Feel bad for Dach, and the loss definitely hurts, but it says a lot about our team that we're still the favourites.
There's a definite step down between Dach and the guys who were scratched last night. That said, our "extra" forwards would be stars on the majority of the other teams in this tourney. Our depth up front is ridiculous, and whoever replaces him will be fine.

Maybe we just replace the lost C by adding another alternate?

It will be interesting. It is not as if you have a Captain that will return for some point. Do you play an entire tournament with no named captain and just alternates? Dach will no longer be present, even in the locker room (assuming that he is leaving due to injury).

Going with 3 “A’s” makes some sense. Maybe they give they give the “C” to Cozens or Byram though and name a new “A”.

I’m assuming Dach will be going to Chicago if he hasn’t already left though to have their Dr.‘s involved to look at him.

Tough loss all around, but such is the nature of contact sports. People get hurt sometimes, hoping he has a speedy and full recovery.

It’s a really interesting question, which is why I “liked” it. Is it as simple as next man up, or is Dach the Captain of that group no matter?

Hayton had one of my favourite ever troll/villain performances ever at the WJC last year.

Also according to my many medical degrees and extensive career in medicine, Hayton definitely hurt himself last night. You heard it here folks, what can I say.
That really needs to be a seperate post on HF... 'favourite troll/villain performances ever'

Comtois, Hayton, Wahlstrom ...

Dach won’t be there anymore, I think it’d be smart to name another captain, he was only named captain for a few days it’s not like they are stripping him after a long term captaincy, hope he recovers well for the upcoming nhl season.

That is truly awful. Guy was dying to represent his country, could've easily skipped the tourney and gone to Hawk's camp. Gets hurt on a complete nothing play and is now missing the tourney and NHL time. He spent so much time in quarantine and stuff and lasted 2 periods. Really feel for him. I've even forgiven him for running amock all over the Oil in the play in.lol

Makes sense, providing he’s leaving. I’d go with Cozens.

His first competitive game in 9 months. He got beaten twice, so yes, he should do better and he himself will probably be the first to acknowledge this. But he isn't "so bad" in his own zone, that's just an absurdly poor take. Last year at the WJC he did fantastic being Canada's all situation D, he was pretty damn good in the WHL defensively as well. He might not be prime Langway or Vlasic in his own zone, but he is to top-end defender. He reminds me so much of Duncan Keith, a guy who is dynamic offensively, pretty damn good defensively, but just like Keith wasn't the go-to shutdown guy on the Hawks, Bo won't be one either.
Really...last year he was attrocious in his own end. I thought he played good last night but don't try to hide the fact he was not good last year.

Wasn't he not on the ice for a single goal against all tournament? Or maybe 1? Can't remember. He was heavily relied upon in the gold medal game in Canada's own end so he was obviously doing something right.

Since they can't replace Dach on the roster anyway I wouldn't be surprised if he remains the captain. Nice little rallying point for the players. McMichael gets an A or something if the IIHF allows that.

I’m sure they don’t want to do anything to take away his honor but I think it makes more sense if he was sticking around. I just can’t see him staying in the bubble. But they don’t need to literally give the C to someone else to move forward with the captaincy so wouldn’t shock me if nothing changes.

I certainly expect that he's leaving Edmonton. The man has suffered enough. I don't really think that Dach or anyone else being the captain will make any difference but I wouldn't be surprised if Hockey Canada leaves it as is since there won't be a replacement player. Either way Hockey Canada and TSN are going to have a field day talking this up as winning the tournament for Dach.

So what are people's thoughts on new line combos? Who's moving up?
I could see some combo of Krebs, McMichael and Cozens on the top line. I’m sure Tomasino will get worked in there somewhere, score a big goal so we’ll hear how he was a healthy scratch in exhibition to start.

Me as well. Cozens would be my pick if Dach is leaving to Chicago.

Feel terrible for the guy, I’m a big fan of his game. He was my favourite player from the 2019 draft. Guy came here wanting to represent his country in his home City (Fort Saskatchewan is a few minutes north of Edmonton).

He’ll be fine long term, wrist/hand injuries generally don’t have a long term impact on players if treated properly. Get well Kirby, your entire country loves you.

Will be interesting to see how this effects the lines. Maybe mcmichael back on line1?
