If Perron goes unsigned, Tarasenko is still here, and there’s no upgrade on LHD (re-signing Leddy does NOT count), then Army will get an “F” this off-season. But, lots of time left. Still have faith.

I still have a feeling there's a trade brewing. Maybe something happens after the signing bonuses go through? Have someone pay a oh f*** premium after a UFA signs with another team? The off-season is a long stretch of time. We're not going to be able to trade anything until about 1/2 way through the season.

Why do people want Tarasenko gone? I get it, kind of, if we are going to do something with that cap. But it seems like people want him gone just to have him gone. If we are not going to do anything with the money, then we should want him NOT to be traded. If Perron goes unsigned and we don't upgrade LHD, then we better at least keep our leading point producer from last year.

His cap space needs to be used on LHD. We can’t go into next year with status quo on D and minus our #1 PP threat. That would be an off-season failure. I’m fine if we keep Tarasenko and upgrade LHD - just not sure if that can be done.

Not necessarily if we are letting Perron walk and moving Scandella. But you said if these 3 things happen, Armstrong gets and F-. That implies that if only two of them happen he gets a better grade. So he would get a better grade if we trade Tarasenko, but still let Perron walk and fail to upgrade at LD. That is what is weird to me.

Ah, to clarify then, my hypothetical “F” grade is not limited just to that specific scenario - that is simply the one that I wanted to grade, as I can see it happening.

If we let Perron walk, keep Tarasenko for this year, then let him walk, that means Army is going to make a hard run at MT next off season.

we just can’t afford to spend the assets on MT this year. We need every asset we have going forward with ROR being a FA next year and an aging Schenn.

our core in 2024 would be Schenn, MT, Thomas, Kyrou, Buchnevich, Neighbors, Bolduc

Given where the market is right now, thinking we shouldn't sign anyone tomorrow unless we can get goalie (Comrie?) at reasonable price. When music stops and not many available chairs, we can sign bottom 6 guys for low money deals.
I'm not really expecting any surprises tomorrow. In fact, the most we might see are announcements of extensions for guys like ROR, Thomas and Kyrou who will be eligible to extend at 11:00 AM tomorrow. I'm hoping for all three but I'm not going to hold my breath. I wouldn't expect a "hockey trade" until some of the UFA pieces are off the board and prices start coming into focus. Then again, Army is due for a surprise trade/signing so who knows.

It would surprise me if the Blues extended any of those 3 tomorrow - I see DA waiting until next off-season.

That's what I see happening as well. I don't see much out there that makes sense other than depth signings. Any major moves will be trades.

Looking forward to taking part in the forum freakout when the Blues don't do anything for 48 hours. :D

There's no chance those guys are getting extended tomorrow.

Im hoping we don't do something stupid for Zadorov or Chiarot. If we let Perron walk we have the cap space to upgrade LD, im just hoping its an actual upgrade.

I actually like Zadorov quite a bit, but as a lower-pairing guy - not at a price that hurts the team in other ways or prevents them from making better moves.

Kevin Weekes suggested the Blues as a surprise team in the Gaudreau sweepstakes on the Spittin' Chicklets pod today.

That would be a shocker to say the least.

Isn't he a pretty decent skater for his size and pretty skillful with the puck, but he just makes bad reads? I wouldn't completely hate it if we signed him, it would completely depend on his contract, the role we plan to have him in, and what we do with other defensemen.

This is a lot of ifs, but if we move Krug and Scandella, extend Leddy, sign Zads to a reasonable contract, and Perunovich is the 3rd pairing guy, I wouldn't hate that group. I wouldn't love it, but we potentially clean up some of the cap issues and there's some potential here.

I'm not sure I see a realistic scenario where I'm happy with a defensive core that has Zadorov in it, similar to if we signed Chiarot, but there probably are scenarios where I'd be fine with either one.

I'm intrigued by which young AHLer steps up into a 4th line role this season. Could McGing, Alexandrov, or even Bitten get their way into the lineup.

It's weird. He seems like he should be an all-around player, but I feel like he has been at his best in his career when he got shutdown assignments he could really focus on. Maybe the advanced stats don't back that up. But my read is that he has the tools to contribute, but will suffer somewhat when he's not given a specific role.

It's hard for me to fully grasp players on Calgary because they rely so much on that top line and everybody else on the team just whacks the puck around the boards and flings it on net. And before that, he was with Chicago and Colorado when they were bad. That's a lot of shifting expectations, especially through covid seasons.

So it's possible he's not a fit at all, but I don't think he's a bad option. Probably going to get paid more than he's worth, though.

Also, Chiarot just straight up sucks. No interest at all.

I'm just going with a glass half full approach. I wasn't the biggest fan of Leddy, but was more optimistic than most here and he worked out. Assuming we don't enter the season with the exact group we currently have signed + the RFAs, I'll be that same glass half full, and cautiously optimistic.

Chiarot would have to be at a point so cheap where it would never happen for me to be on board with it. I do think Army understands the issue where we can't keep extending guys with term when Thomas and Kyrou are getting big deals soon.
