I think he's more like Keith than Doughty, but

"Los Angeles also gets lucky — elevated from fourth to third through the lottery — and the Kings love what they see in Drysdale as the second coming of Drew Doughty. Los Angeles has the league’s best prospect pool — according to The Hockey Writers, among other sources — and Drysdale becomes their best defence prospect ahead of Tobias Bjornfot, Kale Clague and Mikey Anderson, who all play the left side. Drysdale is a righty, like Doughty, and there are similarities in their ability to dominate at both ends and their overall competitiveness. Every team would love to have one Doughty, let alone two. The Kings’ forward group is also enviable for the future, so Rob Blake uses this pick to further bolster their blue line."

I do see the point that getting Drysdale loads up our D prospect pool in a necessary way. Just not sure I'd do that over Stutzle or Byfield. But at 4 or later? I can buy it.

Picks 2-8 or 4-8 depending on how you see them have some really tough decisions to make.

The more I think about it, the more I think if they fall to #7, you shoot for the stars, Jack Quinn, Perfetti or Rossi, given what's already in the organization, no reason to go with a high-floor player like Lundell or Zary.

I just think there are too many good forwards in this top 10 to pass up on. I like Drysdale and I acknowledge that our depth on defense isn't the best, but given that I think Doughty will still be a top defenseman for years and with Bjornfot, Anderson, Clague, Roy and Walker having shown they can be NHL defenseman I don't think its a dire need given their ages. And while I'm confident in that Vilardi, Turcotte and Kaliyev being top 6 players, I still think we need one more game breaking forward. Hopefully its Lafreniere, but Byfield, Stutzle, Rossi, Perfetti, Raymond or Holtz I would be perfectly content with any of them.

I know Perfetti isn't a great skater, but I REALLY like him. He just produces. I think he becomes a top 15 player in the NHL on the right team.

Given our forward prospects he's not really a bad fit either.

Perfetti-Vilardi-Fagemo
Kaliyev-Turcotte-Kupari seems niceish

Edit: of course Lafrieniere-Vilardi-Fagemo seems nicer :P

I just hope if the NHL changes lottery system whatever it is we remain in the top 9 range. If so not worried about getting a top-end talent.

Even picking 7th would be utter garbage after being in the 2nd slot all the way until literally the last minute of the arbitrary deadline, but it would be the most kings thing ever

I could live with #7.

1- Lafreniere
2- Byfield / Stutzle
3- Stutzle / Byfield
4- Drysdale / Holtz / Raymond
5- Holtz / Raymond / Drysdale
6- Raymond /Drysdale / Holtz

At 7, you're picking between Rossi, Perfetti and Lundell, unless Ottawa snags Askarov with one of their picks.

WE'd still get a good player, no doubt. MOre just a commentary on the lottery in general. We'd be going from 2nd with the lowest we could pick being 5th to 4th with the lowest we could pick being 7th. Bonus kick in the teeth if the Ottawa pick now occupying our 'spot' WINS the lottery for Lafreniere while we drop to picking Raymond/Holtz. THAT would be the most Kings thing ever!

Holy smokes that footwork is so smooth. The transitions between forward and backward are so natural I wonder if he even thinks about it.

To me Stuzle and Rossi are the two guys that are either hit or miss. No rhyme or reason just a feeling. If we get either of these guys I'm hoping we hit and not miss. It would be really depressing if we miss to be honest. But then again anyone can be a miss so whatever.

Stutzle has killed it on every level he's played at and did really well in the top German league playing most of the season as a 17 year old. He might be the best skater in the draft as well. If Rossi skated like Stutzle, he'd probably be the #1 overall pick. If the Kings end up with Stutzle, I'd be ecstatic. I would be happy with Rossi, but I think Stutzle's complete package is more translatable because of his elite skating.

I'm as big a fan of Stutzle as anyone but he comes with questions just like anyone after Lafreniere.

The league question--there's a lot of really, really bad defense in that league. Not just 'not NHL defense', a lot of a guy all alone in front of the net untouched stuff. a lot of uncontested cross passes. a lot of guys not laying down/selling out to make a big defensive play. Guys would rather swing their stick than make contact. He has it really, really easy--will he be able to do more when the NHL default is to tighten up the front? You don't get to float slot passes in the NHL.

One of the things I lie most about Stutzle is his fearlessness of that netfront area and traffic in general. He's not scared to dangle in and out of traffic or to take the puck straight to the middle no matter what. While we need more of that, that's going to look different in the NHL for sure. Does he figure it out? Get hammered a few times and get tentative? make different moves? DEL almost looks like high level roller hockey frankly. But then again, he's slippery as f***. and if a guy like Elias Pettersson can figure it out, so can Stutzle. Dude has swagger and confidence and I hope he keeps it and his team allows him to figure that out at the NHL level, he wants the puck.

Third, him taking the puck to traffic all the time--even in that league d-men seem to get at least their sticks on his stick all the time. He ends up with loose pucks nearby constantly. It's hard to tell whether he's actually strong on the puck or if it's shitty defending. I have to think NHL defenders aren't going to let you get all up in their triangle like that without at least disarming you if not full on planting you on your ass. Again, I think he's slippery enough to figure it out, but I guess in the end I'm saying despite him playing against men, I think he's got a lot to learn.

To his credit though he imposes his will on the game, works HARD (full motor all the time, like Lizotte, but high end skill and speed), always wants the puck (I want assertive guys like that, he doesn't look to defer), and just flies around raising hell. He'll absolutely be a player, and one who could easily contribute to our terrorizing forecheck with his abilities. I think the guy is phenomenal. I just think it's fair to question his draft spot just like anyone else's in the top five.

Is there an age limit for the draft? Let’s say for whatever reason Lafreniere decides to play in Europe or the KHL for the next five years. And then decides he wants to play in the NHL. Does he have to go through the draft to play in the NHL? Or is he a RFA/UFA?

Yes, their is an age limit for the draft, I believe it's 3-4 years after a players original draft year (see college seniors becoming UFAs), however, they must sign ELCs despite being UFAs.

Prokhorkin is a good example, he was drafted, and 7 years later he finally came over and had to sign an ELC.

Even Panarin, who was never drafted, had to sign an ELC loaded with bonuses.

No player who is older than 20 as of Sept 15 is eligible to be drafted, and could sign as an undrafted free agent.

Depending on the age he signs, he would be sn RFA/UFA when his contract expires.

that’s some elite company , wow . Amazing to see Kaliyev on the list really shows that our scouts might be top 5 in the league at their job , once they are told to draft differently . 2019 is the best draft in Kings history and will shape our future for the next decade +.

calling it now Kaliyev makes the team next year like many before him and he will score ze goals !

ps. If Quinn just accomplished a feat like this and is in that elite company why is he not mentioned more or hyped more for the draft

The bolded is ridiculous.

Kopitar and Quick were drafted in the same draft.
