What the hell is up with The Athletic? There hasn't been anything new from Lisa Dillman or any Kings related content in two weeks.

Do you feel like you are missing something? I find Lisa to bring very little to the table. Her Q & A is never groundbreaking...most people on this board could answer those questions better.

If I want current or breaking news on the Kings, I think the Mayor is the best source around at this time.

Without meaning any disrespect to Lisa, I find that generally there's very little about the Kings on The Athletic that I hadn't already heard from another source. I like their prospect-related articles and other NHL coverage but I don't go there expecting to find any unique Kings news (though there's the occasional surprise). Rich Hammond began working there some time recently (can't remember exactly when). I liked him as the Insider and wondered if he might add to the Kings coverage but so far it doesn't seem like it.

The hockey writer at The Athletic who I like best is Rick Carpinello who covers the Rangers. He generally does a long post-game article for each game that offers a lot of observations and then walks through numerous significant plays of the game. It's almost too much at times but he always gives a good recap and a lot to think about. I don't see anything like that level of detail in the Kings coverage that I follow.

I enjoy the work Lisa and others do in the Athletic. It's a security blanket with additional depth of info that may be missed or not covered.

I know my bias is towards MM as I'm a contributor, but they all have different sources, info, style, and goals where there's a healthy mix of overlap and new info.

Happy birthday to Kopitar. Hard to believe he's 34. I think I've got to start mentally preparing for his eventual decline, I still go into every season expecting 20g and 60pts at the very least and don't even think twice about it. 34 is getting up there though...

Mats Sundin still had it at 37 so fingers crossed.

I think Kopi's style of play will allow him to continue to be a productive player. I don't think he has ever had a concussion and only a few miscellaneous injuries so I imagine, all things considered he should be in pretty good shape.

I probably just jinxed him though.

Kopitar got a lot of love on The Power Play today for his birthday.

1. 1,000 points in LA with his best season only being 92 points is ridiculous. Still a dominant and elite player.
2. Would have 1,300-1,400 points already if he was in Pittsburgh or Washington.
3. One of the most underrated players of ALL TIME.
4. First ballot Hall of Famer.

Kopitar is the elite of the elite, only 2 other players have won multiple Selke awards, a Cup, AND scored 1,000 points (Brind'Amour and Fedorov). Kopitar is only 1 of 2 to have multiple of both (Fedorov). I do believe before he retires he'll match Fedorov with 2 Selke wins AND 3 Cup wins.

Reverse jinx... you're all good, bud. :thumbu:

It’s a bummer that there are basically zero professional journalists following and reporting on the Kings. It has created a vacuum, which has elevated the hobby bloggers and plod casters. It’s embarrassing.

It's pretty frustrating. Eric Stephens has continued to provide excellent Ducks coverage via The Athletic through the offseason despite clearly fewer Ducks fans being on there to engage than Kings fans. That's going to change as Kings fans start to lose interest, though.

I was at that game, Staples went silent.

Yep, same here. Honestly going 100% off memory: that was sometime between Feb - April 2010 vs. the Avs, yeah? Another crappy aspect: we took a family friend-couple to that game, and it was their first-ever live hockey game ("Yeah, trust me: star players don't suffer major injuries every single game.")

Well, maybe not a cup win, but when it's all said and done he should be the only player in NHL history with 1200 points and multiple Selkes.
