Speculation: 2021-21 LA Kings News, Rumors, Roster discussion part V

We are swimming in prospects and we are bringing up an AHL journeyman, this organization is ridiculous

I doubt this is any more than a short-term reward. Keep him on the roster a while so he can collect an NHL paycheck for a while. The plan was to send Vilardi down for a couple weeks, IIRC, but that ice fiasco last weekend probably set that back a bit.

Still kind of a weird move. Sort of reeks of an upcoming trade to me.

Looking back from the 2014 to 2019 drafts, I think we've been ok. I have to dig it up, but we're one of the better NHL teams in turning picks into players.

I guess the argument is that we can only churn out meat-and-potatoes players. But as my coach always said, you can't make chicken salad out of chicken shit. If you want talent, you have to draft it - generally in the first round. After Kempe in 2014, we haven't had any first-round picks until Vilardi in 2017 . Note that 3 out of our 4 top draft picks between 2017 and 2018 lost significant time to injury which has delayed development. Add seasons truncated by COVID and picks made under Blake's reign are just bearing fruit.

So am I arguing our development staff is the right one for the job? No - I'm saying we really don't know yet, but we're about to find out.

I'm surprised Kempe is where he's at given the crap development we have.

Jesus titty f***ing christ.

Yep, pass up the 100 forward prospects and call up the 29 year old.

Sadly that brings down the age of the top six, as well.

At this point that may not be a bad thing. Keep the kids far away from this shit show. Rather them play in ONT than on the rotating 4th line/bench.

Plus at least they stand up for each other in ONT.

I honestly think they are trying to develop the prospects in the AHL. They want them to get reps and develop chemistry.

Tynan may be lucky to get in a game. They don’t want Turcotte sitting around not playing. AA is back now too.

This isn’t the year we see the bulk of guys slot in. Next year the spots will be there. Is what it is.

Kings are currently 5 out from the sharks for a wild card as bad as it has been. The season isn’t done yet even tho we all know how bad it looks.

Not done today, but will be by Jan 1st -- here's the schedule for the rest of the month:

12/5 - EDM
12/6 - VAN
12/9 - DAL
12/11 - MIN
12/14 - TBL
12/16 - FLA
12/18 - CAR
12/19 - WSH
12/22 - EDM
12/23 - VGK
12/27 - ARI
12/28 - VGK
12/30 - VAN

I would bet that puts us 6-7 games under .500 by the start of the new year.

this has to be the plan, there is no other reasoning that makes sense , there are 2 game s in the next 4 days where they will get 15-20 mins for ont. instead of watching mcdavid skate circles around our top six ......... akil thomas is skating again and was playing pretty well last year , hopefully he gets a cup of coffee before the year is out , plays hard and is tough

Does anyone have our record with Doughty in the lineup? I can't remember a win after the first game.

Flames in first place of the WC, AEG looks like geniuses for sticking a gun to DL’s head to fire Sutter or they both go.
But many were saying the same things about the group then. Not enough youth, game had changed, need skill and speed. Sutter is a grinder with a shelf life. Still love him but it didn’t look good around the time.

I still wish DL had a chance to reset the team. He may have been able to adapt.

I’m still on the fence with him. Could thrive or not stick. Will be interesting to see how it plays out. Glad for him tho. Take the chance and run with it.

You know who is doing neither? Olli Maatta and Christian Wolanin.

Happy for him to be freed from arbitrary Todd Mclellan jail, but this is the worst move we've made since DL.

I thinks odds favor your point. I like Clague. No justification for Maatta over him. I did think he’d be gone in expansion tho. The Kings just didn’t seem to have any faith in him.

It’s just incompetent management. Bottom line. If they were thinking he wasn’t going to work out deal him for a 4th for Christ’s sake.

It's just confirmation that everyone else saw the same thing a lot of us did, you put a guy in a position to succeed and he does, but whatever stupid ass arbitrary biases Blake/TM have towards this kid superseded logic, advanced stats, AND the eye test. It's just utterly incomprehensible.

just plagiarizing myself from the main thread:

"Officially done with Blake, whole LA organization needs to burn down the offices and start over. They have repeatedly prioritized Maatta > Wolanin > Clague despite CLEAR evidence to the contrary.

Congrats MTL, you're getting a better-than-advertised two way guy who can really skate and move the puck well. Weaker than average in his own zone, but not a liability, especially with a good partner (away from Maatta this year he was over 50% CF% and GF%, not a small feat on the Kings who have been trying to sabotage him at every turn). When he builds some confidence he's an absolute force. Wouldn't be surprised to see him a long term mainstay #3-4 guy. Hope he's putting up 40 and making us look stupid for years. Rises to challenges--last year when Roy and Walker went down he jumped in as the key #3 guy on the 2nd pairing (behind Doughty-Anderson) and absolutely ripped it up despite having Kurtis f***ing MacDermid as a partner.

Put him in a position to rise to a challenge and succeed and we'll see a thread later this year mocking LA for this horrendous asset management. But hey, at least Olli Maatta will still be feeding the opposition passes. f*** this dumb ass organization. "

And that's really the thing--no faith, confidence. Why? What the hell was their deal with him? Unfortunately our nutless media won't hold them to the fire either. Canadian media would be absolutely RAKING them for this and I'm sure we'll see plenty of it today, and later when he's doing well for MTL.

I'm sorry but I'm furious. Yeah, he's basically a 'middle child' prospect--nothing SPECIAL--but that's exactly the problem. Guy with good pedigree and good skillset doesn't please the masters for some reason and instead of getting value they tank him, vote no confidence in him, and give him up for free. It's VERY clear this organization cannot think creatively about development and utilization and guys that don't fit nicely into their square pegs are useless.

I'm sorry I ever stuck up for Blake and thought him competent. It's clear he cannot handle 'the hard part.' Already.

jesus f***ing christ he got claimed?

horrible asset management, yeah that's it for blake from me too

poor f***in kid gets jerked around like that for years then lost for nothing
