Next season might be the first non Covid year for a lot of these recent prospects. They’ve been cheated out of the normal minors / college experience. I could see some choosing to take an extra year before turning pro.

It’s not the worst thing from a Kings perspective. It gives you some breathing room on pro contract slots. And the existing AHL pros have a more relaxed opportunity going into a normal AHL nhl season.

I wonder if Laferriere is going to leave school and turn pro if the Kings want to sign him this year. First time I have seen him play, thought he looked solid offensively with his passing and stick work, he has a hard shot (even though he is a forward he plays the point on the PP), passing vision looked above average, skating was fine, defense could use a bit more effort. He's 20, depends on where he is physically to see if he's ready for pro hockey, but the NCAA has a lot of older guys playing too. Overall, I was impressed.
I would guess that he stays another year at Harvard. With Helenius coming over, Chromiak moving up and the possibility of Lee signing, there's no real "need" for him to sign quite yet. But you never know.
Really do like this player and hope he continues arcing in this direction.

I really liked what I have observed from Kings prospect Ben Meehan (left-hand shooting defenseman).

He is smart, good skater and very physical.

The last time I have checked we need left-hand shooting defenseman really bad…

Concur and he has a bit of snarl.

That 2020 draft could be a good one for LA and Ontario. Out of the 9 players drafted, the goalie is the only one that doesn't look halfway decent.

In my opinion 2022 draft must be goalies draft for LA.

At this draft they should select 2 goalies for sure.

Also they need to trade their surplus prospects pool for goalie prospects.

Thought he looked pretty good too. Not a smart penalty when he hit that guy up high in center ice in the 2nd period, but other than that, steady game, solid positioning. Was not really impressed with Lee, looked pretty average at everything in this game. Reminded me of a not overly active or involved bottom six AHL guy with average puck skills. Only a one game sample though. I watched him pretty closely most of the game, although I will confess I was trying to watch the Kings game and the UMass-Lowell game at the same time.

Best Player Available, then make trades later if necessary.

I also agree that the first for this year probably gets traded unless a targeted player happens to fall into our laps

Chromiak feels like he could be the forward version of our Durzi/Spence/Roy/etc. defenseman. Later round guy who unexpected develops into a well above average NHL player -- way beyond his draft spot.
Chromiak fell a lot further than anyone expected. Most had him 2nd/3rd round, with SB Nation having him late 1st. Sooo glad he fell to us.

I'm glad he's already signed, too. Turns 20 August 20th 1 day younger than Byfield, his bday is August 19th.

Watching all the college games at this stage where most of the teams are really competitive is fun, and Faber still stands out amongst giants.

Frozen Four is gonna be a hoot.

Don't pay attention to NCAA hockey much looks like Minnesota St.'s a good team. If Faber and the Gofers can get pass them and Michigan can beat Denver that would be a freakin fantastic finals in regards to watching all these top end prospects. Michigan might just be too much but really hoping for a Michigan-Minnesota finals. Did they play each other this year?

Yep. Split the season series 2-2, then Michigan beat Minnesota in the Big Ten Championship.

It was more like 1-2-1 for Minnesota as one of the wins was a 3 on 3 (4 on 3 cuz of a penalty in regulation) win which would not happen in the playoffs.

All four teams are very good. Michigan is the favorite but any of the four could win. Minnesota is an underdog in the Minnesota State game, too.

Chromiak looks a lot bigger than when he was drafted, for sure. I always thought of him as a quicker version of Matt Luff, with the sniping skills and all. That's not an insult at all, if Luff had better skating he'd have 20g upside.

Nice to see him expand his game a little, it's always hit or miss if snipers in Junior are going to translate. When they start going to the net and scoring in a variety of ways it starts to look a whole lot more promising.

Maybe another Kaliyev in the making?
