Idk but Sakic has to figure something out. Kadri is a guaranteed suspension in the playoffs and was a huge part of why we didn’t bear Vegas. I’ll be very upset if we waste another year of this window with him as the 2C.What are the Avs going to get back? Better to just roll the dice on him for one year
Burakovsky isn’t going anywhere. He’s a notorious playoff performer. I realize he wasn’t this year but it’s the first time for him to go this way and realize the centre options he got to play with were Jost and Compher. This isn’t a Sam Girard situation where he becomes terrible every year in the playoffs. It’s a one off. If you start trading away players who let you down for the first time you’re going to have to turnover the entire team.
I like Jost as a 3C but only if your 2C is a high end play driver who can score. You need more than one C who can generate offense. If we have a great 2C you can gladly roll Jost as a defensive, energy 3C but if the 2C position is weak I think you need more of a baller as your 3C.
Girard sucked again. That’s 4 years in a row. But he’s still on one of the best contracts in hockey. I wouldn’t trade him just for the sake of trading him but I’m all about it if it’s a trade that absolutely makes them better. I know he’s older but LA are looking for a LHD just like Girard and Anze Kopitar would be everything we need. His contract is a killer though. But if we could get 2-3M retained or send back some more salary along with Girard I would be ok with something like that.
Graves hopefully goes in expansion
Nemeth won’t be back
Grubauer I don’t know. I might be going to fantasy land here but would you guys not offer something substantial like Girard +++ for Jones + Merzlikins?
Those are the question marks. The C position after Mackinnon, the goaltender, Girard and those two towers on the back end who hopefully sort themselves out.
Dim Jim sounds like he's dying to make mistakes in Vancouver. See if he's interested. What are the Avs going to get back? Better to just roll the dice on him for one year
Byram for Jones or Cooter is an overpayment.
I never suggested anything of this nature. I said Jones would be the perfect partner for Byram.Byram for Jones or Cooter is an overpayment.

Big thing is getting rid of Graves and JTC.Exactly although the cap will undoubtedly constrict what the Avs can do.

I don't think they were offering Byram for Jones, seemed more like they thought a Byram-Jones pairing would be a good idea.

Trading Byram would be dumb. Trading Girard in most proposals I’ve seen is dumb too but I definitely would use him in the right situation. Jones + Merzlikins is something in all f***ing over.Sorry.
However I've seen plenty of Byram + proposals made.
Or at least don't shoot into four opponents.yes, time to drop the dead weight. Those spots should go to guys who can hit heavy and make life hell for the other team.
Joe Sakic hit it out of the park during the offseason but failed us during the season. He’ll make up for it, I’m sure of it but going into the deadline with this team in this window with like 10M in cap space and walking away with Nemeth and Soderberg is a bad job by him.
I don’t think Pagnotta was wrong. Friedman said the Avs were in on some big things as the deadline approached. Even Sakic even said in his presser that they were working on some bigger things but they didn’t come to fruition and Sakic never speaks out on things that weren’t. I’m sure he tried but he didn’t execute. So disappointing even after Pagnotta hit us with the "Avs going big game hunting"tweet on deadline day
Girard+ for Jones
Toews-Makar
Byram-Jones
Instant upgrade for playoffs right there
100% this. If we could get Miles Wood out of New Jersey that would be fantastic. Big, fast, decent scorer, and would give us more size and speed in the bottom 6 which is very needed. Outside that we desperately need a 2C. Acquire one and move Kadri or just play him on the 3rd line, but we desperately need more work done down the middle.I really think the team needs to be careful. If they overcorrect and think they lost this simply because they weren't big enough we could end up a weird mess like Calgary.
I think physicality is definitely something that they should look at, but it needs to be within the image of the team.
We didn't lose this series because we were too small, we lost this series because 1/2 of the forwards aren't doing much and 1/2 of the D thought Vegas players were teammates.
Unless Sakic swings a huge trade where Girard is moved for an upgrade at 2C or D, I think he's here to stay. That means the team needs to shore up on their bottom pairing and get some guys that are defensively responsible but can get the puck out of the zone. The traditional "defensive defensemen" just doesn't work on this team, the forwards don't backcheck hard enough and the team is too reliant on the defensemen breaking the puck out.

Half the dmen thought Vegas were teammates because they panic at any sign of physicality... girard played terrified the entire series, Graves is big and slow and thinks he’s an offensive dman and barely hits. Our checking lines are fast and can puck battle but no opposing defense is looking over their shoulder with Jost and company chasing them down.
We honestly don't need them to be "looking over their shoulder". Get the puck from them, make them tired. The Avs showed that they could hang with Vegas, but they also allowed their worst players to standout. We need more consistency from the forward group, and to get rid of the anchors on defense.
The Avs have this weird hesitance to commit to the image that they want. They've been talking about being this quick, mobile team built on puck possession, but continue to play guys that can't do that. I would've preferred to have lost going down swinging with Byram and MacNorris than watch Graves' head down shooting into shinpads and Nemo's unforced turnovers because he's too slow to do anything else.
