I don’t think running it back with Kadri in a contract year would be the worst thing in the world, but if I’m Sakic I’d consider selling the farm for a long term 2C.

A few options off the top of my head:

Elias Lindholm: Consistent point producer and Calgary should be willing to take a rebuilding futures package.

Tomas Hertl: .86 PPG this year and 55% on faceoffs. The Sharks are another team that should be willing to take a rebuilding futures package.

Sidney Crosby: If there’s a chance, you do it. Obviously this wouldn’t be a long term option, but would be an all-in move.

Filip Chytl: If the Rangers look at retooling in the off-season and this guy becomes available, I’d try to target him.

Rantanen for Kane
Mackinnon for Crosby
Makar for Doughty

Let's get that cup!
No wait! What year is it?

Kane- 3 Cups
Crosby- 3 Cups
Doughty- 2 Cups

Mack- 0 cups
Rantanen- 0 cups
Makes- 0 cups

This group needs a player that will not disappear the way the top line has. This team does not know how to win.

I wouldn't be surprised if Crosby is still a #1-2C 6-7 years from now.

I think he helps quite a bit on the offensive end, a lot more competitive and consistent than our top-6 options outside of the 1st line.

But bringing him in likely means Saad and/or Burkie are gone. He's a more consistent player than those two, but I don't think he's outright better. Especially considering playoff Saad. The Avs really need to just buck up and fix center.

Bring in every expert in the hockey world to teach Gabe and Mikko how to play C.

Run Nate, Mikko, Gabe, Danault as our center group.

My ideal situation, if we were to acquire Garland, would be to sell "high" on Bura as he did have a pretty good regular season. Re-sign Saad.

Saad - ??? - Garland

I think that significantly ups the competitiveness of that line. Bura has ridiculous talent, but he gets in his head too often.

I do agree that we need to fix that 2C, but I think Garland in place of Bura would be an upgrade.

Yeah no, I like Garland as a player but that doesn't address a need. They have to go out and get a center, preferably one who is reliable in all three zones. Those guys don't grow on trees so I'm not sure where you go to get them.

To me it is like 'upgrading' your 2020 Mustang GT with a 2021 Mustang GT. Neat, flawed, fun... practically the same result. Plus I don't see a sell high on Burkie... teams see and know who he is at this point.

f*** Kadri. I don't want him anywhere near this team. Selfish f***ing play is now indirectly causing the Avs the series

Reinhart is on the trade block. Go get him. Swap for Kadri+

I think Danault stays in Montreal after a playoff run like this.

If the Sabres are as amenable in taking on bad contracts in any potential Reinhart deal as they were in the O'Reilly deal, then Sakic needs to get Kevyn Adams on the phone right effing now.

Danault likely tests the market, I think he'd be foolish not to as he's set to be the biggest UFA center available. My guess is Edmonton goes BIG on him.

Rather move Burakovsky for him tbh. At least in that scenario we can keep Kadri as insurance for Newhook if he doesn’t work at 2C. If Newhook can fill that role, then see ya Nazem Kadri. A second line of Saad - Newhook - Reinhart would be solid.

Reinhart did okay at center to end the season, but he's far from a proven commodity as a top 6 center level guy too. Spending a lot on Reinhart to pencil him in there would be another bandaid IMO. He's still a good player and worthy to have in a top 6 role because at very least he's a top 6 wing... just similar questions and issues at center.

Simply put, enough with the bandaids. Sign Danault (even if you have to overpay and send Burkie to the moon). Then shop around for another center, hopefully a 2nd line guy. If that happens, you can send Kadri to the moon. Tampa will need to cut an extra 4-6m even after they cut TJ loose. Try to swap around a Gourde/Kadri deal after signing Danault. Run into next season with MacK-Gourde-Danault-Jost down the middle. You're not elite at the 2 spot, but you're elite at the 1/3/4 spots.

If you're trading for Reinhart then the idea is likely to use him at center, which he proved late this season that he can play. Just needed a coach who would trust him in that role.

His underlying numbers were fantastic despite being on Buffalo this year. I would love him as the 2C on this team. I might even be convinced to part with Newhook to get him.

The trade Burakovsky posts are the real overreaction here, the guy was practically the entire avs secondary scoring for most of the season but now that his production dropped as expected cause he has Compher centering him he's no good and we need to trade him.

He's a luxury type piece. I have zero issue having Burki back next year, but if the Avs can get better down the middle and need some extra salary cut... he's one of the prime pieces to put on a plane.
