I just think he had no future in LA.

Faber and Clarke are on the way. A few other dmen too. Spence etc.

I wonder if they even tried to trade him?

How far away are they, though, and would you even trust this org to deploy them? They'd put Clarke next to Maatta then send him down when a pass gets picked off.

Also--Faber, Clarke, Spence -- RHD. Only other LHDs really 'on the way' even possibly are Moverare, Nousiainen (long shot due to size with this org), and Kirsanov (Russian so LOL hello AHL for life). Edit: and Ben Meehan who I do like buuuut that's not exactly a next year thing. Edit Edit: AND Brayden Doyle

Blake is like Fredo on The Godfather. He thinks he’s something that he’s not.

And let’s be honest here, how much you wanna bet there are more than a few kids not seeing NHL time playing in Ontario that are envious of Clague?

It’s criminally insane that Turcotte has had NHL time yet.

Blake and his brain dead coach buddy can f*** right off.

Yeah the only thing worse than being so stupid is to be so stupid AND have an ego

Why even hire an analytics department, these guys should be quitting en masse

i don't even know if it's malicious, it might just be a complete refusal to admit mistakes

can't admit you were wrong about tkachev, gotta keep him buried and call up tynan to divert
can't admit you were wrong about maatta, waive clague and go "ohhhh noooo how unlucky"

it all just stinks of diversion away from owning your bad calls. there's gonna be some f***in carnage in the wake if blake's allowed to keep this up for much longer

It's just insulting as f*** if you're Turcotte/Vilardi/Tkachev to be so close and deserve another shot to be passed up by a f***ing 29 year old AHL lifer

And this is why we have no faith in these guys' ability to understand when a player is NHL-ready or not. When Gabe Vilardi ends up on another team and you know it's going to happen once they sell him for peanuts, he's going to do well over there on someone else's wing. Has Hoven released his spin on it yet? I swear if this is money related to save a few bucks by keeping Maatta it will only underscore why the team is as mediocre as they are. Letting contract status decide who should be playing over actual talent.

not even like they're giving him the cup of tea as a thanks for serving the org, the guy got that cup with the avs and he washed out. like i'm happy he's performing in the A for us but he means nothing to me, and he's not a long term solution so what the f***?

ridiculous all around

Note and food for thought....and maybe neither here nor there but-

After this season....Clague would have been as RFA, Matta will be a UFA.

Between the two opens up roughly 5 million in cap space and 2 roster spots going into 22/23.

Weird to give up on Clague for sure and seems bad waste of assets and no team would have traded a 5th or 6th rder for him? Just thinking maybe there is something here in bigger picture they are trying to achieve?

At surface level though- does look a lot like Blake unwilling to admit trading for Maata was bad in the first and doubling down on it.

I really liked him at draft. What you think about his potential and what comparison do you make with him with another NHL defenseman?

Every time I read that a superior talent is being sent to the AHL because they are not waiver eligible I just roll my eyes. Just continue to stock the NHL roster with mediocre veterans with zero upside on 1 and 2 year deals. Show some damn courage and jettison those bridge vets and buy into your kids.

i'd like to believe there's a bigger picture but i think i've lost that faith at this point

i think there are 100% better routes here but perhaps ego is getting in the way

Hoven:UPDATE:
Blake Lizotte was placed in protocol on Saturday morning. As a result, add Jaret Anderson-Dolan to the list of call-ups. He will join Tyana and the Kings on today’s flight to Edmonton.

JAD had better be perfect and score 2 goals, 1 assist on the roadtrip, if he wants to have a shot at staying. ..but watch, Tynan gets the start. Wish Lemieux was back. Would like to see Grundstrom JAD Lemieux.

there's the chickenshit take you were expecting

ignore the maatta vs clague asset maximization question, default to "no room wahh"

Clague was good to excellent, while Drew was out...think was on the ice for 3 ES goals all month. He was activating and skating the puck well on the PP, but really needed maybe 3 PP points to solidify his standing. I bet he does well in MTL. Bet he outscores all King defensemen not named DD and is not a liability there. At all.

Yep because typically when you have something of value in surplus the first thing you should do is put a sign "FREE" on it and leave it on your sidewalk. That's what people who are good with money do right?

just because there is no room does not mean we give clague away for free.

We all knew he wasn't going to clear waivers so trade him for a pick... anything.

Who's gonna take his contract if he was waived? Nobody, then he goes where , back to the AHL to pay him 4 mil? That's not saving money at all . We all know he sucks , but we're stuck with him, and really Clague lost his job to Durzi.

Why is everyone tripping out over Clague and claiming shit like dumb asset management?

He literally just cleared waivers 2 months ago. No one wanted him at the time. We would’ve got nothing for him in a trade…

There’s also no room for him in Ontario. Time to move on. Best of luck to Clague…

If there is no room, why is Maatta still here?

Pretty sure Blake is after a high profile player. Rumors on Pacioretty, Eichle, Laine, Dubois over the last few years. After repeated strikeouts & Blake getting more desperate does he overpay to get a gamechanger?
