For me, not in any way.

Can you expand on your thought? I am actually curious how you are getting that comparison!
I always compare players based purely on eye test. Which is why I always say rossi looks like Crosby. Obviously not potential.

just the way he skates and Shoots the puck. To me he literally “looks” like tkatchuk

Throw Jarvis/Quinn/Mysak on the other side and call it a night.

If we can trade up to get one of those guys... ooh, Madone.

I would target NJD. They have 3 picks in the top 17, and then no other ones in the top 100.

Could 21 + 33 + 50 start to get us close to 10?

That trade would bring us down to (only) 7 picks in the top 80. I guess we could throw in another pick.

True, it's rare you see a trade like that but it's rare that a team has this many high draft picks to jockey around with. If NJD sees the grouping between 10-20 as a relatively tight one, a trade like that would make sense for them.

I haven't seen too much of Mercer outside of World Juniors, but I've really liked what I have seen. I know he's been playing center this year, but where would people rank him compared to other potential right wings in a similar range, Jack Quinn, Noel Gunler, Seth Jarvis?

5, 6

Holy shit lol. And Habs won it 2/5 times to boot.

Alright - so I'm thinking about traits that are hard to come by in each player that we might draft:

Laf - Complete elite skill set and plays hard to boot
Byfield - Rare size and speed combo for a center with maybe the highest ceiling of the draft
Stutzle - Cerebral player with elite agility to creates scoring chances after scoring chances
Rossi - Really high hockey IQ with matching compete level and character
Raymond - Elite play maker who plays an excellent 2 way game
Holtz - Pure goal scorer with crazy accurate shot
Lundell - Rare size and skill combo that may translate into a true power forward in the NHL
Perfetti - Off the charts offensive awareness - perhaps the smartest player in the O-Zone from this draft class

I can't be upset with any 2 of the above but I hope we pick Holtz if we ended up with a 5th/6th pick just because goal scorer is so hard to come by.

I thought it would be fun to do the opposite. Weaknesses.

Lafreniere - Not many. Skating isn't elite. If I'm reaching, he plays a very physical style so might be prone to injury in the NHL.
Byfield - Skating and hands are elite, but I sometimes worry about his pace. He's one of those Spezza types, who can tend to look leisurely out there.
Stutzle - How well does his game translate to success in high-danger scoring areas in the NHL? I have little doubt he can be a 20 goal, 55 assist player in the NHL, but that extra 10 or 15 goals means the difference between Barzal and Kane.
Rossi - No question he plays a style of game that will adapt well to the NHL. Controls play away from the puck, gives and goes. I guess it is just a question of how well he can put it all together in the NHL. There's a chance he ends up a Marchand, but I think Pageau/Trocheck is a just as realistic outcome.
Raymond - Will he be strong enough to play his style of game in the NHL? High hockey IQ so I could see him still adapting as a solid two-way top nine NHL forward even if he doesn't turn out.
Holtz - My biggest question marks with him right now are defensive play and pace. He needs to be more intense. Upside ranges from Naslund to Hejduk to Bobby Ryan to Simon Gagne to Alexander Frolov. Probably the most likely of the top ten to not stick in the NHL. He could be a superstar in Sweden.
Lundell - Lack of high-end offensive upside. Teams have picked Nolan Patrick, Jordan Staal and Mikko Koivu as high as 2nd overall because they were the safe picks. The trick will be not to take him too high, but don't miss out if you can get him at a good place. If you're lucky you get Ryan O'Reilly 2.0.
Perfetti - Makes some silly 18-year old decisions. Tries to do too much, forces plays. But then there is a reason the NHL giveaway leaders every year is littered with elite offensive players: they try things. He'll just take some time to find that balance. The combination of size and immaturity might scare some teams off.

Great post but Stutzle is not cerebral, that guy is dynamic and the best dangler in this draft, kinda plays like Barzal/Panarin.

Hey thanks, that's good to know! I assumed he was cerebral from scouting reports and videos that I've watched but I know I could be wrong. How do you think his hockey IQ rank among that list?
