If he was a guaranteed top pairing Dman, he'd be going in the Top 5 over guys like Drysdale. At 8, at least one of the following would be available:

Rossi
Perfetti
Drysdale
Holtz
Raymond
Lundell

I would take any of those players over Sanderson without thinking twice. But quite honestly I also wouldn't mind making a minor move-up and getting Holloway, Zary, Sanderson with our pick, and Mysak at 23. Most of the mocks I've seen have Sanderson going at around 13 anyway

I think it is very likely Sanderson jumps into the top 10 and some team might pick him up at No. 5/6. I'm hearing teams liking him over Drysdale (which is a load of crap). Nonetheless, this pushes one of those centers back in the draft which I think NYR would be fine to move up a few slots to grab him.

You have to think, too, there are two teams that each have two picks in that top 10 (Ottawa and New Jersey). Got to think they spread the wealth, if you catch my drift.

It could be a whack a mole thing for a while too. It dies down a bit in New Jersey, New York and rises in Texas, Florida and Georgia. It dies down in those place and then rises in California or Missouri.

As far as I know there are three sets of Governors working in coordination with each other--many of the states in the Northeast region, several states in the rust belt Midwest regions and about 5 states in the west. I think that's going to be helpful in beating it back but it still leaves about 30 states that are pretty much acting on their own.

A Cornell University epedemiologist when asked about how necessary testing will be the other day said that it's extremely important and that people may need to be tested maybe even much more than one time and likened opening up an economy with very little testing as trying to cross a busy road blind. Maybe another analogy would be playing your first ice hockey game the first time you ever put on skates. No one knows how many people this is going to kill but when too many get sick--the hospital end starts collapsing and there is no choice than to shut down then the area covered by that hospital.

I do expect at least two or three regions in NYS to reopen around the 15th. That said I think it's going to be a while before downstate including Long Island is ready to reopen. And as far as reopen goes it doesn't mean everything and it doesn't mean that people shouldn't be cautious about social distancing or not continue to wear masks when other people are nearby.

Hate to say it but I think this country is going to have a second wave and it's going to be at least as hard as the first. If that does happen though I do think people here in NYS and NYC will be better prepared than other parts of the country.

Definitely. I'll DM you my thoughts on this, don't want to clutter the draft thread with Covid stuff, lolol.

Fanbase wanted Wahlstrom who's a total bust, not sure we should put much stock in their draft analysis.

Lolol, I still remember going to the NYR draft party and when the Rangers came up to select, everyone started chanting Wahlstrom. The pick ended up being Kravtsov and everyone bitched. I was okay with it, although I, too, wanted Wahlstrom at the time.

I thought it was funny, though. Adam Graves came up to speak after the pick was made to defend why they chose Kravtsov and everyone changed their minds so quickly. So I got to agree with @Amazing Kreiderman. You could definitely see who watches/studies prospects and who follows whatever Larry Brooks or [INSERT BEAT WRITER HERE] says.

Just curious. How do we know Wahlstrom is a total bust right now but Kravtsov isn’t?Just playing devils advocate. Not saying either are busts right now. I mean Kravtsov hasn’t lit the world on fire

I was more between Dobson and Kravtsov. I think Edge had talked up Dobson quite a lot. I mean I knew the names but I piggyback off the opinions of a lot of sources really and Edge's opinions on the draft I take pretty seriously. I'll also look at how a lot of draft sites rank players and read synopsis reviews when I have the time. I also try to stay away from the 'we have to pick an American, Canadian or European' thing. The Rangers are a very Americanized (more towards the D) and Europeanized (more towards the F's and the G's) team though and pretty much I like all the players--even the couple everyone hates which doesn't mean that I wouldn't move them though.

But that draft it was Lindbom in the 2nd that irked me. That isn't to say he's not going to turn out though so far he's been inconsistent when he hasn't been hurt but IMO we could have picked him or a comparable goalie a couple rounds later and there were areas of greater need than goaltender and there were still some pretty good players on board that we should have taken instead.

I was mad about Kravtsov, wanted Wahlstrom or Dobson. But quite happy with both Miller & Lundkvist

I was down to those 3 guys but I would have 1. Dobson 2. Kravtsov and 3. Wahlstrom. Wahlstrom had a great year with USNTDP but Kravtsov spent that year in the KHL and had a fantastic playoffs. Kravtsov had a good draft +1 year but this past season adjusting to North America was kind of iffy. I think Vitali has to work on strength and fill out a bit more. He's tall but he's not that strong. I think we're going to get at least a Buchnevich level player out of him if not better. Buchnevich came over at an older age and struggled with the same stuff. Pavel's a lot stronger than he was and has picked up his physical game quite a lot since his rookie year. So we're going to need to be patient with Kravtsov IMO but I think we're in a position where we can afford to be patient--we don't need to rush anyone. Speaking of that though Andersson (if we're keeping him) needs to get stronger. That was one thing about Filip--he was ready size and strength as a 17 year old.

We don't know, and anyone who says otherwise is fooling themselves.

I had concerns about how Wahlstrom's game would translate to the pros, and he had a mediocre freshman campaign at Boston, so, people are down on him. He did nothing in his NHL cup of coffee and has looked just okay in the AHL.

Kravtsov obviously comes with his own question marks as well. Next year we could very well be talking about how Wahlstrom figured it out and took off and how Kravtsov sucks, who knows.

The reaction at the draft party when they picked Kravtsov was priceless. It was like the air being sucked out of the room, and then a select few cheering because they actually knew something about him lol

The concerns with Kravtsov are the same they were two years ago.

He could be one of the best forwards to come to the draft, or he could be the answer to a trivia question.

I do think Sanderson's a McDonagh clone, and I do think that he's a guy you can win with. But two first round picks is a very high premium for him, and would be poor asset management imo. I do not think he will be there at 13. He's going to go top 10, and I've seen him as high as 6 on some lists. Big body, great skater, plays the position in a prototypical way. There's a lot to like, but the Rangers can get two very good players in the first, albeit in different positions than giving it up for Sanderson.

The other thing with Sanderson is that you are going to have to wait three years before he really looks like a top 4 player. Two first round picks is a very high premium for that player. Now does a player like Sanderson slot in nicely next to a Trouba? Absolutely.

But you have Key who is about to step in. Look there are probably question marks around Key's decision making on the ice, but that's why you have coaches. If they can get him to play a simple game and dominate the aspects of the game instead of trying to be an all-world player, you have a 20 year old player who has the upside that Sanderson can bring.

All depends on who's on the board.

When you start getting to that 13-14 range, fans have to be careful they don't start wish-casting because they prefer a forward.

Some of the forwards in those slots aren't necessarily better prospects than Sanderson now, to say nothing about 2-3 years down the line.

Having said that, I think he's off the board before the Rangers pick.

Assuming we pick at 13, and the top 9 (Byfield, Raymond, Rossi, Holtz, Drysdale, Lundell, Perfetti, Lafreniere, Stutzle) are off the board by our picks, I'd love to get some combination of Gunler/Sanderson/Quinn with our first and Mysak/Jarvis with the TOR/CAR pick

If those 9 are gone (and they most likely will be, plus Askarov), here's my ranking of what's left:

- Gunler
- Zary
- Jarvis
- Amirov
- Sanderson
- Nybeck
- Holloway
- Neighbours

I expect Holloway's name to be the one most frequently listed beside the Rangers in mock drafts leading up the draft.

He's a name I've heard connected to the team, and I know they like him, just not sure if he's necessarily the guy at the top of their list.

Where would you have Mysak? Better numbers in the Czech league than Chytil at the same age, then put up 25 in 22 in the OHL

How much of that is solely based on Holloway playing with a Rangers prospect (Miller)?

For mock drafts? Probably not too much. At least not that I've seen,

Internally, a different matter. They would, in theory, have a good read on him - which can cut both ways for a prospect.

I know they like the wheels, the pursuit, and the North-South game. I think there's the opinion he's a guy who could slide into a number of different roles down the line.

The offensive upside is a bit of a question mark, but he does check off a number of other boxes they've expressed interest in. And if he's the best player on the board at that point, it could be a pretty easy decision for them.

Mysak will be interesting to watch. Knowing he could be a hell of a pick in the 20s, I'm curious to see if there are several teams interesting in him in the teens.

With the risk of sliding into the territory of making lazy comparisons, Chytil was a late riser and went a lot higher than expected. Myšák's transition to the OHL early could give him a huge boost in terms of draft potential

I definitely think it could. At the time of his move, the general consensus was that his performance in the OHL could go a long way toward determining where he went in the draft. Bottom line is that he delivered and at the time of the stoppage, a lot of people felt he resembled the player they thought he could be.

I would love to grab him at 23, but I'm not sure he's on the board there.

Personally, I would be very happy with a Holloway/Mysak first round. I think we'd cover a lot of bases with that result.

I would do somersaults for this. I would also be very happy in getting one of Sanderson or Schnieder.
