What about Erik Gustafsson as our Krug replacement? Scored 17 goals/60 points in 2018-2019 on a shitty Blackhawks team. Not huge, but 6 foot/200 pounds and brings similar skills as Krug. He's averaged 20 minutes a game for his career and still in his prime at 28 years old. I think he might be flying a little under the radar.

I've always liked him whenever I seen him play, he's not a number one but he would be a real nice add. With that said if Sweeney is serious about winning he needs to acquire a true number one LD, which I don't think he's capable of doing.

I don't think a legit top pairing guy is a must, just someone who's game can mesh with McAvoy's and be able to handle the workload. Chara did some good work defensively the past couple of years but using the eye test, he hampered the Chara -- McAvoy pairing, especially when it came to transitioning the puck.

Grz -- McAvoy meshes together pretty well, but it comes down to the size of Grz: can he handle the workload of 22 minutes a night?

One player I really want to see continue his progression and take the next step is Lauzon. It would be a huge boon for the team if he can show that he can be a top 4. Lauzon -- Carlo pairing won't set any new scoring records, but that's ok as long as they can be counted on to be sound defensively and help move the puck up and out on the attack for 20 minutes a night.

I think Weegar was Acciaris only win? I would deal for Weegar and then trade Carlo and a prospect for Virtanen plus

Donnys too late again, he signed with the Flyers. But we need to remember that it's only day four!

This must be your first hockey offseason. Welcome aboard.
No, I've actually been through several offseasons. I've just never seen anyone as asleep at the proverbial wheel as this. It's been even worse than his other failures.

Thanks for the welcome!

Define " asleep at the wheel ". Because they've signed a good, middle 6 winger to help with scoring depth. There's other holes to fix, but I would think classifying a team that's been in discussions with half the teams around the league as asleep is hyperbole. It's not how you start, it's how you finish. There's a lot of things to consider when roster building this offseason, one of them being the expansion draft coming up.

Which teams has he "been in discussions with"? That's 16 teams so I can't wait to hear which ones and who the discussions involved. Thanks in advance for providing this info.

What's your plan Bill?

My plan would have started a week ago at the draft. Move Krug for picks, move Krejci for picks, move Rask for picks.

Bergeron, Coyle and Studnicka would be my 3 centers. Sign a UFA goalie, sign one of the top UFA wingers, try to deal for one of the many defensemen available.

Get something back for your aging core, get younger, get pieces to re-stock the cupboard.

They couldn’t move Krug for picks

no one wanted him

fact not opinion

1. Torey said he had no offer since before season

2. media says the Bruins offered 6.5/6

3. agent never said it was BS and Bruins as we’ve seen with Marchand, Carlo, McAvoy, Coyle etc leak 0.0

4. St Louis only came in after negotiations broke down with AP on the weekend

conclusion- you can’t get picks for Krug when no one was signing a guy the media put out there $6.5 for 6 years

This was 100% agent leak

That amount of moves would take Donney Dolittle about three seasons to pull off.

According to a player agent, the Bruins were " in on everything ". This was also confirmed by verified inside info accounts like https://twitter.com/NHLRumorsDaily that the Bruins were in conversations with teams all around the league. The ones that I know of from people that I personally trust : Colorado, Arizona, Calgary, Winnipeg, Buffalo, Vancouver, Detroit, Florida, Oilers, Vegas, Minnesota. Some more serious than others.

Asleep at the wheel? No. More like finding it harder than they thought to seal the deal, which seems to happen a lot with Sweeney/Neely. They offered Hall a three year deal, but for whatever reason, he picked Buffalo. They've made one good move so far with Smith and I guess you would call it a good-will gesture to Kevan Miller for a year to give him a chance at resuming his career. I think there's more to come in the pipeline, but we'll see.

Roster building is always a fluid situation. They'll get chances to upgrade as the season goes on.
