What is this nonsense?:huh::laugh::huh::laugh:

Rantanen is just a winger and Girard puck moving Norris contender???

Rantanen was our leading scorer and 6th in the NHL.
Our leading goal scorer by a wide margin and 5th in the NHL.
Our leading +/- player and 1st in the NHL.
He is a ppg player through out his career and 1,24ppg playoff player 5th best all time(min 40 games played).

Girard is our 3D.

You don't go with D over Wing especially defence being our strenght. That is crazy talk. You go with best player available.
Rants will be a future hall of famer Girard will be not.

I agree. I'm glad you posted that because I wasn't going to waste my time.

Excellent trolling by BleedWell. Really. Top-notch

Since the topic is out there, without the ridiculous takes there is a discussion to be had about our defensemen and their relative value. Unless the cap goes way up, something is going to have to give sooner or later and we may have to trade one of our three (or 4 if Byram emerges) top pair defensemen.

  • Moving Makar is an obvious non-starter because of his overall ceiling as potentially the best defensemen in the league for years to come.
  • Toews is on an insanely good deal in relation to his play this year, so would require a great return. His age (27) might make him the most likely one to move though. I have no idea how you'd get fair value in return though.
  • Girard is also on an insanely good deal, especially given the contract length. You would need to get great value in return. I scanned the league and the only name that came up as a possibility was Cirelli, who is the same age, fills a potential need, makes slightly less, is on a shorter deal, but will still be RFA at the end.
  • Byram is at the absolute worst age to trade, as he could emerge as soon as next season as a top pair defenseman. There's just no way you can accurately judge his value right now.
In any case, this seems like a question for down the road, and we really shouldn't be trading any of the four.

My guess is that the plan isn’t trade anyone. We’ll see what happens with Byram and how his contract looks in a couple years, but Toews almost 100% walks after his contract I would guess or maybe gets traded going into his last year. But other than that I don’t think they trade anyone that’s currently established.

I am not a stat guy but thank you for pointing this out.

When G was out at the end of the season the Avs were still struggling a bit unlike when G was in earlier. He’s really good.

Not that G isn't an important part of the team, but the Avs were 5-1 with him out at the end of the season.

Four of those games were against a Kings team that was already preparing for the offseason and I think we can agree the only reason they won against Vegas was because Grubauer stole it. The one loss was against San Jose.

They weren’t great defensively with Girard out—Toews and Makar got way overworked in that stretch.

It's pretty clear that with the team as is, there are clearly-defined roles for each player. When Girard is out, unless Timmins is playing well Bednar only trust Makar and Toews to fill in. Maybe that changes once Byram is a regular, but Girard clearly isn't easily replaceable.

Hi MarkT,

Saw you had previously voted Avs in 4 over the Blues. Well done! I respect the call because you’re very careful in articulating your thoughts so it didn’t strike me as an off the cuff prediction. I called Avs on 5 because it’s usually tough to sweep.

That is actually how the majority of Finns follow the NHL.. They only care about the Finnish players.

Probably because the games are on at night so they only read the scores :)

@Richard88

What do you think a trade like
Byram and Kadri for Boldy and O'rourke and 1st
Those aren't bad assets coming our way, basically like Newhook + Timmins + ~20th overall, but I don't see a reason why Colorado need to trade a young stud Dman for that package. Byram should only be moved if its in a deal for someone like Barkov with a good extension in place, anything short of that and I don't see how it is anything less than a downgrade for the Avs.

Yeah Grubi stole that Vegas game, but I wouldn't say they struggled during that stretch without Girard. They only gave up 17 and 18 shots in those Kings games. They were just undermanned, tired, and missing Grubi for part of that stretch, but they still found ways to win those games.

Does anyone care to take a crack at what Kadri's 10 team no trade list looks like?

Is it fair to say Buffalo and Calgary are on it?

  1. Buffalo
  2. Calgary
  3. ?
  4. ?
  5. ?
  6. ?
  7. ?
  8. ?
  9. ?
  10. ?

I'd guess Buffalo might be more of an option as it's close to his beloved Toronto but I think it's safe to assume it would be on the list.

Calgary was revealed to have been on his list a couple of years ago. He said nice things about Calgary once this story was made public.
