Just re watched the game again. Byram is so bad in his own zone. He got beat wide multiple times on plays he shouldn't have, they need to separate drysdale and him to give them both more freedom.

Sucks about Dach but to be honest he didn't impress me as much as I was expecting him but I think my expectations were way too high. I thought he was going to be a man amongst boys. Hope he is okay.

Hope Dach is good for the tourney. sucks if he's out! but we shall soldier on in any case.

Byfield showed some promise. He'll really need to amp it up if we lose the Captain.

looking forward to tomorrow's triple header of WJHC action.

Merry Christmas Eve, folks.

Thank you... and Laf set it up.

Who knows, maybe Dach will be okay. I'd feel awful for the guy if he was done.

FTR.. I can't stand Hayton.lol

Hayton had one of my favourite ever troll/villain performances ever at the WJC last year.

Also according to my many medical degrees and extensive career in medicine, Hayton definitely hurt himself last night. You heard it here folks, what can I say.

His first competitive game in 9 months. He got beaten twice, so yes, he should do better and he himself will probably be the first to acknowledge this. But he isn't "so bad" in his own zone, that's just an absurdly poor take. Last year at the WJC he did fantastic being Canada's all situation D, he was pretty damn good in the WHL defensively as well. He might not be prime Langway or Vlasic in his own zone, but he is to top-end defender. He reminds me so much of Duncan Keith, a guy who is dynamic offensively, pretty damn good defensively, but just like Keith wasn't the go-to shutdown guy on the Hawks, Bo won't be one either.

If Dach is out, I would swap Mercer into the role Newhook is playing with Holloway and Pelletier. Play Newhook and Cozens together, they seemed to have some chemistry together at the U18s a couple of years ago (Krebs seemed to have some chemistry with those two as well).

It was awesome to see Canada beat a good team in the pre-tournament.

Unfortunately we have to watch them play a couple of lesser teams until they get to the qualifying rounds.

Oh well, real world problems...... :xtree:

Playing some "lesser" teams to start the tournament is probably a good thing at this point. You could see the rust last night, and if Dach is out, new lines will need time to get as well.

The schedule is very favourable to Canada this year. The more time to let the team gel and shake off some rust before the big games the better. Playing a threatening team like Russia last night was also ideal though as the result didn't matter.

Seider is hands down the best defenseman of his draft... I would also break up that top pairing... Byram Schneider and Guhle Drysdale..

I liked the chemistry with McMichael+Perfetti they had most of the play in the offensive zone. Perfetti was 100% on his offensive zone entries. Doing that against a good Russian D. This would be a good chance to to tweak the lines with Dach looking like he will miss some games and maybe plenty longer. Any updates on his status?
Perfetti looks like he is going to have a good WJC. The kid doesn't do anything but produce goals and chances for his teammates. Perfetti-McMichael-? we need someone to play with these 2 who can bury the puck and play good D. This as a 3rd line should destroy most teams bottom 6. The same with Byfield's line.
Loved Levi's game l have never seen him play before but he is very impressive so far, keep it up and it makes us stronger.

No single player is going to replace Dach imo... I'd keep Mercer , Zary, Byfield together. They looked good and created havoc on the forecheck. I would move Suzuki (playmaker) or Tomasino (speed) into Dach's spot and role 4 lines .. The PP will need to be adjusted but .. He was net front on PP1.. Byfield can move there and we need to replace Byfield (net front) PP2.

Leave 3 lines the way they were.. and tinker through the round robin as needed.

I agree Perfetti looks poised to excel here. I think Krebs will be fine there. I don't think we should be disrupting all the lines at this point

Hands down is a complete stretch but it's definitely a possibility he ends up as the most valuable defenceman in the draft. Byram still has more game breaking talent he does things in the offensive zone Sieder just can't do. Sieder looks like the much better defender he's just so hard to play against.

In hindsight I wish the Avs had drafted Sieder tbh even though Byram has a "higher" ceiling. He would just compliment what the Avs already have so well and he's much more ready to step in to the NHL than Byram is.

True enough, we have the round robin and that should give us enough time to have our game plan and lines where we want them.

That's quite unfortunate for Dach. The guy came when he didn't have to, sat through an extended quarantine when he could have been training for the NHL season, then picks up an injury before the tournament even starts. Hard to think of a WJC player who had worse luck.

Obviously it's a negative for Canada as Dach was very likely one of the best players in the tournament. Tomasino is a luxury to pull in out of the press box though and there are lots of options. Someone is going to need to step up and fill the offensive hole left by Dach, but again there are plenty of potential options. Whether someone does it is the big question. This is a big opportunity for players like Newhook, Byfield, and McMichael though.
