I brought up Getzalf as he is an older dish first player.

I agree that most points should no necessitate captaincy. I was not in favor of it going from Kopitar to Brown at the time but looking at the team this year I would rather it be on Kopitar. Who else would you give it to? I don't like Drew having an A let alone the C.

I cannot say how he is a captain, I think you would have to give the players truth serum to find out how is doing.

Maybe though we over value the importance of the C? There are a lot of teams without Captains right now and some that it sure has not hurt.

All I know is I don't doubt that it's just a mere coincidence that Kopitar being a giant p***y is and the Kings playing like giant p***yes are not related. I'd rather have someone else be captain than Kopitar. I'd take the A from Brown and the C from Kopitar and give the A to Adrian. And give the C immediately to someone else because if we're going to start giving letters to players who are tough to play against and who lead by example then we should be giving it to Lizotte for nearly dying every game the second he touches the puck.

The franchise won two Cups with Brown--one of the biggest hit and run guys in NHL history--wearing the C. He's still here so why does it matter if he has a letter or not: if they won two with him as the leader then why do they play soft if he is still here?

The current aging core were youngsters themselves at one point in time and they had to be augmented by total studs like Williams, Richards and Mitchell to go along with guys like Stoll and Greene that didn't need any help themselves. Brown was an absolute force in 2012 but Lombardi filled that team up with dudes that were capable of wearing a C themselves.

The Kings don't have anything like that right now. Sure, we all like Iafallo but he's not going to drop the gloves in the odd scrap. Mitchell would. Williams and Richards too. Greene is one of the worst fighters in NHL history but he's going to stick up for his teammates. We've seen the Kings just eat cheap shots for years and years now with the Tkachuk elbow being the beginning of the end for thinking this team would stick up for one another. The core guys left over--outside of Quick--are not looking to provoke any extracurricular activities and, really, never have been. Brown used to hit everything in sight to piss off the other team and then draw penalties but he's not looking to do that now, plus he almost always had some sort of Parros/Ivanans/Westgarth type during his hitting hay day.

Everyone says that the grit is easy to acquire after you get the talent. Well, I see talented teams having to ship out 1st round picks and/or overpay for it so it isn't so easy. Blake needs to draft or look into going the UDFA route on some guys with jam v. having two midgets in the bottom six. Losing Edler makes them even softer which is a gnarly thing to say and something I never thought I'd ever type.

Got off on a tangent but, at the end of the day, it isn't because Kopitar is wearing the C. The old guys aren't killers and none of the prospects or additions Blake has made are killers either outside of Lemieux. It is popular to rag on DL's drafting since maybe he supposedly overlooked skill in favor of intangibles but I feel like Blake pretty much did a total 180. He has five drafts under his belt now and Helenius is the first pick that appears to maybe be that type of heavy player they are sorely lacking. Not a madman by any means but a dude that is going to wear guys down physically and not take shit like 95% of the current roster does.

As much as I dislikes Richards he would hit, and make crucial plays even though his good time with the Kings was pretty short lived. There were multiple guys who could have worn the C on the Kings that time. Kopitar wouldn't be one of them if those players were still around. Browns game has been pretty neutered too. I agree it's bad that none of the kids have a bite really. Seems Turcotte might. Seems like they got him for that reason alone that he's talented and has character. But I do think now more than ever with the core being shrunken down as much as it has do you now realize how it wasn't Kopitar that lead the Kings in the room. It is the players that we lost. Greene, Williams, and Mitchell most definitely.

Also, how many hockey lives does Olli Maatta have? Dude must practice voodoo at home.

What we SHOULD get--Wolanin, cup of coffee for Moverare
What we WILL get--Olli Maatta on the 2nd pairing

Poor papa Edler man, that sucks at our age :( wonder if he's even going to try to come back or just hang em up...do not watch that replay twice.

f***ing hate being right, man.

"Here’s how the Kings lined up, roughly, during today’s practice –
Kempe – Kopitar – Brown
Iafallo – Danault – Arvidsson
Kaliyev – Kupari/Anderson-Dolan – Athanasiou
Lemieux – Moore/Andersson – Grundstrom
Anderson – Doughty
Maatta – Roy
Bjornfot – Durzi
Wolanin"

I wouldn't exactly call you Kreskin on this one.

Yes the small and frail Joe Thornton, Jordan Greenway, and Shane Doan. And let's not forget the biggest midget In the league, Zdeno Chara. Ryan Getzlaf, known spotpicker.

It's cool to hate the Ducks, I get it. But Getzlaf at no point in his career has he ever come off as a p***y. And he's taken so many penalties for his aggression.

He’s come off as a whiny bitch many of times, that might be worse.

Getzlaf hasn’t won shit….I’ll take Kopitar’s two cups over being tough any day.

I've been so impressed by Lemieux. Productive and has shown this godly ability to get under people's skin. It's amazing. I haven't wanted a jersey for a King since Palffy, but Lemieux has got me interested.

The fact foligno rants about how he hates Lemieux, the entire bench standing up as he skates by. At that moment the wild would be more keen on skating out of position and getting him. That's distraction, and that distraction can be the difference of someone missing a pass, handling a puck poorly, and skating distractedly. Have no doubt that some the Wild were looking at numbers and name plates and missed their positioning from that split second.

He's a much less idiotic Carillo, and more talented player.

Getzlaf plays hard and does great things for the community, dude is a stud. Hair or no hair. Kinda mean people dog him for that. I would take him on the Kings any day - he’s basically a 6’-3” Mike Richards without the pain killer problem.
Richard's and Baldy are completely different players stylistically

I won’t argue his career, but he wasn’t even a top 5 player on his cup.

Getzlaf led the Ducks in scoring and had the highest time on ice among forwards en route to the Cup in 2007. He was no passenger. Perry was second in scoring and averaged 16 minutes per game, no slouch there either. I hate the guys, and yes they had a good team, but they were crucial players for the Ducks on that run.

As an aside, Pronger, Niedermayer, and Beauchemin were each averaging 30 minutes per night in the playoffs though. Just bonkers.

exactly. He and Perry had the team for more than 10 years and didn't win jack as captains [aside from a few worthless banners]. They were so easy to get under their skin during the playoffs, with Quick in Perry's head the entire time. Quick was just mocking him every time he tried to start something. You can be so called "tough" on the ice leaders, but if you don't win, bfd!

No Byfield tomorrow?

The Kings have won the last 2, and 3 of 4, going on the road for 4 very difficult games, already have Kupari playing, already have Kaliyev in there, already sat JAD in favor of Moore, and Byfield hasn't played much this year. Andersson is hanging around. Lizotte might be ready to go at some point, I don't even know how long he's been out anymore. Do you really have an expectation that Byfield is going to get in there in the short term?

Kopitar is the better player by a mile, but Getzlaf has always been better in the role of #1c and captain.

I think this is debateable at best.

As captain, I like Getzlaf stepping up for his dudes, but he also has a history of being petulant little bitch when he doesn't get his way, and while the mythos of 'angry getzlaf' is awesome--he sometimes channels it in a way in which he just takes over and is better than Malkin imo--more often than not it results in falling apart, chucking his stick and throwing up his arms, pissy body language.

Also as a 1C they couldn't hide Getzlaf from Kopitar hard enough, they went out and got Kesler specifically to do so.
