You’re assuming the ask would include Clarke…
Consider what is realistically an untouchable Kings prospect list.. they wouldn’t trade Byfield, Turcotte or Kaliyev for Eichel and that was before it got ugly and he revealed he wanted the surgery..
they aren’t trading multiple 1st as they want to keep the pipeline going while they continue their build.. I see them doing what the Dodgers did, most are suggesting they pulls off a Lakers Anthony Davis deal.. both obviously led to a championship but one path is looking much better than the other
I think the untouchable list is Byfield and Clarke. Turcotte, Kaliyev, Bjornfot probably not in the conversation also.

That may be so, but you absolutey canot over pay. Look at the Eichel deal by comparison. The guy is a top five player in the league, is 24 and signed for five more seasons. On the other hand, he was injured and had a huge cap hit. By comparison Chychrun is not a top 20 D-man (yet) but plays on a lousy team and has a great contract that we can extend if we so choose given our cap space. Thus, Eichel's deal should be the absolute ceiling, and even that should be too high. So we are looking at:

an established middle six winger/d-man - Iafallo or Bjornfot
a middle of the first roud draft choice from 2 years ago - Vilardi or Kupari
#1 pick top 10 protected this year, not next
# 3 pick next year (we have an extra if Carter palys 50 games this season)

This is something i would agree to if we offer for Chyrum.
Everything beyond that is a pass

Werenski
Ekbald
Seider
Dahlin
Chabot
McAvoy
Bouchard
Trouba
Jones
Fox
Sergachev
Cernak
Provorov
Romanov
Makar
Girard
Heiskanen
Drysdale
Byram
Toews
Graves

This is a yummy list.
Makar would be the person, i would possibly offer the asking price

So what ???

Games 26Goals 2Assists 5Points 7-29
[TBODY] [/TBODY]
This is what he is doing right now.
If you as top defender are -29 , something is really wrong

I can't believe, people offering those insane riches for that guy.
Doughty was a -34 once.

Just had a headline from the Athletic drop on my phone that said “ Kings battling covid outbreak “…….. thought damn goes tonight’s game , but it’s the other kings , you know the one they showed the logo from on the fox 11 news

Chycrun doesn’t supplant anyone on the Kings roster, unlike Eichel who became the Knights best player. Giving up a comparable package would be an over payment because a defenseman won’t lift this team enough to be a contender. All it does is improve your odds at being a playoff team. But that’s no sure bet for a team which is currently just above mediocre.

I like Chycrun, especially at his age and contract, but he’s not going to lead this team on a deep run anytime soon. So what exactly is the point of blowing your wad on a at best marginal return? It’s a distraction to focus on his gaudy goals number because it’s a one time accomplishment so far. That year he shared duties with OEL and Goligoski, so he had experienced defenseman to share minutes with. This year, his cohort is worse and he hasn’t made up the gap. The drop off on the Kings is just as steep, with the only positive being potential upside from guys like Anderson, Bjornfot and Durzi.

So does the potential cost of Chycrun make sense for this Kings team if it doesn’t guarantee a wildcard spot this year, and next year a top 3 finish in the division followed by a 2 round run in the playoffs? No, IMO.

Wait, did you say Chycrun doesn't supplant anyone? He immediately becomes our #2, by a LONG shot....

Beating out Matt Roy isn’t something to trumpet if it costs you 4-1 for players. Let me put it this way, is it guaranteed that Jake Chycrun is the #1D compared to Drew Doughty? If no, why go all in on a complimentary piece with no playoff certainty, never mind 4-8 games of playoffs revenue?

I can be swayed either way on the trade but this is like saying Malkin isn't a 1C compared to Crosby.

Chychrun is a LOT closer to Drew Doughty than he is Matt Roy. He's a #1 dman--to what degree we can argue, sure.

I’d agree if Chycrun had a couple of great seasons and a hint of playoff pedigree. He’s been a 20’ish point guy for 4 out of 5 seasons. And last season was fake with the divisional schedule. If he hadn’t clowned the Kings all last abbreviated season, do you think fans would be so hot to sell the farm at the first hint of rumor?

Wow the trades being through around for Chycrun are insane. There is no way I am parting with Turcotte, Clarke, Byfield etc. for him. If there is a deal for something like Vilardi or Kupari plus a 1st and another draft pick, that is something to stomach, but to trade the farm when we have Clarke and other young D that can slot in the next 1-3 years, is insane.

One one of the worst teams of the DECADE...of two DECADES......

I don't get it, everyone gets upset when people say Doughty this, or Doughty that, he couldn't do this etc, and everyone on this board puts their dick in their hand saying, yea but the Kings are bad.....etc so it's an excuse for Doughty, but for no one else?

Chycrun hands down becomes our #2 D, at the age of 23....10+ years left.....yea, let's say no because he plays for a shitty team.....some of you guys make my f***ing head hurt.

Tell me...how well did Griffin Reinhart slot in in the Isles D ? # 4 OA right?

You have one thing right, price absolutely matters.....but to talk about Clarke, Faber, Grans, like they are 100% surefire locks, is absolute insanity.

I want Chychrun, but just not at Byfield+++. Of course, the truth is usually somewhere in between. The trade board wants like two firsts, elite prospect, and top prospect which is ridiculous, and of course every Kings fan wants middling prospects and a first. I'd be surprised if Blake pulled the trigger and wary of the cost, but certainly anyone would love to have him on the roster...

The Malkin/Crosby comp is pretty bad but I agree that Chychrun is better offensively than Roy while I can also argue pretty convincingly that Roy is better defensively..

Chycrun has been terrible this year. Was he a product of having OEL and Goligoski? Was his play before an outlier? Which player are you getting if you trade for him?

If it's a buy low thing, I'm fine with that, but if it takes the packages around here I wouldn't pull the trigger just because of that risk. +/- isn't everything but when a defenseman is 20 points south of the next lowest D-man in fewer than 30 games, that's hard to ignore. Right now it's not the team, it's him. He's on pace to break the all-time worst +\- record, and while I doubt he pulls it off, but even being in that conversation is concerning. Arizona isn't anywhere near the pile of shit that the '75 caps were.

Personally I think he'll bounce back, but not to the point where I would feel comfortable sending more than a 1st + Kupari/Fagemo.

100%

I'd still trade 2 1sts and a roster player/prospect ,and not even think twice, Chycrun at 23, is a 100% guaranteed NHL player, the 2 1sts are not, I take a sure thing over a gamble.....

Now if Chycrun was 27 and a UFA or even a RFA, that's another story altogether, context matters.

It’s the cost that raises concerns. Everyone has their own definition of value and untouchables. Personally I would be fine to swap out JC for a 2022 protected first, Kempe and Turcotte. A fourth player would be overpayment at that point. So would swapping in Vilardi, Kaliyev or Clarke for Turcotte. Byfield is my untouchable.

Is it worth getting in a bidding war for Chycrun? Maybe if you’re just looking to fill holes on the roster, but it seems like tunnel vision to me to view things in that lens.
