Habs don't exactly do well with high school picks either. At least with EU picks, they have more visibility, especially this draft since they're already playing.

Macdonagh, Struble, Harris, those are decent picks. The Habs draft a lot more in Sweden and Finland than in US high schools, but they've used high picks (Fischer and Macdonagh) so people think that's all they do. It's certainly not the sexy route, and I'd rather they draft local kids a lot more, but I understand why they go for college players based on the fact that they have more years to evaluate post-draft.

Guhle has two more years in the WHL and I assume one in the AHL.
Tuch up to four years in the NCAA and then 1 AHL year.
Mysak has two more years in the OHL and I assume at least one in the AHL.
Smith goes to NCAA in 2021-2022 so may turn pro in up to 5 years then at least 1 AHL year.
Biondi up to 4 years in NCAA then AHL.
Farrell up to 4 years in NCAA then AHL.

Well, I've wanted the scouting staff to be revamped.

All I'm saying is it doesn't make sense to redirect that disappointment onto the leagues the players are drafted from.

If you see a player like Cale Makar playing in a pond hockey league, you take him.

I wonder why we pick so few europeans

We pick tons of europeans all the time i dont know why this keeps being brought up today?

TODAY we didnt pick europeans ok i understand, but TODAY is also a very different time than the last time there was a draft... i can see how most teams kept it north american without enough views on europeans to take gambles on..

just because the europeans play in "pro leagues" doesnt mean they are ALL better than every single north american prospect...
