Hopefully a team in the top 10-12 takes Askarov and Quinn flies up a teams draft board

I think you’d need to be in the top 10 to grab Lundell. If he plays well in Liiga before the draft I think he’ll solidify that top 10 position

He’s probably the most safe bet to play center at the NHL level aside from maybe Byfield or Stutzle in the top 10. Some team will recognize it and take him

For those more familiar than I am with the players, how does Lafreniere compare to a guy like Elias Pettersson?

boy did bob get the 7th pick in 2017 wrong
Yep what bad luck but hopefully we more than made up for it with Kakko and Lafreniere?!!!!!
I mean a few picks away from getting EP (another 3 points for him tonight BTW).

Wondering if Toronto is eyeing someone on defense with their new first round pick.

That would potentially push one more forward down.

I’d imagine Schneider and Guhle are both are on their radar.

@ManUtdTobbe can tell you more, but that's not their fourth line.

That is basically their top line, FYI.

Their lines are all over the place, and with it being pre-season, it makes sense. The big guns are missing, so we will know more once the reg season starts in 3 weeks. Hjalmarsson is one of their best players, while Mursak is a new signing, returning after 2 years with Bern in NL, who was quite good in the KHL with CSKA before that. Those 2 are definitely not 4th line players.

It's tough to compare Lafreniere to anyone because of his skillset. His physical edge on top of his world class talent.

Peter Forsberg and, don't kill me, Mark Messier, are the ones that come to mind that combine those 2. I am not saying Lafreniere will reach the level those two did, but purely based on bringing that edge on top of world class talent.

Those two names have come up, so you're not the first, and you can breathe easy. I also saw a Patrick Kane with Ovechkin's size and demeanor comparison.

Let's pump the brakes on the size; he's currently 2" shorter and 44lbs lighter. In the MacKinnon mold, I expect Lafreniere to top out at 205.

Yeah but you are winning lots of Cups over the next decade.
This is a statement made based strictly on accumulating.......draft picks.......

Hellllloooooooo perpetual rebuild. How are you today? Oh, wait, we burned off multiple years of Panarin's contract.

In the bigger picture, really well IMO. What someone like him have is more than anything like the presence of mind to be in total control of things and find solutions in high action situations and on top of that a skill set, mainly stickhandling and skating, that can get him out of tricky situations. Laf fits all those bills.

Then of course the demeanor is a bit different, they wouldn't be mixed up if they played in the same game.

Does he actually have Ovechkin's size and demeanor though? This is a real question. Fantastic if he did, but from what I read it is not so much the power game, but more of the attitude and the chirping that he brings. He will certainly play physical but, and take this for what it is, I was thinking more of a Theo Fleury type of presence on the ice. Maybe not quite as abrasive.

Have also seen the Kane and Makinnon comparisons.

First of all, its much more common that teams in Sweden literary roll 4 lines, not just play the 4th a bit here and there. Second of all, Mursak and Raymond have been on the top PP all pre-season. Goto guys when chasing a lead.

But, it is also an active attempt to change the outlook of the team a bit. Its a bit nonsense to claim that its the "de facto 1st line" because it haven't been. Rönnberg has talked at length how he wants a more team loyal line-up that is low maintenance compared to what they had last season when they had more bigger names, but still struggled pretty much in the SHL (think they were 7th of 14 teams when it was interrupted).

Henriksson's line has been the first to hit the ice. Lasu's line has definitely played as much as any other line. If any line is the "4th" right now its Nässen, Carlsson and Sundström, but that is still definitely a very solid SHL line that easily could have been a 2-3 line for other teams. Raymond's line is 4th in the pecking order because they get the top PP time.

How gritty is Laf really? I've only seen like 7-8 games with him. The only time he was physical was really against the US in the WJC. Maybe threw the odd hit against Russia too in the Final. He wasn't physical at all in like the Hlinka Tournaments.

But he was definitely physical against the US and threw several big hits. But at the same time, definitely not Ovechkin caliber.

I'd say for Lafreniere it's more than throwing checks. It's also throwing an elbow, or a chop with the stick.

I would caution people not get too carried away with the gritty/physical talk. He's not going to go out there and mow people down in open ice or maul someone who looks at him funny.

But I can see him pulling a Pavel Bure and stalking someone down the ice and letting them know he's not going to be taken out of the game via intimidation.

OV has never thrown a hit that wasn't borderline charging. Lafreniere is not at that level of hitter.

But he hits people and isn't shy about defending himself. Think more Landeskog in the physicality/grit area.
