Even in limited minutes the speed, physicality, and pressure of this game is exactly the kind of thing that will turn Byfield, Kaliyev, Spence et. al. into monsters

Honestly Kaliyev looked like a total stud, completely unbothered.
Kaliyev and Spence were the only rookies who looked good. Byfield was ass but he turned it on a bit

Hello to any Oiler fans lurking here.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING – 'You know playoff hockey is among us when you have diarrhea 3 times in a day from nerves' PRE-GAME Edition

Game Talk coming.............

5 Mins 4 Ftg : Oilers win Game 1, 3-1 and I will be there taking in the atmosphere, cant wait!

Ginger Papa : Absolutely amazing GDT to set the stage for the Series

2e18c8d0-6282-4a56-b048-5a87c981e6ec-gif.538888

@Ginger Papa rooting against us AGAIN. Perma banned from our boards!

Bryanbryoil : My favorite part about playoff hockey is that the physicality ratchets up. Looking forward to seeing pissy Leon out there!

McDavidKindaFast : it's finally here!

Oilers come out ripping and just slaughter the Queens tonight, probably 5-0 or something close

The Batman : I think this team can do some damage in the playoffs. Go Oilers.

KCC : If Smith can hold the fort I think EDM should be able to win this series easily enough. The Kings are a scrappy defensive team and Quick standing on his head and stealing games would not surprise me though. Either way this is probably the best match up the team could have hoped for.

Jay Daddy :

200w.gif

Jay Daddy : On a side note, it would be nice if Quick was a sieve in this series but I'm fully expecting him to channel 2012 Quick since we can't catch a break in the playoffs lol

Magnum23 : We need to break his (Quick's) confidence early put in 4-5 behind him and the whole team breaks down

NeverForget06 : I fully expect Leon and Connor to have Kopitar and Danualt water skiing behind them throughout the series. People will be screaming bloody murder in here.

CantHaveTkachev : 4-2 Oilers with an empty netter

MessierII : Get ready for Cali reffing.

BoldNewLettuce : Its totally rigged for sure if it's kozari.

WaitingForUser : The NHL wants to do everything the can to make sure Hollywood makes the 2nd round.

CupofOil :

6eo245.jpg

CycloneSweep : LA will be allowed to do what they want, and Kozari will call us for the same thing. Hard to play 5v5 when your opposition can hold, puck and interfere with impunity and the moment you look at them wrong, you get sent to the box.

ToeMcDrag83 : That brazen Hollywood fix.

CycloneSweep : Lol. Of all the refs, or course the NHL gives us the one ref that has bad blood with our captain. This league is a joke

Rengorlex : This league is seriously fixed. f*** off Batman

Bryanbryoil : All that I ask for is consistent and fair reffing. We should win the special teams battle based on regular season stats (yes the playoffs are a different animal) so as long as the PP chances are relatively close and neither team gets away with murder while the other team can't get away with ticky tac calls, I'm good.

Oilhawks : Let’s wait to complain about the refs after they f*** up a game, no? I seem to recall that Kozari and McDavid “patched things up” after as well

Mr Positive : We are the 2 v 3 seed against LA, and if you go by just the Woody half of the season, we are a lot better than the Kings, and not just by the one divisional rank.

I also think that the Cali reffing reputation came about because they were all strong veteran teams. That isn't the case anymore. I'd be curious about what the stats on penalties are this year

bone : Kozari may be taming down a bit with the bias. Oilers are 3-2 in his games this year with Penalties being exactly equal at 14-14. Considering Edmonton is bottom six in the league for penalty differential at -22, a ref that's 50/50 in our games may actually be good.

Edmonton's 5-0 with Rehman this year with Penalty calls being 16 against the opponents and 13 for Edmonton.

BlackMcDog : Look for that first call against the Oilers even to try and put the Oilers off kilter even if they "let them play" after.

Bryanbryoil : Let's hope so. The good refs are the ones whose name you don't even remember unless they've been around forever.

Jay Daddy : Yeah, I definitely think both goalies bring their best in this series. If that's the case, we win in 5 or 6. If Smith is a sieve and Quick is lights out, we are looking at another Jets-like series. I have confidence in Smith this time around though!

CornKicker : LAs defensive lock down style is effective until they are down in games. once they are forced to open up a bit they are vulnerable to the oilers offense.

Mr Positive : Against LA, I could imagine the bad scenario is that we are down by two in the third and LA will sit on their lead. Even then, I don't think Danault and Kopitar and Quick can hold off the waves of attack that would come.

Drivesaitl : Just wanted to state to all the younger fans (almost anybody here) this Buds for you. I've had my time, seen my Championships, but I really want the club to do something special for all the fans that never got the chance to see Championships or Calibre or contending teams.

Rengorlex : We are ready to win.

Mr Kot : If we win this game, we win the cup;

(Jesus Christ these fans think they already won the f***ing cup!)

SSJ4 Gogeta : Winning is most important but I'd love to see McDavid go insane during this run and carry this team to shut up, once and for all, the ignorant fools that think he isn't a playoff performer.

Da McBomb : Can't wait to see Oil country go nuts. Best fans in the league come playoffs... barnone.

BoldNewLettuce : Do they win game 1 despite the reffing is my hot take based on decades of confusion and sadness.

tardigrade81 : You know playoff hockey is among us when you have diarrhea 3 times in a day from nerves

Woodcroftbeast : Nervous about Quick to be honest. I feel like Quick is either gonna transform into a vezina candidate or completely crap the bed with no in between.

FlameChampion : A win tonight, and I think Edmonton runs away with the series. A loss tonight, and all the guys start gripping their sticks more and thinking about the past.

oXo Cube : I think we'll get it. 4-1 Win.

ToeMcDrag83 : God please Oilers, just finish them off in 4.

xoczar99ox : Our top two player have litteraly double the points of LA’s top two players do, losing is not an option! Go! Oilers! Go!

Drai Fi : I say we win in 5 if we win tonight. If we don’t, it’ll be especially hard for us to perform up to our ability.

thadd : Oilers, this is your year. If you can beat a team like LA, you can beat a team like Calgary. If you can beat a team like Calgary, you can win the cup. --- Me

bellagiobob : I’m 100% confident that the boys will win this series. I was also 100% confident we would beat the Jets last year.

NeverForget06 : This is an obvious thing to say - but it's very important we score first during this series. The Kings don't have the horses to keep up from behind. I worry about their ability to punish our mistakes if we get behind though.

Rengorlex : Hoping we get half of the PPs that Tampa/Toronto have gotten. Special teams battle there.

Game Talk coming.............

The pundits can laugh at the Kings all they want, being the 'weakest playoff team'...and even should they lose round 1, the Kings are on the rise and by next year will be better, for certain. Byfield, Kaliyev, Spence and others, will be emerging into very good players. Even chances that Turcotte, Chromiak, Clarke, Thomas, play some next year and Drew will be back. Now...if Faber would sign at the end of next season, that would be even better.

That game settles it, they aren't a weak playoff team, and everyone better just get used to it.

Makes you wonder what’s going on in Montreal, letting Danault go like that. Wait we can just ask the Senior Consultant to Blake about that, can’t we?
Esp since he's quebecois - they dont usually let local talent leave like that... they misjudged his skillset.. good on Blake and co for signing him.

I am heading over the Oilers board to do some interjections.

"The game was tied at 3 all, when Smith found he had the puck. He made a connection in the other direction, and the crowd starting shouting out interjections ---"

"Smith you dumbass!"

"You suck Smith!"

"Smith, you just lost us the game!"

"Hooray! I'm for the other team!"
Lol.

"Darn! You just lost the game!

Honestly, we are not watching Kings hockey tonight, without him. Not that many others have also stepped up, for certain.
100% agree. Really didn't watch the playoffs last season and read that Danault did a number on Marner, Matthews etc now I know why. Dude's a monster defensively and I feel should be a Selke finalist. What he did with the Kings this past season was nothing short of a miracle.

These players like O'Reilly and Danault are worth more than 10M+ cap hit players in the playoffs.

Danault was basically god-tier tonight.

It's the thing we've seen from Kopitar his whole career until now and most people just can't seem to wrap their heads around it.

Yeah, guys like Kopitar and Toews are 'only' going to get you 70 points, but they're also going to render your 100 pt scorer into a 50 pt scorer and win their matchups.

He was great all year, but this? This was him being a different animal altogether.
