It seems bad timing as Durzi does deserve a shot, but Clague is now at 11 games. He will have to clear waivers now, right?

No, the rule is you can avoid waivers within 30 days of being sent down. They keep sending him down and bringing him back a day later specifically in order to avoid this and keep resetting the 30 day clock. Which is kind of a bullshit move to keep doing to him IMO because it docks his pay every time just so that the team can circumvent just keeping him on the f***ing roster.

So the 11 games don’t matter?

Management and coaches need to have a come to McDavid meeting. The conclusion calls for doing the right thing and doing it now.
For the best of the team and future.

Sit Brown out and waive Maatta. Get Clague back in and play him with Drew. I think Clague would excel there and surprise to the upside. Durzi needs to go back and work on his D game.

Need to sit Brown down and see how he wants to gracefully end a great career.

Why did they hire 5 front office staff, MIT and Harvard grads, uber analytics geniuses, a baseball guy, data experts.....and what do they do with their reports and data?
You don't need all of that to see that Brown and Maatta are detrimental at all facets of the game, by eye test, or any metrics.

Rebuilds are about identifying which players are failing and not part of the future and removing them. Immediately. Then replacing them with players ready
for promotion. Players ready to play now: JAD, Grundstrom, Clague. AA back in a week or 2. Byfield in 3-4 weeks. By January, any of: Turcotte, Vilardi, Fagemo, Tkachev. Frk even.
It seems when AA and Byfield are ready, there will be way too many forwards. Andersson needs a permanent spot as well. He's not a bubble player. He created more offense in under
10 minutes, than Iafallo, Moore, Danault, Kupari, Brown, have created in their past 4 games. If Byfield and Andersson take spots, that leaves several bubble players: Kaliyev, Kupari,
Brown, Grundstrom. In reality, AA and Moore are close to bubble players. The problem is, Brown should be first to go, but will end up playing 13 minutes and other more capable
players get screwed.

What does the metrics say about putting Durzi, Clague, Kaliyev on the PP.

I don't think we're a playoff team until we add a legit top 2/4 defensemen at this point.

Even with the injuries to Doughty and Walker we were so-so to begin with.

I'd be looking at guys like Sergachev, Romanov, Dunn, Cernak, Zadorov in the off-season. Maybe even offer Brayden McNabb a contract to replace Edler?

I’d love any of those but unless we trade for them we ain’t getting them… as is, we’re looking at the same guys plus Brandt and maybe Faber getting a long look..
Anderson - Doughty
Bjornfot - Brandt
Walker - Roy
Moverare- Faber
Clague( if he isn’t traded)
Strand
Durzi

With the abundance of forwards we have I'd package a Kupari/Madden/AA/Vilardi/etc for a legit top 2/4 D.

Guys like JAD, Turcotte, and Tkachev should realistically be on the NHL roster we just have no open spots.

If you land the big fish in Sergachev have him play with Doughty.

Sergachev-Doughty
Anderson-Clarke
Bjornfot-Roy
*Walker

or if you end up getting one of the #3/4 guys like Romanov or Dunn bump them down to the 2nd pairing to play with Roy/Clarke

Anderson-Doughty
Romanov/Dunn-Roy
Bjornfot-Clarke
*Walker

Not sure if I had the convo with you about the TBL needing depth to extend their championship window and iOS theh won’t be able to afford Sergachev and Cernak..
I’m thinking
2022 1st, Kempe, JAD, Walker, Roy, Durzi and Madden in some sort of a 3 player + 1st combo .. guys I think are expendable really, i’d resign Edler to Mentor Brandt and keep Bjornfot- Anderson together..

Sergachev - Doughty
Bjornfot - Anderson
Edler - Brandt
Maatta :sarcasm:

Dang. I was really impressed with Sean Durzi. Kid looks like a beast out there. I can see him anchoring that second pair with Edler or Anderson. Kid just needs to learn a little bit more in the D zone and he's got it. Play out the rest of the year in Ontario.

Zadorov no thank you. Does not belong on that last.

could Vilardi get LA Romanov?

Anyone else want to see Bjornfot with Drew for a bit?

That would be fine, but I'd honestly like to see Maatta waived and Clague play fulltime. And try him with Drew.
Why not? Clague has turned a corner and 80% better defensively than Durzi. He's really not a liability any more
and has more upside. I think Drew could help get the best out of him and more offense.

The only reason I'm not sure I like Clague with Drew would be Drew becomes the stay at home guy, we've seen it before. With Mikey he at least is 'normal Drew.' I'm not against it, and I think he's got the IQ for it, but not sure he's got the body/consistency for the minutes (not that TB does at this stage but he's 20).

I could get on board with Clague but there are other pairings I would want to try first. Especially with the minutes that player would be required to put out. May work good in the 1st but how does it look in the 3rd?

100% Maatta's days should be numbered. As soon as Drew is back Maatta should be waived.

Lmao

IIRC this is exactly what I predicted, gonna go look it up

Edit: I was close:

"Brown will stay in the lineup, Kupari/Kaliyev will get benched, Andersson will probably get pushed down to the 4th line or some shit and the world will keep spinning as usual"

"What I"m willing to bet happens:

1. Brown stays on line 1-2.
2. Kopitar 20+ minutes next game.
3. ...including PK time.
4. See I can see him scratching Kupari, but I think he'll move Andersson/Kempe to C or something rather than put yet another kid in the lineup.
5. Not a chance in hell. [re: scratching Maatta]

Any takers on I get at least 4/5? Only one I'm not fully confident about is #4. "

Hooray Grundstrom at least. Moore appears to have the same plot armor as Brown for now, too. But at least Moore works his tail off, even when he's struggling.

The talent level is not ideal and the roster leaves a lot to be desired, but I think this is the closest to what I think represents the “deepest lineup” the Kings are ready to ice. Assuming Doughty is back soon, I’d be curious to see what the team can do over the next couple of weeks if they go with this deployment and spread out ice time.

Iafallo Kopitar Brown
Tkachev Danault Arvidsson
Moore Kempe Athanasiou
Lemieux Lizotte Grundstrom (or Andersson/Kupari)

Bjornfot Doughty
Clague Roy
Anderson Edler
Maata only if there is an injury/ COVID casualty and then call up and play Durzi

Let Quick and Petersen rotate.

I think Kaliyev can get better minutes and role in the AHL at this point.

You think all we need is a top 4 defenseman to be a playoff team?
