Blake's shaping of the team is now starting to reveal itself. Looks like the Kings are staying true to their prior philosophy of defense first. Scoring is likely going to come from others, with Danault helping play the shutdown role. I suspect Byfield and Turcotte will stay in the AHL for most of the year, while Kupari gets a real audition. A lot of the plugs will probably get traded or waived by Jan. 2022 (e.g., Wagner, Lizzotte etc.).
This teams gonna be a complete pain in the ass to play in 3 years. We'll be like Vegas with much better Centers. We also have more than enough assets to go get that top pair lhd when the opportunity arrises.

I wonder if this means we’re more likely to move one of the top center prospects for the young LHD we’re supposedly still targeting. Either way, two veteran, proven additions to the top 6 will have a no doubt positive impact on the team. I can’t say they were the most creative solutions, but they came without losing a 1st round pick or any of our top prospects so I’ll call that a win.

now the edler signing i'm not high on

feels like a dumpster dive to do what maatta was supposedly doing
I think kings fans are going to enjoy Edler if they understand the macro impact he has. He’s old, he’s slow, he’s going to take penalties.

But, he has played some of the most difficult matchups in the league for years and has consistently churned positive results. If you can see the way he thinks the game and how he makes up for his skating, he is a hell of a veteran defenseman.

Every other canucks blueliner got killed last season… Edler won his matchups night to night.

Good price.

What are the kings lines next season?

hey minions, if you really loveeee to get my blood boiling

try to convince Blake to trade for Drouin

that would do it, and based on how you evaluate players (hmm he has 40pts on avg, he's therefore good!), i wouldn't be far off to assume you guys wouldn't hate having Drouin in LA lol

oh god

The difference between the 2014 kings and the 2023 kings will be TRUE talent in the youth. Players like Toffoli and Pearson were good, but more hard working than talented. But when we have our defensive vets supplementing our FLEET of young talent, thats when "defense" will actually equal "scoring". Blake is building a defensive team that also has talent, something Lombardi couldn't do because of his over obsession with grit.

Our roster looks much better than it did in May. Actually looking forward to training camp in September. Been a few years since I felt that way.

Danault - Faceoffs taken per zone 2020/2021

Offensive Zone - 217
Neutral Zone - 260
Defensive Zone - 430

Suzuki
OZ - 347
NZ - 234
DZ - 215

Kotkaniemi
OZ - 236
NZ - 183
DZ - 130

In contrast, all Kings' centers appear to have a fairly even distribution of zone starts, suggesting that McClellan mostly rolled the lines rather than situational deployment.

i felt worse about it when i read it was 2 years, i'm still not sure i see the need with maatta on the roster but if it pushes maatta to 7D it probably stabilizes things a bit

A guess at the opening night roster:

Iafallo - Kopitar - Arvidsson
Byfield - Danault - Kempe
Moore - Vilardi - Brown
Grundstrom - Anderson-Dolan - Lemieux
Lizotte

Anderson - Doughty
Edler - Roy
Bjornfot - Walker
Maatta

Peterson
Quick

I could also see Edler on the top pair with Walker moving to the left side with Roy. I think he’s skilled and quick enough to play his off side effectively.

Don't think they break up Iafallo - Villardi - Andersson who were really clicking at the end of the season

KK & Suzuki are 21
Danault was their only C
finding a decent C was and still is, Montreal's biggest issue
this is why Danault is the "main guy" for DZ
however, he wins your faceoffs and then does not score at ALL! The fact that he doesn't have many faceoffs in the OZ means that the coach doesn't play him much in offensive situations and they'd rather LOSE a faceoff with KK & Suzuki in the OZ then to plug in Danault

So, yes he wins you faceoffs, he's a decent Carbonneau style player (or a current comparable is Eller). If your #2C is Danault that means you're weak (and yes i get the minion argument that he's bridging (6 yrs mind you) the gap with Vilardi/Byfield).

To throw 6 yrs and 5.5m at Eller, means you'd also do it for Danault as well

6 years of Danault is completely irrational and unjustifiable for such a player plus i hear there's NMC first 3 yrs?

Bad bad deal

Overreact much? Maybe you should just wash your face and go outside.

Montreal is a team i follow very closely, i've seen almost every damn game Danault has played in Montreal

sorry if i absolutely hate this deal

i'll wash my face

Shit I completely forgot about Lias. Good point.
frk too right? as long as he's healthy, obviously. feels like they might be cool with letting the rest of the kids sit in ontario til they force their hand

i'm just not sure byfield starts the season in LA as disappointing as that might be

camp should be very interesting to say the least

iafallo-kopi-brown
kempe-danault arvidsson
vilardi-byfield-andersson
moore-JAD-AA

anderson-DD
bjorn-roy
edler-walker

has to be a trade in the works way too many bottom 6, wagner, lizz, grundstrom, lemiux and tkachyov

QB can’t go back to the AHL. It’s the OHL or the big club. I have a hard time believing they’ll send him back the Sudbury.

As for Frk, I see him far on the outside looking in. They didn’t bring him up what he was healthy at the end of the last season.

Kings are a better team today. Danault is as core piece now like it or not. Excited for next year.
I like the Danault signing but I beg the question when do the Kings start offloading some the forwards in the group that aren't going to cut it? Kings have 19-20 forwards seriously challenging for 13-14 spots
