honestly i think 2 1sts is something you pull the trigger on immediately if it's that easy, especially in the kings' current position with the pipeline

steep pricetag but chychrun is proven imo

If it were only 2 1st for the ask, he would be traded by now.

Chychrun is gonna cost a fair bit more, being young, talented, and cost controlled for some time.

That tweet about Chychrun is now deleted...

Way to fall for that one, amigos y amigas.

Yeah I don't think anyone bought into that tweet, most of us said if that was it, it would already be done...

Then again people outside the Pacific have no idea who Chychrun is, they're three years behind on all player evals.

Moving Chychrun makes some sense for AZ. 4 more years until UFA. Figure 2-3 years in the tank the way they're looking now. That should burn up most of his contract bumping along on the bottom of the league.

If I'm AZ, hold him & see if you can turn things around before his contract is up & hope Chychrun doesn't rage quit after seeing next years roster.

Edit:

That roster is horrendous. Players will be tripping down stairs all season trying to make LTIR.

That made me LMAO for some reason. Wait til the players find out they may have to play in a building built in the 60s in a pretty bad area west of downtown Phoenix after this upcoming season. Yikes.

Some of the guys on Ari are lucky to still be getting a chance to play in the NHL. Most of them are playing for new contracts next year too.

Speaking of which, if Kempe and Petersen are ever going to show that they're important pieces of a good team, a contract year is a damn fine time to show it.

What is this obsession with trading for defense?

We are sitting really good for the foreseeable future.

Doughty - Anderson
Clarke - Bjornfoot
Claque

Is already more than extremely solid.
Then we have Faber, Grans, Kirsanov, Spence fighting for the last spot.

This doesn't even include guys like Roy and Walker.
There are many NHL teams who are jeallous of a defense corps like that.

We are also overly rich at center.
If we can trade one or two for scoring wingers, we are contenders for a long time.
Blake isn't doing bad at all.

I believe it was a masterful bit of guided misdirection by Blake.

He mentioned a while ago, I think before the trade deadline, how it would be good to have a “dynamic” LD … and the punditsphere and blogomaniacs went ballistic over it.

Since then, every LD to even hint of hitting the market or trade circuit was somehow linked to the Kings.

I’m with you on this. We are just fine for regular season play, when there rules and stuff.

Once we get past the hump with the prospects, probably then we look to upsize a bit for the playoffs. That’s still years away.

I like both Bjornfot and Anderson alot however I don't see much of a offensive upside to them. This team needs better offense from the defense which is why one will have to go. Also we need some size to clear out the slot

I don’t think it’s all that unrealistic that JC could get moved.

If you’re him, why would you want to spend your prime years there going through this rebuild?

I like how Chychrun and Eichel have both sent out tweets recently like emotionally dis-regulated preteens.
You would too if three of the six signed defensemen on your team have scored a total of 2 NHL goals in the past three NHL seasons. COMBINED. Kurtis MacDermid scored 2 NHL goals all by himself last season.

They have three forwards signed past this season, and one of them is Andrew Ladd.

This Coyotes team will be nearly unwatchable. I hope the Kings play them 20 times this season. It should improve their chances.

He would have to be blind to not know that this is what the Coyotes have been all about for the last 20 years. Plus, his millions can buy a lot of counseling and medication.

Petersen has a lot to prove. Quick was better than him last year. That's no attack on Quick but Quicks already proved himself so all the motivation should have been on him.

The reason Chychrun is appealing is the same reason Danault/Eichel are/were appealing--they represent a great player of a perfect age to bridge between the old elite players and the new.

Kopitar -> Danault -> Byfield
Doughty -> Chychrun -> Clarke

But yeah might have just been Blake hyperinflating the market too lol. Who knows. I believe he's truly looking but the prices are probably f***ing looney--as they should be. Some teams have been looking for defensemen like the above for years upon years, and if you can get a top 3 of Doughty-Chychrun-Clarke (Roy-Anderson-Bjornfot etc) you're looking like a contender.

Whilst the long term answer to the LHD question is important the drafting of Clarke does simplify things a little. Clarke offensive ability and zone entries reduce (not eliminate) the offensive requirement from that Left sided player, it now longer needs to be someone providing a bit of everything. It now becomes about the physicality and ability to eat up minutes, ironically someone like Cernak would now fit the bill quite nicely. Obviously a genuine top pairing guy with good offensive upside would still be preferable but as RJ says nobody trades away those guys. Even someone like Cernak only gets moved with overpayment.
