I'm not mad at this, term is a bit longer than you'd really want but I assume he was looking for the security of a longer deal, I'm more than fine with the AAV though, welcome to LA!

If you're going with Kopitar, Eichel, and Danault, why bother keeping Byfield? Two defensive C's. Two offensive C's. For years on end. Well just move a guy to the wing. No, you're paying these guys to play C. Send Byfield to Buffalo and be done with it at that point.

I believe they will not trade for Eichel.
May be they even will trade Kopitar…

Elite defensive center, allows Kopitar to focus on his offensive game, which is better for the team.

Iaffalo - Kopitar - Arvidsson
Kempe - Danault - Vilardi
AA -Byfield - Brown
Moore - JAD - Wagner

People complaining about length of contract have a point to an extent. However, you either sit it out and continue to suck and hope that your prospects pan out which a lot don't or you go and pay the market for a proven guy who is a solid all around hockey and player and wanted to come here. This was the going rate for him and he could have told the Kings to piss off regardless because we aren't exactly a pretty date at this time.

Not a super team, but much better than last years. Now there will also be some moves of some bottom six folks that don't make the team for future picks, which in turn allows us to trade up in the draft if need be. I know there are a lot of Blake detractors out there, but I think he has done well and stayed the course. Even though you don't know what the plan is or like the plan, he knows what he wants to do and is sticking with it.

Now to find that LHD. Tons of assets, just have to find the right partner to go to the prom problem with.

Also, Danault was in top 7 in Selke voting the last 3 seasons.

2019 81 Games 12 Goals 41 Assists 53 Points +17
2020 71 Games 13 Goals 34 Assists 47 Points +18
2021 53 Games 5 goals 19 Assists 24 Points +9

He has averaged about .5 PPG for the last 6 seasons in Montreal.

Isn't that a 3rd line center who should make like $3-4 million?
maybe in pure numbers but i also think there's something to be said for a defensive center being around to take a load off kopi, byfield et al for a few seasons to help right this ship

i think there's something to general load management that he can cover that should help the team overall
