I thought McDavid's board was the dirtiest we've seen this year, not seeing a pattern really. Edler was mostly unfortunate at least, just caught his skate. D tend to get hit more due to the nature of their position. I'm all for getting a tough D, though. Just because nothing really has happened so far doesn't mean it wont in the future. Some for protection, but more to make the middle of our ice a tough zone to go to.

That Knee on Drew was pretty f'n dirty

Your team is only as tough as your captain. Kopitar caressing McDavids breasts right after he boards someone is why the Kings are soft as shit. An enforcer doesn't change that. Taking the C from Kopitar does.

Honestly f*** that too, the amount of shit Kempe gets for being the final first round pick is insane. Sure he's inconsistent but what King isn't? Dudes stepped up at points every year yet people shit on him. So annoying, he's also the only one who f***ing shows some bite on this bullshit ass team. I just watched the Doughty knee and Kempe was the one doing the most.

Give the guy a f***ing A. I can't believe no one got buried from that Knee. God.

I've grown to really like Adrian despite his inconsistencies. He's done well as a last pick from the first round. And he's shown no sign of regressing so despite his inconsistencies when Kempe shoots I know it's a good shot, when Kempe has the puck I know he's going to try to do something.

I'm not a Kempe homer by any means, but why should guys like him who produce, and show care for his fellow team mate not have an A? What have Kopitar and Brown done this season besides being semi productive, and nothing else.

If you want to change the culture of the team., you reward players like Lemieux, Kempe, and Roy. Whoever else who plays well and shows they give a f***. You don't just give accolades for tenure as hard as it is not to. You instill in your younger players that being tough and getting into faces is rewarded and they will do it to get on the good side of the brass. I guarantee it.

When Reaves was in Vegas, all Vegas players played like :eek::eek::eek::eek: because Reaves would get preferential treatment when they were losing. How many times would Reaves be out on the ice in the last few minutes to send a message?so often. What do you think the other players got from that? That the coach likes it, and this is what the team is about.

I'm not talking about meat heads need to fill this roster, no.

Players who play hard and well should be however. Players who stand up for one another should be rewarded so the other players can try to follow in their footsteps.

Kopitar is soft as shit. Brown aside from the rare big hit is pretty f***ing soft too. You never see him saying anything in skirmishes at all, rarely involved in them.

I've been so impressed by Lemieux. Productive and has shown this godly ability to get under people's skin. It's amazing. I haven't wanted a jersey for a King since Palffy, but Lemieux has got me interested.

The fact foligno rants about how he hates Lemieux, the entire bench standing up as he skates by. At that moment the wild would be more keen on skating out of position and getting him. That's distraction, and that distraction can be the difference of someone missing a pass, handling a puck poorly, and skating distractedly. Have no doubt that some the Wild were looking at numbers and name plates and missed their positioning from that split second.

He's a much less idiotic Carillo, and more talented player.

Your captain does not need to be more aggressive than Kopitar. Gretzky was softer than Kopitar and most would not strip him of the C.
This team is soft as shit though. I will keeping point to the Edler hit, and the Doughty knee as examples. The McDavid one is different to me because it was McDavid.

You can't compare Gretzky to Kopitar though. Very different eras as well.

Hischier work then for you? Couture?

Point is I do not think the push back has to come from the captain.

Both those players have more fights than Kopitar..

No offense but you're just proving to me what a big p***y Kopitar is

since when did we start talking about fight totals? I'm talking about toughness and how (IMO) a captain does not need to be the toughest player on the ice. You can play tough without fighting.

If you are referring to him only going after the smallest player of the other team, then OK.

Yes the small and frail Joe Thornton, Jordan Greenway, and Shane Doan. And let's not forget the biggest midget In the league, Zdeno Chara. Ryan Getzlaf, known spotpicker.

It's cool to hate the Ducks, I get it. But Getzlaf at no point in his career has he ever come off as a p***y. And he's taken so many penalties for his aggression.

How on earth does Kopitar play tough? If you think him back checking, and being good at puck protection being "tough" then I don't know how that makes him a good captain. If you think that is tough, then Blake Lizotte has to be by far the toughest King because he gets obliterated every time he makes a play. Entire staples center ice has his outline. Blake Lizotte makes so many plays with him knowing he's going to Hiroshima'd for it.

My whole point at the beginning was that a captain does not need to play tough. Getz was a piss poor example, will give ya that. Kopitar can be a good leader as a voice in the room, and leading by example in work ethic and shit like that.

Kopitar doesnt need to be tough in a fighting kind of way. I just wish hed play with some intensity and emotion. He plays the same whether they are winning 3-0 in the first period or they are losing by 1 with a minute left.
Hes such a skilled player that he will get by on raw talent for a long time. But this team needs a new leader badly. Byfields gotta grab the bull by the horns here or they will not get over the hump.

By the way. Nico hischier fought Trouba... Giving up a ton of reach to stand up for his team mate. While Kopitar again was caressing McDavids nipples after he boarded his team mate right in front of him. I've seen Getzlaf stand up for his team mates countless times because I actually watch the Ducks. Even just simply youtube couture before you compare them to Princess Anze.

Don't know about tough but Getzlaf and Couture have been vocal and have gotten into skirmishes, they aren't fighters but they have shown that they don't take shit. I always wished that for Kopitar. Don't think he's ever gotten a roughing penalty, maybe by mistake lol

You know who has good work ethic? Most fourth liners who are trying to keep a job in the NHL. At what point have you ever noticed on the ice that Kopitar was displaying vocal leadership qualities. I don't think you should reward players for just merely being your most productive player. What have the Kings done under Kopitars captaincy to suggest to you what he's doing is working? Let's be realistic. Kopitar is a productive player but a shitty captain

You probably wouldnt have even brought up Getzlaf if the Kings and Ducks were both cap ceiling teams.

The franchise won two Cups with Brown--one of the biggest hit and run guys in NHL history--wearing the C. He's still here so why does it matter if he has a letter or not: if they won two with him as the leader then why do they play soft if he is still here?

The current aging core were youngsters themselves at one point in time and they had to be augmented by total studs like Williams, Richards and Mitchell to go along with guys like Stoll and Greene that didn't need any help themselves. Brown was an absolute force in 2012 but Lombardi filled that team up with dudes that were capable of wearing a C themselves.

The Kings don't have anything like that right now. Sure, we all like Iafallo but he's not going to drop the gloves in the odd scrap. Mitchell would. Williams and Richards too. Greene is one of the worst fighters in NHL history but he's going to stick up for his teammates. We've seen the Kings just eat cheap shots for years and years now with the Tkachuk elbow being the beginning of the end for thinking this team would stick up for one another. The core guys left over--outside of Quick--are not looking to provoke any extracurricular activities and, really, never have been. Brown used to hit everything in sight to piss off the other team and then draw penalties but he's not looking to do that now, plus he almost always had some sort of Parros/Ivanans/Westgarth type during his hitting hay day.

Everyone says that the grit is easy to acquire after you get the talent. Well, I see talented teams having to ship out 1st round picks and/or overpay for it so it isn't so easy. Blake needs to draft or look into going the UDFA route on some guys with jam v. having two midgets in the bottom six. Losing Edler makes them even softer which is a gnarly thing to say and something I never thought I'd ever type.

Got off on a tangent but, at the end of the day, it isn't because Kopitar is wearing the C. The old guys aren't killers and none of the prospects or additions Blake has made are killers either outside of Lemieux. It is popular to rag on DL's drafting since maybe he supposedly overlooked skill in favor of intangibles but I feel like Blake pretty much did a total 180. He has five drafts under his belt now and Helenius is the first pick that appears to maybe be that type of heavy player they are sorely lacking. Not a madman by any means but a dude that is going to wear guys down physically and not take shit like 95% of the current roster does.

I want to see Pepe moved up....and yes, he would excel. Give Kopi Iafallo back and give Danault Arvidsson Lemieux, to create room for them...and Pepe would score 15 goals from this point on, to reach 20. Would then command a big raise, it's a contract year for him. Would also get more from Kopi and Kempe.

Iafallo Kopitar Kempe
Lemieux Danault Arvidsson

bonus - Lemieux and Danault could speak French and Jedi Mind F the opposition....

I brought up Getzalf as he is an older dish first player.

I agree that most points should no necessitate captaincy. I was not in favor of it going from Kopitar to Brown at the time but looking at the team this year I would rather it be on Kopitar. Who else would you give it to? I don't like Drew having an A let alone the C.

I cannot say how he is a captain, I think you would have to give the players truth serum to find out how is doing.

Maybe though we over value the importance of the C? There are a lot of teams without Captains right now and some that it sure has not hurt.

A single letter on a jersey isn't going to change an entire culture.

That we have to sit here and parse "well, x hit was clean" instead of seeing someone jump into action for a brother is exactly the problem.

I don't give a shit if Edler boards himself, you see someone standing over him, you drag that shit out by the collar and hammer him, don't stand around looking for an arm up and permission.
