I think it’s the fact that Washington wants to extend their window as much as possible. A safe pick doesn’t do that for you. You swing for the fences here. As a reminder, many of us were mocking Schneider to TOR at 15. And as @Edge tells us, he was high up on the Rangers’ list. I know we all want the sexy forward pick (I did too), but this is objectively a great pick.

I understand fully capitalizing on moving Tony D, just curious if you know where they see Schneider potentially fitting in with the rest going forward. The former seems most likely to me.

I think Schneider gives them a lot of options and is going to be a player who holds value because his game isn't tied into translating offense to the NHL.

McIlrath comparisons are so lazy. Draft a defenseman with an edge and suddenly it's 2010 all over again. Schneider put up nearly 2X the points in his draft year and had 1/4 of the PIM. McIlrath was a goon. Schneider ranked 13th by ISS, 15th by Mckeen's, 17th by McKenzie, 19th by Consolidated Rankings, 21st by Future Considerations.

Only thing that makes me second guess is that he's a RHD, but I guess you go BPA and if that's your guy, then that's your guy.

But...but the experts in here said that better talent was on the board and the NYR shouldn't have moved up, right? If all the smoke around the NJD and NYR loving Schneider as much as they did, you have to go and get your guy. That simple.

Well there probably was better talent on the board but that's neither here nor there.

My problem is not Schnieder as a player. My problem is we'll take this big tough kid and tell him to never touch anyone entering his own zone because that's how we play.

A lot of people put too much focus on skill and scoring. We have 4 guys who could end up being elite offensive talents. We need guys who can do the dirty work.

It's a game that begins when Buffalo coming to terms with not getting Lafreniere or Kakko --- whenever that process may begin for them.

All year we hear “take BPA always”

but then it turns out the Rangers’ BPA is a RHD and we take him and ppl get mad. Take the best players and make the decisions later. We’re stacked all over the place. If Schneider can force himself into the conversation the Rangers will find space for him. Plus trades happen and rosters change so much.

Take the best guys and everything will figure itself out.

I for one can’t wait for Schneider to turn into Parayko 2.0.
