Sucks that every play-in loser gets even odds (if they won any of the lottery spots). Makes no sense - should be weighted. That means even if we lose to Pittsburgh our odds at a top 3 pick went down pretty significantly from the 19% it was at.

As much as it sucks, at least they're not awarding the Top3 to the bottom 7 teams. Could've been a real possibility.

Sucks to drop from 6% to 3% at Laf if we lose against PIT but it's better than nothing. Since we got confirmation we'd be in the play-in, we saw worse propositions.

On another note regarding the top 4 teams. So they're gonna play a round robin bewteen these 4 teams to determine seeding it seems. I can't see the Bruins liking that at all since they had a 8 point lead on 2nd place Tampa.

It's not popular on their HF Boards that is for sure.

I would be pretty stoked as a Pens fan. You either make the playoffs with a team that was already very good, or you get at the absolute worst the 11th pick in the draft which you have no business drafting that high.

If they lose they get 1, 2, 3, or 15.

This is the worst outcome for the Habs and best outcome for the Pens.

But guess who voted for the Habs to be a part of this bogus tournament format?

It makes absolutely no sense.
Odds should be win%
Like I said, I don't think the format is that bad, but it makes no sense for the 2nd lottery to have equal odds. The placeholder that wins a lottery spot shouldn't be revealed until the 2nd lottery to prohibit an incentive to lose on purpose. The 2nd lottery should re-adjust odds with the placeholder that won the lottery spot getting the best odds and the lowest point percentage team gets the 2nd best odds...etc

They get1/2/3 or 8 or 9 if they lose.

He was talking about the Penguins. If they lose and don’t win the draft lottery they pick 15th.

picks No. 8-15 will be assigned to the teams that are eliminated from the Qualifying Round in inverse order of their point percentage.

See, you can sign NCAA guys real late in the season. Like a Makar for example. I don’t see the difference with Romanov in this case.

This is exclusive to this year. Every other year, it's not just NCAA players that can come late in the season/playoffs. It's players out of Europe, too. If this was last year, Romanov would be playing.

For some reason, they decided not to allow teams to do that this year.

Ian Mitchell for Chicago and Scott Perunovich for St. Louis are both in the same boat as Romanov with Habs, and they're both coming out of the NCAA.

So it's not a case of NCAA players can join and players out of Europe can't. Every other year, they both can. This year, neither can.

It may end up changing as it's not set in stone for this year yet. The NHLPA needs to approve. I imagine they will because they probably want to avoid any more hiccups or delays to this process.

It was because the teams signed them to a TBD contract start date. Essentially trying to save a year of their elc if the season didnt resume.

NHL told them not to do that. They did it anyway and now they arent eligible to play.
