens
Quinn-McMichael-Tomasino
Perfetti-Byfield-Mercer
Holloway-Suzuki-Pelletier
Zary

Cozens needs to be shoved down the lineup, he looked lost out there.

Try Byfield at first line center, he was hustling around the ice.

This is what I think we’ll see:

McMichael - Cozens - Quinn
Perfetti - Krebs - Tomasino
Holloway - Newhook - Pelletier
Zary - Byfield - Mercer
Suzuki

I like that. Plus with Dach out, all the more reason to roll the lines at even strength. Each of those four lines could get all over the other team in a hurry, and honestly pressure and the forecheck was the best part of Canada's game against Russia.

Someone is also going to have to move in front of the net on the powerplay with Dach out. I'd put Cozens back there, as he did a good job in that role in 2020. The other option I guess is to put Byfield up in that spot, though that leaves a hole on the second unit and puts three of Canada's centres on the same powerplay, which isn't ideal for the shift after the powerplay.

You are specifically saying he broke something. You have absolutely no idea if he broke a finger, wrist, thumb or sprained something. Or they could come out and say he is okay and you would look like a whole ass for coming on this strong about this for well...literally no reason lol.
Am I allowed to say it looked like he obviously broke something now?

Time for Byfield and others to step up. Cozens doesn't look to have the hands or vision to be much of a puck handler...he seems to be more of a power forward or elite grinder. I don't think he can replace Dach.

In general, while Canada looks very fast and strong, I don't think they have figured out who their scorers are yet. Seems that they are going to try and do it by committee. USA aren't as deep, but with them, you know that Kaliyev and Caufield are going to be putting the puck in the net.

I can see Canada dominating a game, but losing because they have figured that out.

BTW, did anyone else notice that bit of play in the O zone by Schneider? Not bad for a guy who is supposed to be offensively challenged.

Sucks losing Dach. Thats the second year in a row our best player and captain was injured although this time there will be no happy ending. I don't know I just have a horrible feeling that by losing Dach we are handing gold to the Americans hopefully Im wrong.

Tomasino should not be a healthy scatch , I hope they find a way to get him into the lineup and show what he can do

I remember losing Määttä in a first game in a tournament I think, not having Barkov and Finland won gold in 2014

I know it hurts for you to lose Dach but you still have the best team in the tournament. You'll be fine.
