With Bolduc and Snuggerud specifically earmarked for PP duties because of their shot, it sure feels like the organization is bracing for the loss of Perron and Tarasenko over the near horizon.

Nah, they've already stated they are picking best player available.

DA only seems to strike out of nowhere if you rely on JR to point what he will do. If you try to think like he does, his moves are far less unpredictable. ROR, Saad, Buchy, Leddy were all guys that were easy to envision us acquiring. If we deal for Sanheim or Provo, that will be very DA move too.
True to a degree. The EJ trade shocked me.

I think Army's had some very predictable moves thrown in there too. Ryan Miller and Jay Bouwmeester in particular. I see the Blues adding Tkachuk in free agency as a similar move to those where it just seems like the writing is on the wall.

I was looking at an article speculating on free agent landing spots. On Perron, they said he was almost definitely going to free-agency. They cited a JR Athletic article. I found the article. I must have missed it. Apparently the Blues lowballed Perron with a 2 year deal. This was reported in mid-June. 4 days ago, JR said that Perron's agent told him there had been good progress. So it looks like there is still a chance. However, having seen this, there is more of a chance he might walk than I first suspected.

Anyone who was hoping he'd take whatever ridiculously friendly deal the Blues threw at him is also mistaken. The Athletics's model projects his market value at $8M+ and an advanced site called Evolving-hockey that JR quoted projected his next contract to be 3x$6.1. As much as I hate to admit it as I really like and want to keep Perron, that might be difficult for us to fit in.

I really wouldn't be surprised if we opened with Saad-O'Reilly-Buchnevich as the top line. It still has firepower to score and all 3 play great defense as a shutdown line. I imagine there is some concern for the cap implications of the future years when we have Thomas, Kyrou, and O'Reilly next summer.

If we bring back Perron, it's going to be because Perron really wants to stay here and will take a discount to do so. I think ultimately he'll be back at 3/$14M or something along those lines. Regardless of what The Athletic says, I love Perron but he doesn't look like a $6M per year player to me. $8M would be nuts.

If he's looking for one final big payday, he'll be in another sweater again this season.

He looks like a $3.7M player? How many point per game players can you sign for less than $4M a season? I think $8M is too high. $6,5M is probably fair. I'd hope for $5M on a home town discount. Sub $4M is just an insult. If you think he looks like a less than $4M player you need your eyes checked.

Where do you get $3.7 from? My numbers would be a $4.67/yr and that's with a team-friendly discount. And no, he's worth more than that but I can't see him coming back for much more than that unless we move some cap.

$4.6 mil, not $3.7. That looks a bit more realistic

IMO, Perron has pretty easily been a $6M/year caliber player for about the last 6 years. Just go look at his production and what types of players make ~ $6M/year. Yet the highest AAV on a contract he’s had in his career is $4M. Criminally underpaid.

But what matters now is what he’s worth going forward. To me, he’s worth around what Husso got from Detroit. I’d aim for lower but $5.5Mish over 3 years seems fair to me.

My bad on the quick math. You are right, I was a million off. $4.67 is more reasonable than $3.67 but still several million a year under what the market rate would be.

I don't really think much of him as a player, but he seems like a really good kid. It's too bad he'll miss this chance but it is a very mature decision. I really hope he can carve an NHL career out to make it a worthwhile one.
He definitely seems to have a good head on his shoulders and has also made an impression on the vets. Kind of goes with my thinking that a Bluesy pick that sort of gets a negative connotation by some, really means a certain type of personality and Neighbours fits that.

The big thing if Perron walks, some of the other forwards need to step up in the next playoffs. We have the talent, they just need to perform.

Blues qualified all of our RFA's except Kaspick, per JR's twitter.

Dakota Joshua was also not in that group. He actually lost RFA status as he is a Group 6 UFA.

I wonder if Strome could be an option for the Blues if they don't resign Perron?

Edit:  Just realized he's a center and not a winger so that wouldn't help with all our center depth.

You can always shift Centers to the wing. It's far less effective to shift wingers to C. I'd rather have too many Centers than too many wings.

That said, I am not a huge fan of Strome. His speed and defense are not that good. With good linemates though he is decent offensively. I'd only sign him if he is cheap, Cheaper than his $3.6M QO. I don't blame Chicago for passing.

i seem to recall he's never been good on the wing. at all. it's basically center or bust for him.
