Both Sean Walker and Matt Roy are going to be off the roster before the end of next season. Roy is a very good shutdown defenseman. But Faber's ceiling is so much higher. And the dude just shuts down people at every level in every competition and is more well-rounded than any of our other shutdown defenseman.
While I agree there is a good chance the Kings will shop Walker this off-season, both he and Roy are signed for two more years AFTER this season, so just expecting them to be gone before the end of next season doesn't seem realistic, especially with Roy. He's a coaches favorite on D, to dump veteran D players if the Kings are in the hunt both this year and next for the playoffs during the year and replacing them with a kid might be a bit optimistic. Yes, none of us know how things will play out. And don't get me wrong, I really like the Kings RHD prospects, especially Faber and Clarke. Spence is playing very well too, but he still gets exposed on D and will next some more time to improve. Grans also has some solid upside and size, but his gap control needs work. Both are young though. And then we have Durzi. So it's a nice problem to have for sure.

The fact that both of them are signed for multiple years and are on cap friendly contracts makes them even more valuable trade chips on top of being RHD. Walker is a goner. He's already been replaced by Durzi who is younger and cheaper. If Clarke or Faber is a revelation in camp next season, Roy could be out by midseason just like JMFJ got replaced by Voynov.

Something like that?

I feel like you have to at least try it unless someone makes an offer you can't refuse, you know?

I mean maybe there's a Muzzin-Martinez situation where two guys are just toxic for each other and it doesn't work, but you never know otherwise. Better than selling low on Walker that's for sure.

Anyone know what's happened to Martin Chromiak? He's been outta the line up a few games now for Kingston Frontenacs. Is he on the Slovakian Olympic team, injured or something else?

Not sure Laf leaves college so soon but you’ll be seeing Helenius and Lee in Ontario next season for sure
I was hoping both would play another season before coming to play for Ontario Reign. Both are big youngsters that need the extra time to develop and I don't think the AHL is a great league for that besides the Kings have a logjam of prospects there! Unless of course the Kings trade a bunch of them for vets at the NHL TDL!!!

Its just weird to take a guy with that upside as a lottery pick and keep him in juniors because of Sean Walker.

I'm not suggesting they should or would keep him in juniors "because" of Sean Walker... I'm saying until I see a player graduate from juniors to the NHL I'm not assuming that he'll be here next season.

Hed have to have a strong camp. Its going to be really competitive next camp and I hope they dont hold anyone back because of contract status. They should just ice the best team possible.
The defense has been strange this year. Missing Walker all season and havent missed a beat. Doughty was out for a bit and they went on a winning streak. Roy was out with covid last game and they managed fine. Edler out a long time… No matter what blows they take back there they have been finding ways to hold it down.

They just keep sending him over the boards. Nobody talks about him (Sanderson gets more press even when he doesn't play), no accolades, but who do the coaches keep counting on?

Must be because Faber's so much olde... oh wait. He's actually one month younger.

Just a subtle reminder that both Byfield and Faber don't turn 20 for another 6 months.

Faber could return if he doesn’t think he’ll be in the NHL. His teammate Ryan Johnson is there as a junior.

Johnson was also drafted by Buffalo…

Where does his dad coach again…

(yes this is 100% BS)
