Eichel > Jones for trade targets.

Just buck up and pay what Buffalo wants. We have our defensive corps set up for the future with Makar/Byram/Toews. Timmins is showing promise. The veteran in EJ is still kicking around for like 30% of the time. MacNorris is here if Seattle doesn't snag him.

Build the package around Girard and Newhook, and do whatever the **** it takes to make things work. Eichel can play with less skilled hockey players and make his line go, he's such a smart high IQ player that this team would be wise to add. Plus he slows EVERYTHING down on the ice, especially the PP. When's the last time we had a player like that? ****ing bootleg Perron in P.A. Parenteau?

Make it so, Joe. Tell Naz he can play 3C and take his annual playoff suspension or ask for a trade elsewhere. **** that guy.

Tell me you wouldn't love an Avs PP that featured:

------------Landeskog

Eichel------MacKinnon-------Rantanen

-------------Makar

MacKinnon could play the Brayden Point role instead of on the half wall, and since Eichel is a better playmaker he would be perfect there along with having a great shot of his own.
Gotta work with the cap.
Rants + Timmins + Kadri for Eichel.
Girard + Newhook + 1st for Jones and Laine.

In: Jones, Eichel, Laine
Out: Girard, Rantanen, Newhook, Kadri, 1st

Avs were missing EJ big time. Having someone like Jones will give the Avs an option to roll out Toews Makar then Byram Jones against the opposition top 2 lines. That would be an amazing shutdown d core and something that was missing against Vegas

And the Avalanche turn into the Oilers next season.

Saad - Mack - Rantanen
Landeskog - Kadri - Burakovsky
Coleman - Newhook - Donskoi
Nuke - Jost - Perry/Ranta

toews - Makar
Byram - Jones
Oleksiak - timmins

grub
Francouz

If I have to choose between Eichel and Jones I choose Jones. A top 4D of Toews/Makar and Byram/Jones would be fantastic when playoffs comes along. Then get Danault or if you miss out on him then get Reinhart as an assurance against brain-dead Kadri. Or you can even trade Kadri and play Reinhart at 2C until Newhook is ready.

Jones is really the perfect addition to our D core.

How do these numbers work?

How do these numbers work?

Depends what everyone signs for of course.

if we lose graves and sign saad for similar there’s that.
If we trade girard + JT + 1st for Jones that pays for him.

belly and soda contract out = oleksiak

You see where I’m going with it lol. Not sure if it’s possible but thatd be a slick roster. It’s hard to speculate where our money will be though until we see who signs for what. A bridge from makar at 6.5-7 for 3 years would be really helpful. I think looking for someone like Perry on a minimum contract to fill out the fourth line is easy. Need someone like that in the playoffs.

Anyone that thinks Saad is taking under 5 is out to lunch.

Coleman will be looking at a decent raise too that probably hovers around 3.5-4.5.

Brandon Saad for Ryan Graves money?

He'd have already been signed. Saad's number starts at minimum with a 4.5

As PL would put it, you've got to win by having the pieces and building from the back end. Avs clearly have talented D, but we need size and a D or two that can just shut opponents down.

I’m not being precise as I’m not an nhl GM just gave a quick breakdown of what I’d do lol. If saad doesn’t want to sign for under 5 you move on. He wasn’t that important until the playoffs. Would love to have him but paying 5+ with term is crazy talk, he’s regressed since signing his last contract.

He’s the only guy that consistently showed up in the Vegas series and plays the exact kind of game this team needs to learn how to play. I look at his goal in Minnesota where he blatantly cross checked spurgeon for the goal, the avs need that player more than bura.

I agree and I want to keep him but have to be smart with money. Bura and Donskoi both produced more up until the playoffs, if we give him money based solely on the playoffs then better hope he shows up like that every single playoff run or else it’s a bit pricey. He shouldn’t make more than Bura or Donskoi and if he likes this group as much as he says he does then he will be fine with that. 4-4.5m for the saad father please.

So, you’d keep bura and his one goal this playoff run over Saad and his two way play and 7 goals? Got it.

When signing contracts you usually use comparables lol. Bura and Donskoi both out produced him in the regular season. Burakovsky was over PPG last playoffs and has 10 goals in 14 elimination games, if we paid him solely on those stats he’d be way overpaid. I’d obviously prefer saads play but wouldn’t prefer to pay him 5+ when your banking solely on the playoffs, need to be smarter with the cap going forward and if you can get him to sign a comparable contract to the other wingers who’ve produced similar or more than you do it.

Okay, I really hope that’s not this front offices mindset because this team isn’t winning shit with Bura or Donskoi over Saad. Offensive numbers aren’t the only metric when it comes to paying your players.

The front office mindset should be the flat cap for the foreseeable future lol. I agree Donskoi and Bura aren’t what we need to win but you assumed I prefer buras lack of points over saads 7 goals so now the points don’t matter? Make up your mind if you want to force your opinion on me. Bura put up over ppg in the playoffs and got under 5. If saad wants to win then he won’t look for a big payday anyways, what team is giving saad over 5 mil and is contending for a cup?

If Avs get rid of JTC, Graves, lose Donskoi to expansion, I wonder if they can afford Jones and Oleksiak. Trade Girard for Jones, and also resign Saad. I'm too lazy to do the math. Oleksiak only made little over 2 mill and he's a UFA. Would he take little over Graves money I wonder. Graves 3.2 mill, give Oleksiak 4 or something

The Islanders

Yes the flat cap, so that means making roster decisions that reflect that. I would trade Bura, re-sign Saad, give a landeskog extension a long, hard look before giving him more than 6.5 and find a way to bring in a defensively responsible d-man (ala Petro in Vegas).

Also, bura was wildly inconsistent at the time of his signing. Donskoi was streaky and has continued to be. Saad’s two way play is significantly better than both, he is more consistent and can play up and down the lineup. I’d love to see his point totals if paired with Mack and rants for a prolonged period.
