DANAULT is absolutely NOT a top 6 player

He's a great 3rd line center

I'm a Habs fan and I always viewed him that way, an awesome 3rd liner nothing more. I was relieved when he signed with the Kings. We already have enough bad contracts, with Drouin, Gallagher, Price, Anderson...

He was overrated by many blind fans, who came here to tell you how great he was and that he would be an awesome #2C for your team... How can you expect offence from a player who has a relatively weak shot that he rarely uses, above average passing ability at best, hands made of stone and no creativity in his game ? He won't make his wingers better offensively, that's not a top-6, in my book.

Is he getting PP time ? Because that's one of the reasons he left... Good luck with him, you have many young promising centres, so sooner rather than later, he will be the #3C and that's the perfect position for him, with his great defence.

Brave man, Rinaldo. Cue the reflexive anger that another team's fan would come here and critique one of our players in three, two, one...

Call Danault what you want, his usage is part of the reason Kopitar is off roaring, which is literally exactly why he was brought here...all the other stuff is ignorant fluff, but you guys do you. But it is pretty brave for a Habs fan of all guys to be in here criticizing offense after the start  you would think it would be readily apparent why all their offensive guys are suddenly getting crushed, but...

The problem, as it has been, is offense from everyone else...looking at the Vilardi line in particular...with those kind of soft minutes after everything else is gobbled up by Kopitar and Danault, you simply cannot get caved in. You can't. I don't care who you're out there with.

Fun fact: Danault has more goals/points in fewer games than Toffoli, Gallagher, Suzuki, Caufield....all but 2 Habs.

It's funny to see that Habs fans still have time to come troll our boards when their team is doing so poorly. You think they'd be more concerned with their own bleak outlook.

Was it me, or was that 3rd line benched for most of the 3rd?

I think they got a PP mid way through the third and the Vilardi line was out there for that. Afterwards it looks like they rode the pine and the Lizotte line was promoted in ice time. Hard to argue against it given the lack of chances being generated.

It's so perplexing that Vilardi looked primed and ready to go (from the preseason performance) and he's basically been invisible for first 3 games....wtf.

The time is now for Vilardi to take a step forward, because he and his line have been horrendous. The Kopi and Danault lines are eating the vast majority of the tough minutes/match-ups, that line cannot be as bad and invisible as it has been. And I don't want to hear about Lias Andersson, if Vilardi needs Andersson to not look like a corpse out there, that's a problem

it's unbelievable how people view data

We have the majority of our players that are pointless as well btw, so can you factor that in, in your analysis? Does it matter if Kopitar ends up with 100pts this season if everyone else can't crack 10pts?

It reminds me of a video game, where some stronger weapons cover more slots and thus less spots for other weapons. No idea why Kopitar needs to come with his own little pokemon, but fine, we drank the kool-aid and this is now our beliefs. A player is only as good as whatever task he can delegate to his 3rdC.

The reason why Kopitar / Carter / Richards were good at scoring had little to do with any Guy Carbonneau type player in the lineup and more to do with the fact that they are players capable of scoring lol

So Anze Kopitar (now comes with Danault) for Kopitar to be productive, this covers two slots to get our #1C going, but what will propel our #2C to produce? what will propel our #3C to produce? what will propel our #4C to produce? what will propel our #2RW #2LW #3RW #3LW #4RW #4LW?

Should we go get little danos for all them?

None of these guys are natural scorers: Iafallo, Kempe, Brown, Lemieux, Moore, Lizotte, Tkachev, Grundstrom, etc... and it's DANO! that we were urged to add, overpriced at $5.5m to boot!

This team is literally a veteran stay at home D and a couple of goons away from being Dean Lombardi 2.0.

Only issue, is our coach is garbage.

Might as well get Sutter, he knows how to win 2-1 games (with C. Petersen) at least

You think it's because we lost Danault ? If so, I heavily disagree with you. That's crazy talk, but you are free to believe it.

I don't watch the Kings, I'm not here to tell you which of your players is good/bad (excluding Danault obviously) or to start a fight between our two teams. I can only talk about Danault whom I watched years getting carried by his wingers offensively.

That's not hard, even you and I have as many points as them...

0-4, road to 0-82.

agreed, there are definitely multiple reasons why the Habs are starting their season as they have

Danault is ONE of them but not THE reason

I think it’s about playing a lot with the 2nd and 3rd defense pairings. Zero points from the D outside of Doughty. Losing Lias was a setback to start with and there isn’t a comparable player to replace him in the bottom six. I’d like to say Grundstrom but outside of his infrequently displayed shot, he generates zero offense. Lemieux might be the closest but is a couple steps down in hockey skill and also unavailable.

It’s painful to consider, but Wagner might be the next best option. Frk looks like the tweener with the lead for the next call up if the downward trend continues. Reuniting him with Vilardi is an easy storyline to trot out there in hopes of improvement.

Exactly. We added 0 goals to our blueline this offseason, sure Bjornfot has a good poke check, but our top 2 goal scorers on the blue line last season were Doughty and Macdermid....

Anderson and Bjornfot kind of fill the same hole, so I imagine that 1 of the 2 will eventually be traded in a larger package for an Offensive LHD.

Is he getting PP time ? Because that's one of the reasons he left.
We clone him and he is playing all 60 minutes of each game. PP, PK, ES, Extra attacker.

He does all of the pre game, intermission, on the bench, and post game interviews. He is also hosting the post game show on our regional sports network.

The Kings are also putting up a statue of him outside the arena as we speak.

Word is that Luc Robitaille is working on getting his birthday declared a national holiday in the US. National Tortilla Chip Day is really gonna lose out on this, but let's face it, tortilla chips can't compete with Phillip Danault

Is Vilardi still waiver exempt? I wouldn't be opposed to him spending some time at the AHL level to regain confidence. Not sure who plays 3rd line center in his place.. Maybe you move Moore or Kempe back to center for now.

I’m sure we’ll see Maata in for Bjornfot on this road trip, possibly as soon as Friday night. With the game on a national broadcast, management will see it as an opportunity to showcase him for a potential trade partner.

I doubt we see any roster moves for 10 games or so, but I think everything is on the table with waiver-exempt players.

Through three games, Anze Kopitar has 5 goals, and everyone else on the roster has combined for 4 goals (Brown, Arvidsson, Doughty, Danault).

The team is chock full of depth forwards who can’t score, and offense from the blueline is inexistent.

I really believe our forwards are fine. I think the biggest problem we have is to many stay at home defensemen. We are having big issues getting out of our zone. I liked Strand and Wolainan puck moving ability as well as being able to find shooting lanes to get the puck to the net. Of course its the defensive end where other players rank better so one sits at Ontario and the other moves to Buffalo. For guys who played Hockey here at higher level than recreational, you know how a defenseman ability to move or carry the puck out of the zone makes your 40 sec shift much fresher in the offensive zone. If your spending 20 sec fighting along the boards to get the puck out your gassed in the offensive zone. At the NHL level there is very little room for players who only play half the ice surface.

If Vilardi needs time in the AHL to regain confidence, he's done. There should be no more excuses for the guy. Time to put up.

That speaks to a different problem, because if the Kings are playing Blake Lizotte on the 3rd line, this team is going nowhere fast
Why?

His line was very good yesterday. Lizotte is a useful player unfairly maligned here. He is not a problem whatsoever.

Danault is like Stoll, a critical role player on a contending team. We tried Stoll at 2C for years and never got anywhere. The same will happen with Danault, I’m sure.

We really need one of these vaunted forward prospects to have a breakthrough year. They can’t all go the way of Kempe, otherwise we’ll be awful for a very long time.
