Who needs defense anyway, right?

Defense is quite important as well.
Thats why we have Lindholm and Manson who's toolset is better for 2way play and produce some offense even with mostly defensive zone starts.
If Drysdale is capable of being good defensively while being dynamic offensively like Rookie version of Fowler, then he would be the perfect partner for Fowler. Fowler/Drysdale.

Maybe this has been asked before but what do you think the highest we could move up by packaging pick 36 and Boston’s first would be?

Late teens, depending on who is there and how much the teams there like them.

We had a deal last year to move up around there for our late first and early second. Tried to get Krebs, but Vegas took him one spot before.

I read an article a while back where someone had created an algorithm for the value of packaged picks, taking into account essentially every trade like that in recent history.
According to this algorithm, #31 and #36 got us #17.

Last year, we had a proposed package of 29th and 39th picks for the 18th pick (Dallas). The trade terminated once Peyton Krebs was selected 17th overall.

A huge factor happens to be finding a team willing to trade down. It could have been possible that the Ducks did try to move up higher than 18th, but those teams said no. Dallas said yes, even if it included passing on Krebs.

Curious, what player who might drop could the force the Ducks to trade up and where? (I don't think we want to trade up as this draft just seems deeper in the first two rounds, but it could be a fun exercise to eat up time.) I think NJ wouldn't mind dangling the 18th pick considering they have the 7th, 18th, and 20th selections already. Also, NJ doesn't possess a 2nd round pick.

I would imagine New Jersey would be the team to aim at. I just dont know if there are any guys wed move up for... i guess if we went with Rossi/Raymond at 6... maybe Schneider would be of interest... id hope if someone like Quinn/zary/mercer fell wed be all over it(i dont think thats likely, but i also didnt expect krebs to go as low as he did). Specially if we go Drysdale... it would be nice to pick up a high ceiling forward prospect.

would be awesome if one of raymond/quinn/holtz falls and we could pull off a trade

Schneider would be well worth 31 + 36 but I think he goes before someone is willing to trade down their 1st.

Jason Blake was a speedster winger who doubled as a first rate pest who liked to run his mouth on the ice. That isn't anything like how Rossi plays.

That isn't to disparage Blake, I just don't understand the comparison other than both are short for the NHL.

Nobody gives love to dirk ever, I agree with you dirk. Small players get wrecked in the league.
Meh I see Rossi closer to Marchand/Gallagher type than a skilled small player, I think he’ll be fine.

last time we drafted a big body forward in top 15 wasn’t like it worked out very well, see nick ritchie

I think I've been converted into a Sanderson guy.

My top 10:

1. Lafreniere

2. Byfield

3. Stutzle (I think his style is a little too predictable, he's maybe a bit overhyped)

4. Perfetti (I think Detroit takes him)

5. Sanderson (think he's the Seider of this year's draft, where the fanbase of whoever takes him will be initially disappointed but will quickly come around)

6. Raymond (too much talent to drop)

7. Rossi (it's funny that the guy with maybe the highest floor is the most polarizing one in the whole draft. Not as high on him as some but I don't think his size is that big an issue either. Overall I think he's "fine", but not my first choice.)

8. Holtz

9. Quinn (I have a weird feeling this is who we end up with)

10. Drysdale (the more I read the more I'm confused why he's listed so high in some places. I don't see it.)

As has been pointed out before we're in the range where it almost doesn't really matter who we pick since they're all so close in this range.

Can’t see drysdale slipping to 10

I had my eye on Quinn potentially falling into our laps. A draft where we could snag Holtz and Quinn I think would significantly alter our franchise by increasing team speed, defensive prowess on the wings and significantly improving on our scoring inefficiency. Both have NHL size as well.

I don’t think we’d pass on Schneider if he was available in the top 20 with another 1st

If we get a forward I just hope we get someone who plays physical and hounds pucks. We need to build for the playoffs and all of those soft forwards that lile to float around get exposed.

I agree, we need grit. It’s ok if they are small, but they need heart and work ethic on and off the ice so they continue to improve and lead by example.

Our likely options will come down to Rossi, Drysdale, Perfetti, Holtz, and Raymond. I’m having intangible doubts on Perfetti and Holtz... and both aren’t elite skaters or show that doggedness.

I’m leaning towards Drysdale/Raymond hoping that we can get a small gritty scoring forward similar to Rossi with our 2nd 1st rounder in guys like Khusnutdinov or Ozzy. But both are starting to trend up so we might not get a shot now.

If we miss out on Drysdale... I’m not sure what offensive dman we would target. Viro or Powell in the 3rd?
