All we heard on these boards after getting swept by Carolina is we are too easy to play against. We get two guys who are talented and have edge & grit to their game and people want another smaller fragile forward with tremendous upside but no grit. Hello....we have a bunch of them already. If we learned one thing from watching TB this year vs last is that you build for the playoffs.

Why do some people keep saying he is Mcilrath 2.0? Nothing against Mcilrath but he had very little to no skill. He was a tough guy/crease clearing defenseman. This kid has more skill

boo hoo. Laf is 19 and Kakko isn’t much older.
That’s not the point. You said you want the Rangers to be harder to play against. How does a guy who has no chance of being on the roster in the near future help with that?

Bloggers and Fanboys that want a fun sub 6 foot team and no grit: Why did we lose to Carolina?

Davidson and Gorton: We will show you why tonight

Bloggers and Fanboys: But we want Lapierre!

A lot of people put too much focus on skill and scoring. We have 4 guys who could end up being elite offensive talents. We need guys who can do the dirty work.

A few thoughts here:

1. The Rangers-Calgary trade reflects the talks we've had around here about larger talks spurring smaller talks as a result of familiarity. But make no mistake, these two teams will continue talking.

2. The risk here for both the Rangers, and now Calgary, is that if Lapierre remains healthy he'll be a homerun pick. If he can't stay healthy, they'll both potentially look like winners.

3. The Rangers will be keeping very close tabs on their in-state neighbors to the northwest. And they will be stockpiling talent with an eye toward the horizon.
Is point 3 a short term target or is that the long game? Long game meaning next off season...

1 and 3 excite me. 2 is a solid risk/reward proposition. I trust JD and Gorts.

Oh that #3 is a sexy nugget

The hate for the Schneider pick solely because of our current RD situation is ludicrous IMO...the only reason our current RD situation bears relevance to this pick is it allows us to patiently develop this kid. Drafting BPA > drafting based on need. And if what Edge said is true about the Rangers having him at #12 then he was obviously the BPA on their draft board. Paying a 3rd to jump two division rivals to take a guy who they ranked 7 slots higher than where they were picking him is a no brainer...
