Everything Strickland has said lately and his tweets this morning make it sound like a Tarasenko deal isn't happening and was never really that serious this summer. I'll be curious what Army does at LD, without a Tarasenko trade, we probably aren't looking at some of the pricier options like Provorov.

And haven't really seen anything about Leddy. Which is sort of odd, since Strickland has reported that Lindgren is expected to go to the market, so it's not like Blues news has been limited to Perron and Tarasenko.

Walking away from Perron does free up cap space for a LHD. Not as much as Tarasenko, but....

Right now, we have ~$9M to sign 5 players. Of those 5, Perunovich and Mikkola are 2 of them. With both of them included, we'd have 7 NHL signed dmen, with Rosen making the 8th. Another one of the 5 could just be Neighbours. Then we are probably looking at decent investments in a backup goalie, and I'd imagine a vet 4th liner that can be relied on.

I think we need to see one of the defensemen moved because it's just a numbers game at this point, Mikkola or Scandella has to be upgraded. That to me is the best indication that more is coming.

Mikkola is solid cheap depth, moving him really does nothing for us cap-wise. I am more comfortable with him on the bottom pair than I would be Perunovich or Bortuzzo at this point.

The Blues have got to get Scandella off this team. 3.25M for a guy that doesn’t really add anything is killer. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like we’ll be able to do that.

Moving Scandella would be the key move, it opens up enough cap where Army could at least keep Leddy and get the backup he wants to make sure we have insurance if Binnington isn't fully back. The problem is, like you said, if he was easy to move, he would've been moved by now, but maybe we're wrong.

Perunovich can start in the minors, so that's still an option, but he has just 37 games left of being exempt from waivers, so it would just be kicking the can down the road a bit longer.

Dakota Joshua is more than free to play elsewhere. It's not like he is going to be part of generating scoring chances, and other muckers exist. Borderline AHLer/NHLer to begin with

No reason for Army not to sign Perron to a deal; so long as he doesn't give him a full NTC or NMC he can trade him in a year if he needed to. It's better to have the assets than not; even if he gave him a fair-market deal (no home town discount), you'd think other teams would give something, when inevitably somebody goes on LTIR or scoring-woes result in other GMs calling about DArmy's depth.

Tarasenko's ass better be moving in the next couple of days...no excuse for keeping him around any longer.

Apparently Kevin Weekes said on Chiclets that we are a dark horse for Gaudreau. That would be awesome but I just don’t see a way we could come remotely close to making that work.
So we don't have the cap to sign Perron but we can sign Gaudreau for 9.5 mil plus. Sometimes these National guys just throw out random ass teams

If it wasn't Weekes, who has been very tuned-in and accurate over the past couple of cycles, I'd have disregarded this notion immediately as making less than zero sense for STL.
If Gaudreau is walking from $9.5M x 8-yrs from Calgary, no way in hell would the Blues provide the winning bid.

Okay so I went back and re-watched the clip. He said what about us if we can move some cap. So after listening again it sounds like more spitballing than anything else.

As far as the contract goes, I think if he leaves it won’t be because of money. Calgary is reportedly willing to go to 11 million AAV. I think this is a case of the player wanted to play somewhere else rather than an issue of money.

I'm assuming his line of thinking is that we are still going to move Tarasenko, and Perron walks, so we suddenly have some cap to spend and need for a forward. Not Gaudreau, but I do think it's a semi reasonable scenario where both go and we have interest in a top 6 forward.

That would be gross. He does not fit what we need at all.

Not really interested in Johnny “Hockey”. He seems too erratic for the kind of salary he would be coming in at.
