It's the first game hoping the freakin coaches make adjustments and get W's moving forward. Not the end of the world losing the first game if I remember correctly the U.S. beat Finland last year in the preliminary round and we all know how that ended. But need to play better if you want to win it all. That pass by Keandre Miller was brutal especially to the Canadians best player. But glad our kids did well.

Kupari is probably going to be a 2nd/3rd line tweener type, astleast as far as offense goes. I just worry that he is going to be another Kempe, not that it's the end of the world if that happens but the Kings really could have used an impact player from that draft, but the fluke year probably cost us 12-15 spots in the draft. That is why you want to see progress this season, but some of these wins could have long term negative effects on the rebuild.

From what i saw... Miller was pretty terrible all game. I haven't watched him before but the fact that he is the captain and got a lot of ice time, not impressed. Knight also didn't seem to make any big stops, am I just remembering this game wrong?

The US team pretty much only relied on two lines, and they ran out of energy as the game went on. Such horrendous coaching.

Here’s the ice time distribution.
IIHF - Game Centre 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship

It's tough to criticize someone who has been as dominant as Sandelin but the force feeding of less talented 19 year olds over more talented 18 year olds was, IMO pretty awful.

This used to be a 19 year old dominant tournament, but times change, just like the NHL where more and more players make an impact before age 21.

Nope I'm right there with you. Playing mostly two lines like someone mentioned will not help your causes either. I thought this team was deep. Guess the coaches think otherwise. Knight was just meh I guess. Goaltending makes a huge difference in these short tournaments. Looks like Canada will be the favorites after the first day. We'll see.

Couldn't watch it live unfortunately. Man that pass by Miller was just brutal, horrendous ice time distribution and Wahlstrom was a puck hog. Plenty of things to work on.

Now putting my LA Kings fan hat back on, it was a really good day for the prospects.
Kaliyev and Turcotte each with a point
Thomas with a beautiful assist
Fagemo with a goal and an assist

Right now he looks like a 20/20 guy at best but that is playing centre. He has a huge amount of raw talent, can skate and is skilled. His weakness seems to be IQ and if so, C is not the right position for him long term. Like Kempe he will look better at wing and he has the skill set to be a 30g scorer, if everything goes well.

However, more importantly let’s hope his injury isn’t too bad.

I have no interest in the tournament other than as a Kings fan, so it was enjoyable stuff.

I obviously want the USA to do well as it can only help Kaliyev and Turcotte, so the ice time distribution was fairly annoying. If not for my interest in our prospects it would be laughable though as it was obviously an issue. I thought distributing ice time like that was a thing of the past at this level, I guess not. If I were a USA fan I’d have been furious.

Rasmus Kupari left Thursday's World Junior Championship opener with what appeared to be a knee injury.

Kupari tried to avoid a hit from Sweden's Philip Broberg and it turned into a collision with an awkward fall for the Finnish forward. His status for the remainder of the tournament is unclear at this time.

...Fingers crossed it’s not as bad as it looked.

The document/pdf game summaries have some detailed info on the games:
SWE vs FIN
USA vs CAN
They are located at the bottom of the left column on the game pages under the heading Documents. I particularly like that they have TOI by period and detailed FO stats.

Kaliev stands a head above his teammates on the WJC squad. He is a man child over his peers in the OHL.

You would hope that a rebuild is far enough along by the start of next season where he has a legitimate shot at a 13/14 forward spot to start the season.
