Tofolli could play both wings.
I consider him a RW I don’t like him on the left - I’m not a big fan of off wing guys in their own end. I don’t mind in offensive zone lineups but to me he’s a RW

I don't think a legit top pairing guy is a must, just someone who's game can mesh with McAvoy's and be able to handle the workload. Chara did some good work defensively the past couple of years but using the eye test, he hampered the Chara -- McAvoy pairing, especially when it came to transitioning the puck.

Grz -- McAvoy meshes together pretty well, but it comes down to the size of Grz: can he handle the workload of 22 minutes a night?

One player I really want to see continue his progression and take the next step is Lauzon. It would be a huge boon for the team if he can show that he can be a top 4. Lauzon -- Carlo pairing won't set any new scoring records, but that's ok as long as they can be counted on to be sound defensively and help move the puck up and out on the attack for 20 minutes a night.
Best post of the day

exactly what a very bright long time hockey guy told me they should do a few weeks ago

smh

Down to the two Florida guys, Hoffman and Dadynov for a LW improvement? Feels like they are going with their young players. Which is a pretty big F.U. to Bergeron, Krecji, Marchand etc.

Well a third pick for Schmidt. Plain and simple crazy. Well, money is king along with the cap space. I never ever thought this would be a possibility. Benning must have something on Vegas. Now we are in trouble.

Leaving some value on the table is a small price to pay to get the space to sign AP.

Schmidt isn't that good, certainly not good enough to hold up an AP deal

It would be beneficial to add a solid partner for McAvoy. None of the players listed are likely to be ready for that spot. Trade some assets and get a good one.

I'm hoping to see Zboril or Vaakanainen make the team but I don't think that's a certainty.
Schmidt would have been great but he agreed to Vancouver so that Is where he went

Obviously Sweeney has a lot of faith and confidence in his young defensemen. He must feel that Vaakanainen, Zboril and Lauzon can fill the slots left open by Chara and Krug. And, by signing Miller to a 2million dollar contract, he has his backup in case one of them fails.

Keeping the seats warm for Lorelei.

Thought there were a lot of teams interested? Think that was team or agent "leak"/lie?

I think teams knew he was going to free agency and that it would useless to give away a draft pick for a guy that wanted to go to be paid top coin for most likely to the end of his playing days.

Kunin and Greenway for Minny. I would have liked Kunin. I think Greenway would have been devoured here like he was a Hayes.

Detroit was the rights to Krug.
Agreed on Kunin. Not too big but scrappy.

Our roster screams 2nd round exit. I feel like a fan of the Minnesota Wild.
I think this D group as it stands right now could miss the playoffs. I'm 100% serious. Losing Chara on the PK (if he's not signed) is going to leave a huge hole that I think most people here have been taking for granted.

NATE SCHMIDT FOR A f***ING 3rd. WHY SWEENEY. f***ING WHY DIDNT YOU OFFER UP MORE.

Not as simple as that. Don't you think most teams in the league would have offered more if they were able? That's a steal for Vancouver.

This is a failure on the level of the 05 lockout FA signings.

Sweeney thought he was smarter than everyone else and had it all figured out going into this. Instead he's left with his junk in his hand while actual smart GMs are making moves.
Yup, deer in the headlights 24/7. Always behind the rest of the leagues gm's and scouting departments

Agreed to Vancouver? He had 20 teams they could send Schmidt without even so much as a courtesy call. Even if 14 of them were in the West, that still left 6 Eastern teams. Schmidt isn't even a west coast guy, he grew up in Minnesota.

Sweeney never even had a conversation with Vegas tonight about Schmidt. I'd put money on it. He has his plan for the D and it's to roll with the group as it currently stands. I don't even dislike his plan to be honest, but if a D-man Schmidt's caliber becomes available out of the blue really and you can get him for such a low price, a good GM makes adjustments to his "plan" awfully quick. Especially when your core group is nearing the end of it's lifespan as effective pro hockey players.

It's seriously what this is starting to feel like.
