I'm stoked that they are playing good teams (Sweden & Russia) to start off the Pre-Tournament. It's false hope when they beat teams like Kazakhstan 10-0

It's been his game forever.. he will end up on wing at the NHL level and be better for it. You don't want him to be the primary puck distributor on his line and he loves to go to the boards instead of attacking open ice

Cozens is a centre. He’s got underrated playmaking and good two-way ability. Not to mention the size that teams covet at the centre ice position.

I just don’t agree with that assessment of his game. This guy makes things happen all over the ice and is a fantastic distributor. Nor do I agree that he has a shoot-first mentality.

Based on fuggin’ WHAT.

A D+1 college season replicated or bested by dozens of players who became nothing?

He’s a really good player. He’s also terribly overrated.
Based on experts evaluations of his play and watching him play. Don't forget he got 9 assists setting up players who should not have been on his line. I wouldn't be surprised if Dach turns out to be the best player in that draft though. I wish I had taken him over Kakko in my pool. I am high on Newhook too.

As a Hawks fan I'm starting to worry all the Dach praise is going to jinx him. With the talent on the Canadian Team - some players are going to play great and still get overshadowed.

It's actually not uncommon for the guys who played in the NHL to get sent down and struggle. You're coming from this hyper organized game, to a more chaotic and less structured environment where pond hockey typically reigns.

One thing you can set your watch by is the average fan massively overvalues a players performance on the World junior stage for better or worse. The WJC’s are a major anchoring event for prospect evaluations because most fans don’t watch many of these kids games during the season so this is a big viewership window. I am not meaning to point fingers here because I am guilty of it too.

Honestly when it comes to Dach As a Jets fan I saw him enough last season live and on TV to be really jealous. Kids a beauty.

I'd expect Dach to look really good but not blow away tournament scoring. It's a deep Canadian team and presumably Tourigny will roll the lines a fair bit at even strength. People are making a comparison to Bergeron in 2005 and there are some potential similarities given their experience. Dach's rookie year wasn't as good as Bergeron's but he also has some physical tools that might give him an extra advantage against juniors. Bergeron led the 2005 tournament in scoring (basically playing in cruise control) but he probably could have put up several more points if Getzlaf's and Richards' lines weren't getting heavy minutes as well. I could see Dach doing something similar.

Dach though is particularly well suited for pond hockey. Not sure I’ve ever seen a kid that big with hands like his.

I have. His name was Mario. Would have seen him play more live but he was almost always under load management when he came out to western Canada and never played but when he played he was unstoppable.

Unfortunately, I’m a young buck and never got to see prime Mario. I can only imagine how much fun that was to watch.

Anyone know the projected 1st PP Unit?
It's anyone's guess, really. My sense of things is that you'll see Cozens, Dach and McMichael with one other forward (Quinn perhaps?) as Canada likes the 4 forward set. Lots of options for that fourth guy. Byram would be running the point. They do have TWO good offensive point men so maybe we'll see Byram and Drysdale together, though I think it make sense to hold one of them back for the second unit.

With so much depth on this roster, don't expect the first unit to get significantly higher minutes than the second unit like you might see with some other countries.

This is pure speculation, of course.
