Syracuse is a possessed team when trailing entering the 3rd. They will attack the puck, double teaming the puck possessor whenever possible. Also as the period moves on Benoit Groulx is famous for pulling his keeper with lots of time left in a game and they obviously work on it as they score on it a lot.
He will pull the keeper on a PP and go 6 on 4 with the net empty. They will move the puck all over the zone to prevent the defenders from getting a chance to do much more than try to hold their box. If anyone opens the door they will then move inside with an odd man advantage vs the defender who remains. Come off the back side to fill in and they will then exploit the far side left now with only one defender. It's fun to watch unless it's your team they are working against.
A PPG to start the 3rd would go a long way to stretch the lead out ahead of them. The last thing the Comets or most any team can do with a lead on the Crunch is to sit back and defend. Especially the Comets, since they don't do it well at all. This team is offense first and that's the way to play against the Crunch. I mean play smart, but push the puck up the ice. They can't score while defending in their own end.
