NJ has recalled Comet Reilly Walsh. Joins the team in Ottawa for tonight's game.

Might as well take all of 'em. The Comets can't finish any higher or lower than where they currently are, the #1 team in the North Division and the #1 team in the Eastern Conference. Home ice advantage until the Calder Cup Finals (should they ever get that far).

The Devils finish their regualr season at home on Friday. The stand-in Comets will be in Rochester. The Comets travel from Rochester for a Saturday season finale in Providence. All the guys in NJ could easily meet them in pPovidence, but since there is little to gain I expect the team will reunite in Utica on Monday to begin preparations for the playoffs. The 2021-22 AHL playoff schedule has yet to be released.

Cangi said maybe Holtz will get a call up in the post-game.

Reilly Walsh is a non-emergency recall, along with Bahl, Okhotiuk, and Daws.

Another F will have to contract a non-Covid illness or an injury from tonight's game for that to happen.

Either of those misfortunes could easily occur. Wink! Wink!

my best bet is we will see Belleville and Toronto in an AHL battle of Ontario in the North Division play-in series
The Monsters definitely played spoilers by sweeping the Amerks in the two games over the weekend.

I love how that team 1 hour west on the thruway from Utica was wallowing in the lower recesses of the North Division throughout the 1st 2/3 of the season is now looking like they will finish the regular season as the runner up to the Comets. Tampa Bay always seems to have a way to make sure their farm finishes with a fighting chance come playoff time.

Have to believe they are licking their chops to get another crack at the Comets in the playoffs. Utica dominated their season series finishing 11-1-2 in the 14 games they played against one another. Both would have to win their semi-final series in order to see one another in the North Division Finals. It's become one Hell of a rivalry over the past 9 seasons and these 2 teams do not like each other and it doesn't seem to matter how new the lineups are. They have a storied history derived from the fact that they usually play each other more than any other team in the Division every season. Newcomers get a taste of the animosity very quickly and it just keeps passing on from one season to the next. The fan bases do their best to keep it going and continuously feed the fire.

They definitely raised their hackles late in the season. Teams beat them but took a beating physically in return. They never went quietly. They beat the Comets once and took them to the wire in the 2nd in which the Comets may have put together their best all around game in months in a back-to-back set last week.

I really don't understand why Rochester hasn't locked up a playoff spot. On paper they have a very good team. The defense is suspect but they have so many weapons on offense plus good goaltending. I'm very surprised that they have under achieved so badly. They could still make it but they have to beat a Comets team on Friday that should be full of ECHL players in what is a meaningless game for Utica. Then Toronto needs to help them by losing two of their final three.

If Rochester does get in they will see reinforcements arrive from Buffalo as they did paper down Krebs, Samuelsson and Fitzgerald. Krebs will give them even more firepower up front but the two additions on defense may be even more important.

The only thing Utica has left to play for is a better % than Ontario for home ice should the two meet in the Final. Ontario would have to lose their last game in regulation @ Henderson, who is locked into their seed and will also probably be playing ECHLers and resting their better players, and the Comets would have to win out their last two remaining games.

The Comets need four points to have the third best AHL record in NJD organizational history.

Chicago has a chance to sweep the statistics based individual player awards.

The Wolves have the Harry "Hap" Holmes Memorial Award locked up for Alex Lyon.

Chicago's Stefan Noesen has five more goals than Ontario's Martin Frk for the Willie Marshall Award. Both teams have one game remaining.

Last year's Les Cunnigham Award winner with Colorado, Ontario's T. J. Tynan is one point ahead of Chicago's Andrew Potulralski, last year's John B. Sollenberger Trophy winner with San Diego for the Sollenberger for most regular season points. Ontario has one game remaining. Chicago has two games remaining.

The vote based awards are more subjective and a little harder to predict.

The Dudley (Red) Garrett Award for rookie of the year could got to Rochester's J. J. Peterka who has two more points than Stockton's Jakob Pelletier. Rochester's Jack Quinn leads Tucson's Matias Maccelli in Pts/G 1.34 to 1.22. Stockton's Dustin Wolf leads rookies in the league in GAA and SV%. Rochester and Stockton both have one game remaining.

Colorado's D Jordan Gross leads the AHL in points for the Eddie Shore Award.

2019-20's Harry (Hap) Holmes co-winner and Yanick Dupre Memorial Award winner with Milwaukee, Troy Grosenick, leads the league in GAA and SV% with Providence for the Aldege (Baz) Bastien Award.

The Louis A.R. Pieri Memorial Award for best coach probably goes to Stockton's rookie coach Mitch Love, although Chicago's Ryan Warsofsky (David's brother) could win if the Wolves win the Macgregor Kilpatrick Trophy for best regular season record. Chicago has two games remaining. Stockton has one game remaining. The Heat will clinch with a win over Bakersfield.

The Les Cunnigham Award for regular season MVP could go to T.J. Tynan even if Andrew Poturalski catches him for the Sollenberger. Tynan leads Poturalski 1.61 to 1.41 in Pt/G. Dustin Wolf leads all G in wins and games played as a rookie.

The Fred T. Hunt Memorial Award for sportsmanship, determination, and dedication to hockey could go to Bakersfield's Adam Cracknell, Bridgeport's Cory Schneider, or San Jose's Alex Stalock.

I don't have any idea who is in the running for the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award for community involvement at the moment.

Presumably Utica will have all its players returned from NJ this weekend. With all the NJ callups as injuries have taken their toll in NJ it's hard to know what a full force Utica lineup might be capable of at this point. I will say that Bahl and Zetterlund have done well this callup and probably look better as a result when they return. Schmid has apparently lost some confidence after his NHL flop but Daws should probably feel good about his game and he was missing for a good chunk of the season from Utica who had Mitens as the alternative. Losing Schnarr hurts but maybe one of the other young players can show some additional offense (I'm looking at you Talvitie...)

This is disappointing. They just picked the one guy who stood out in terms of points per game and picked the other two guys with the most points. Holtz was ahead of both Pelletier and Peterka in terms of points per game.

Reichel is still ahead of Holtz. He might have a better argument. Those other two guys played over 60 games.

But that's very lawyerly of you to use points per game both for and against the selection.

Points per game was my point. I wasn’t using it against the selection so much as pointing out that the voters used it selectively themselves. Quinn played less games but had his points per game but magically the other two guys are gross games and points? This was a scam orchestrated by someone who hates lingonberries and kotbuller.

Well that award is likely all that those two Rochester Amerk players will have this season because it looks like they’re going to be 1 of 2 teams (out of 7) to not make the playoffs in our division.

Toronto just beat Laval tonight. So Rochester is out of luck unless they win their last game while Toronto loses both their last two games.

Yeah Reichel is ahead of Holtz in Pt/G. Matias Maceelli too on another team that will miss the playoffs.

Holtz did it with a playoffs team.

Still more than Holtz will get, so I don't get it? Harder to do on a non-playoffs team, no?

If the Marlies beat Laval again tomorrow night Rochester is done.

Holtz gets to go to the playoffs and they don’t? Literally almost every gets to go except them.

Not making it when 11 teams in your conference make it and 4 teams don’t is something I enjoy mocking in a gentle good natured way. (More so when it’s the Rangers & Flyers affiliate, but this works too.)

Granted in 2003-04, when 10 Eastern teams made it and 4 didn’t, the Albany River Rats had the worst record in the conference, but hey, we had recently won a SC.

The Amerks scored the most goals in the our Conference so, no, I don’t see it as harder to do on their team. They’re a non-playoff team because they also lead the league in GA. I don’t have any problem with them winning the award either.

I see making the playoffs is an award in itself. What was I thinking?

Rochester scored the most goals because Peterka and Quinn were their number two and three in scoring them.

Their leader in Mersch has one more goal than they do. They also have two other rookies in Weisbach and Biro in their top ten (6 and 8).

Quinn did it in 25 and 20 fewer games than Peterka and Mersch.
