Speaking of the draft, I would be a little nervous if I were New Jersey right now. Hughes has not exactly busted out of the gate and while he is still young, he will need to really blow up to justify the #1 pick. When you combine that with Patrick out performing Hischier so far, the Devils are proof that drafting high won't guarantee anything.

Yes on IR he is out performing him.

After 43 games played, Hischier is on the verge of tying Nolan Patrick's career high in a season.

And Patrick has been out all season.

So how has Patrick outperformed Hischier?

Huh? Nolan Patrick has been on the shelf all year. Hischier is going to be just fine and will end up being a very good player in this league. Wouldn’t be suprised if Hischier breaks out big time next year.

Hughes will be very good as well.

Don’t think the Devils are worried.

Hischier is awesome. But both Patrick and Hischier are relatively underwhelming top picks, which I think was the main point there, especially given behind them you have Heiskanen, Makar, Pettersson.

I see the point. I guess I felt that both are underwhelming for the pick position. Everyone made good points on the comparison. Could have framed it a lot better.

I was thinking the same thing. Yes Patrick has been hurt all year but personally I think Hischier is and will always be a better player.

No one is going to catch Detroit. Next closest(Kings/Devils) are 13pts ahead and Detroit has already played 51 games to Kings 50 and Ottawa/New Jersey 48. So barring a lottery win, we're looking at likely fighting for top 2-5 again.

Assuming the Kings finish 30th, is there a consensus Top 5 picks this year and would the Kings do well to draft any of them. Also, after the Lottery would trading up or down be possible or beneficial?

It seems like last year, there isn't a generational talent available this year. It's pretty deep though in the first round though.

After Lafreniere, I would be satisfied with any of the following and I think they would add a lot to system and I think that there will be discussions on who really is #2:

Byfield
Stutzle
Raymond
Drysdale

You may even see Holtz and Rossi move up as it gets closer. Some people really like Perfetti a lot. What's nice is that even if the Kings don't win the lottery, they will get a top 6 Forward or if Drysdale is there, a top 2 Dman. It's a good year to be in the Top 7-8.

Honestly, regardless of the talent available, I would prefer they draft the best player available and go for the highest talent possible versus trading down and getting cute. I'd rather strike out swinging for the fences than go for some 2 for 1 and miss out on a higher caliber player. We have bottom 6 players out the wazoo, we need top talent.

Agree 100%

I don't think Vilardi or Turcotte are going to be the elite superstar forward that Kopitar was for the Kings teams. They need to find that player in one of these drafts.

Yup I agree with this too. Kopi is basically the only offensive talent that's been home grown since like forever it seems. Don't even remember the last time we had a 40 goal scorer not saying scoring 40 goals is easy but just the idea of a forward with 40 goal potential. Hoping it will come.

Robitaille, 93-94, 44 goals in 83 games. Palffy never did it, although he did score 38 in 76 games in 00-01. Closest since the lockout are Frolov in 06-07 and Kopitar in 17-18, both with 35 in 82 games.

Carter scored 26 in 48 games in 13-14 due to the half-lockout, which is a 44-goal pace.

As much as we need top end forward the need for a top 2 defenseman is greater imo. Drew needs a partner he doesn't have to babysit. This team won with elite defensive play and i think this would be the best route to go. We should be looking for someone to replace Drew now so Drew can help groom him while hes still in his prime to do it. I support trading down to get the best defenseman in the draft and by all accounts Drysdale is it

Strongly disagree. I think a game changer like Lafrenière is what we desperately need. We haven't drafted a gifted offensive player since Kopi, excluding the 19 draftees (kaliyev, turcotte, fagemo)

If we can get 1st overall sure i agree take him. However draft lotto has not been kind to us and i see us drafting 3-5 to be honest and if we are in this situation moving lower adding a another pic and drafting the best defense man in this draft is the best thing for this club

wouldn't be mad if it pans out this way.

If you are looking past Doughty, then yes it would be ideal to look for a future top pairing defenseman. That being said I'm not going to worry about that for a couple more year a Doughty ha shown to be incredibly durable and I suspect he'll age pretty well and play into hi late 30s. I understand the appeal in someone like Drysdale and going after the top the defenseman in the draft, but I'm weary about drafting the top defenseman in a weak draft for that position.

I don't think that anyone is going to argue that at all. The problem is that the Kings won't win the lottery. It's just not going to happen.

This has more to do with the guys behind Drysdale being weaker. Drysdale is legit: Jamie Drysdale | Jamie Drysdale Profile | Jamie Drysdale Scouting Report 2020

He is a Top 2 pairing Dman.

I completely agree, reaching for position at the top of the draft is a horrible decision in my opinion. Later in the 1st when prospects are much closer in talent I understand, but when you are picking top 5 you need to get the best player available.

At what point in the draft would you guys like to see us pick Drysdale? Imo I only see it being worth it if we get no higher than the 5th pick because I would like us to get either raymond or stutzle with the 3-4 picks unless we get 1st or 2nd overall.
