lol, what kind of validation are you looking for? My thoughts TODAY are pretty much the same as they've been the last 5 years of Kings hockey...not that interested. You guys can bitch and whine all you want despite the results, but when this team is winning and looking good doing it (the 7-game win streak), I'm on the f***ing train all day long. I'll save my depression for days like this when my optimism levels are low.

But again, if we want to look at the positives, they've really only had one stinker in the last 5 games and you guys make it sound like it's the past 3 years all over again...it's not. but you guys are experts because you spend your life on an internet board arguing your points, so you win.

We are only a quarter a way through the season, this is a better team than last year. They aren't supposed to be a playoff team, they are supposed to improve. Long way to go...
Hate to break it to you but you are on an internet message board arguing your points also…
Also they went out and got guys like arvi and danult and are spending to the cap. I think they are expecting playoffs not just improvement.

Of course they are, you don’t sell tickets by being ‘realistic’ and claiming you suck. Pretty sure they all thought they were a playoff team last year too.

Yes Zegras and Drysdale are getting opportunities. Those guys are also studs. I remember advocating trading Turcotte for Drysdale and got roasted for it. Kupari isn’t going to be a game breaker. Kaliyev is slow as f***. He will be lucky to be Toffoli. He is actually up sooner than I thought. Both are good compliments to teams. Kings will need Kaliyev to keep improving. I do think he should be the Ovi point man on the PP this year to get those reps.

Your ticket sales also drop by setting expectations for a product and failing to deliver year after year.

Right now, yes, they are technically better and younger than they were at this time last year. But it's like bragging you no longer get salmonella from eating the chicken. It's true, but is that the standard to be proud of?

Not looking for validation at all, I can appreciate this. Not you but I remember distinctly hearing "here's a metric for you: winning" as if it was a mic drop and now its like :dunno: just want to know what those feelings are when we aren't on a fluky streak.

To be fair I DID say I was going to be a little bitch about that.

It sucks because that winning streak WAS so positive with so many positive signs. And there were positive signs to be had in these last losses, too--but we are far past moral victories if we're playing high paid vets 40 min a night. That's my main compliant at this point. 'progress' right into the black hole without integrating our main youth, and while trying lineups that are the definition of insanity. Actually, earlier I said I don't know better than the pros--I think ANYONE knows better than to play Maatta - Durzi together...

This is the point when I alway hate that our media coverage people are too nice. Wish someone would ask why does Brown get a promotion or Maatta in over Clague when we need offense from the backend. Or what benefit does it have to bury Kaliyev on the 4th line and not send him back to AHL.

Feel our reporters and bloggers are too close to the players to hurt their feelings.

There is no media holding the team accountable, it is actually a problem. Half of them work for the team and Hoven/Bernstein are basically extensions of the Kings PR arm.

Forthcoming Feature Story on the Kings development staff:

We have had to omit the names, as they were going off record and did not want to reveal the lunacy they are forced to be teaching the young players.

dev pro 1 : "the entire process, it's much like breaking down the confidence, natural talents and abilities these young kids come in here with. We need to break them of any
individuality and the psyche they had of the prior successes they achieved - much of it, without ever being Reigned in or knowing a system. It's all about systems
and learning them, knowing them and executing them. The systems, while rigid, will form the foundation of being able to succeed and move on to the Kings.
If you are lucky enough to get that cup of coffee, you will skate a few days with the Kings. It's an eye opening experience. You will be told you may get to play a game,
but then again, you may be sent back to the Reign. But, you had the chance to be in a few practices. Management sees it as a great step. Todd may even talk to you.
Now, if you are lucky to dress for a game, you'll be lining up with Blake Lizotte. He's a cycle master. By now, you've learned to cycle as your number 1 skill, having
done this with the Reign. Just stay with the system, it's beautiful and works. Get pucks deep and don't do anything reckless, or unstructured, like skating to the net,
or taking pucks to the slot and looking for a dangerous chance. This is only for lines 1 and 2 and even though they do not do that, it's allowed for them to do.
So, get pucks deep, don't attempt any shot. These NHL goalies are tough to beat. We've found if you take a few shots, the result is that the goalie stops the puck and
gives it to a defenseman and we've lost puck possession. Remember, it's all about puck possession. if we have the puck, the other team doesn't. Cycle, cycle, cycle.
The 3 C's. Even though it's 1 C. Backcheck, once the cycling ends. It always ends. But, if we held the puck deep for 15 seconds, you've succeeded.
lately, we noticed that Lizotte is deviating from the cycle and trying to make plays. Even takes a shot now and then. We're going to have to sit down with him
and see what got into his mind to play like that. We have watched tapes and identified that Brendan Lemieux may be behind this. He was not trained by our
staff and he's going out there and going to the net, getting into dangerous areas and trying to score. We think he's been talking to Blake outside of the facility
and inspiring him to play like he did in college. It may be best to split them up. Todd is adept at breaking up lines that show any individuality or offensive
success. JAD was getting out of control last year on a line 4, with Moore and Grundstrom. They were making plays and scoring a few. They were getting
away from the cycle game. And where is JAD now? With the Reign. You know why we chose the name Reign? Most think it was Reign, as in Royalty or
Kingly. No. It was chosen that we 'reign players in, from their individuality'. Beautiful. huh?

This offseason, the staff put together a training video. We put a lot of work into it. We have over 30 minutes of footage, of players like Kaprizov,
McDavid, MacKinnon, Makr and other's that do not play the way we want anyone here playing. It's pretty horrific, the way these players
use their skills and abilities, to forego systems and often go it alone on the ice, making dangerous plays, dangerous passes, using too much
creativity. They do not always succeed, for that matter. Reckless, East-West skating is also some of the bad habits, they are utilizing.
The staff would be challenged to Reign in such players. Thankfully, these type of players will never play for us. It would also not be good for
culture to have any players like that. It may make the other players feel less useful. We consider that so many Kings went through arduous
regimented training, to play the way they do now. And it would not be fair to have a player like Aho, that uses individual skill for his success,
never have to have gone through our extensive training.

Those that cover the team are very insecure. They want to hang out with the cool kids and are afraid to rock boats. They remind us of their “friendships” all of the time. It’s cringy.

The “mayor” tries to use their nicknames when asking questions. It’s a cringeworthy douche fest. For some weird reason they let him ask the players questions along with the other real reporters. He was asking Byfield some dumb question and he kept crow-barring in his nick name. “Hey QB how’s it going today?” then proceeds to ask some softball question that doesn’t require any kind of real answer, “ok thanks QB.”

YUCK.

who was the lady (Helene, not Helen or was it Lisa Dillman, or someone else) that called out Carter after the final game of a season, a few years ago: asked Carter straight up " are you going to retire?"
And he looks at her and says "no, I have 3 years left on my contract" I was floored she asked that. You could not see her and not sure who it was. Basically calling him out that he should retire...or people
are thinking he should, as evidenced by his piss-poor dialing it in , play

OK, yeah it’s sarcasm but you’d never know that watching this organization operate with the great talent they’ve accrued.

No self respecting member of the media should refer to the head coach of the team they cover as “The Toddfather”

Why is Brown still playing?

The same reason Blake signed Kovy and Danault. He cannot accept a full Ottawa/Anaheim type rebuild.

Look at Ducks lines from the other day and the age distribution. Every line has one young player - hell, even the third line has two. I guess the 4th line is a bit older, with the ages being 29, 30 and 31 to Carrick, Des, and Grant but they have also have injured younger players.

Now compare to the Kings with guys like Kopitar, Brown, Arvidson, Danault, Iaffalo, and Kempe hogging the top 6 minutes. And the third line? Don't even get me started. Trevor Moore has 1 goal.

I wouldn't be a lot less upset if they were performing, but Brown and Maatta are literally the worst players on the roster--on multiple occasions they've LITERALLY handed the puck to the opposing team for a goal, and Kopitar is what, -9 this month?

It's easy to see with the eye test AND the abysmal advanced stats--anyone you attach those two to completely falls apart and that and the PP are actually actively losing us games we outplay opponents in.

It's disgusting (mis)management especially when you have capable talent at arms length. A guy like Grundstrom, for example isn't a prospect anymore, he should easily play over Brown.

Even as a guy that loves Dustin he needs time off. Let him play half the game this year or something as his swan song but he clearly cannot handle top NHL minutes in any fashion at this point.

Maatta...drop his body in the ocean for all I care, but he's the same.

Almost everyone else at least has a case/argument even if I don't particularly like the youth's usage.

Ryan Getzlaf is centering their top line.

If I was in charge I'd roll -

Brown - Kopitar - Kaliyev
Iafallo - Danault - Kempe
Tkachev - Vilardi - Andersson
Lemieux - JAD - Arvidsson

With Kupari and Athanasiou rotating in and out of the line-up.

But I am not in charge. :)

This has been evident the past 4 or 5 games (Maatta's entire season) but tonight against Ottawa it has become glaringly obvious. It's getting cringe-worthy at this point.

How long of a leash is TMac going to give Brown?

12 minutes. And that’s a fine amount all things considered.

Just saying, those guys have had opportunities prior to this year. Not exactly the same as Kaliyevs situation.

Zegras is special and the Ducks have that need at 2C.

So you're saying that guys UNDER 24 should be in the top 6 as well?

Sounds like we're agreeing.
